  1. Is it too late to take Bud Selig up on that contraction offer?
  2. I look at it differently. I think his mechanics in the minors are probably fine, and it's the MLB staff's insistence on changing them that is screwing him up. This is 2 pitchers now that they've insisted on changing right away (Santiago), both with disastrous results. The obsession with pitching to contact at all costs is frustrating.
  3. Yes, Garver does have to be added to the 40 man this off-season, or be exposed to the Rule V draft.
  4. No! I don't want this coaching staff getting their hands on Gonsalves too. No call up for Gonsalves until we have a new coaching staff.
  5. Well I'd like to see him get a shot here WITHOUT them trying to change his mechanics immediately. Let the kids throw how he threw in the minors.
  6. That depends on what you are looking for. Defensively, the position is upgraded by a very significant margin immediately with Garver or Turner. I'd really like to see what this pitching staff looks like with a defensive catcher.
  7. I would imagine that Pat Dean will slide into the rotation.
  8. Twins need to send Allen and Molitor down to Rochester. Hopefully the advice for Berrios when he gets down there will be, "next time you get up there just do what you've done at every level and don't listen to a word those guys say.
  9. No. This is exactly what awful seasons are for. Let him sink or swim over 50 starts, if there is even a chance that he can be close to what he was last year. There is nothing to lose. Plus, as Brandon noted, there is nobody besides Wheeler who is banging on the door.
  10. I like Dozier. This kind of power up the middle doesn't grow on trees. That said, I agree. This team is absolutely desperate for starting pitching, and I think trading Dozier is the only realistic path to achieving that.
  11. The reason I would be open to keeping him with a new coaching staff is because he could be traded for decent return (something close to what Nunez got) if he pitches to his potential. But if this staff stays, yeah I'd non tender him.
  12. No, that's not what happened at all. The Angels, right or wrong, really wanted to gamble on Alex Meyer, and Santiago is the price they had to pay for it. Unless I missed all the speculation surrounding him up to the deadline, I don't think they were actively shopping him. I don't know why you think I'm making him out to be something I'm not. He was a fairly consistent 4th ( on a bad team) or 5th (on a decent team) starter. That is nothing special, but still had value, unlike the post tinkering Santiago who has no business in a major league stadium.
  13. No, 1.2 is not his upside. He's posted a 2.8 already in his career. 1.2 is probably his expected production, but certainly not his upside. That is a thousand times better than his upside with the so called adjustments the Twins have made to him, which is bagging groceries at Costco.
  14. He has a "bruised thumb". I'm sure it has nothing to do with sparing him the embarrassment of carrying his current delivery on to the field against a bunch of power hitting right handed hitters.
  15. Fangraphs calculates WAR based on xFIP. Santiago has consistently outperformed his FIP. He has had bWAR of 2.8, 1.8, 1.5, and was at 0.8 before coming here this year, which would have put him on pace for about 1.2 or so. That's acceptable from your 5th starter.
  16. Effectively wild has worked for him his entire career. He doesn't need to improve, he just needs to keep doing what he was doing his entire career before we got our hands on him, and he's a serviceable 4th or 5th starter.
  17. I'd rather have Santiago if we also get a new coaching staff that isn't obsessed with pitching to contact.
  18. On Mejia, the team said somewhere a few days back that they'd like to cap him at 150 innings. That is why he won't get a Sept. callup.
  19. Getting in the way of a business deal is an a hole move, but far from robbery.
  20. After reading the article, both guys sound like d bags. Valencia for essentially attempting to commit fraud. Butler for sticking his nose in it. And both guys again for thinking that adults problem solve by acting like obnoxious children.
  21. I'm skeptical of any statement that begins with the disclaimer "true story". Are we to assume that you are lying every time we don't see that disclaimer?
  22. For my generation it was Wild Thing. And not, "wild thing, you make my heart sing", but "she said, I get paid to do the wild thing".
  23. When you charge in on a ball over your head and never recover does that count as a chance? Counting putouts and chances is probably the least effective way of evaluating defense out of all of them.
  24. I don't want guys throwing strikes all the time. This club's obsession with throwing strikes and pitching to contact is by far my biggest gripe. You have to be willing to try to make guys chase when in pitchers counts, which means throwing some balls, and issuing a few walks.
  25. Does anyone know if the minor league players have ever considered forming a union? Although, I'm not sure it would work out, as mlb could care less if the non prospect organizational filler walked out, and most legit prospects (the ones who might actually have some leverage) got decent signing bonuses, and are also probably less inclined to losing development time during a strike.
