  1. I know he's lost a little steam, but I'm still on the JJ Schwarz bandwagon. Good catchers that can hit in the middle of the lineup are rare. In theory, I guess I'd rather have a legit college ace that could move really fast, and we have a ways to go, but right now I'm not seeing one that stands out.
  2. I hope I never become desensitized to comments like this. That is why I stay off social media. Not proportional? The guy got suspended, that's a drop in the bucket compared to actual issues that he's ignorant of. Millions of people would love to have a suspension from a millionaire job be their biggest worry.
  3. I don't really care how many followers he has. Even if an employee said this just to me with nobody else around I'd probably fire them. I'd be horrified to have someone so hateful represent my company. It takes a scary amount of hatred to say stuff like this.
  4. No I'm not on any social media, precisely because of the complete cesspool it can be. The Mariners suspending him does not eliminate any opportunity to discuss it. I guess I don't understand how the Mariners can be criticized for this. If I had an employee saying stuff like this, especially on such a public podium, I'd likely react the same way.
  5. Freedom of speech is protection from the government. Nothing more. Unless the government is prosecuting him for his comments, then it has nothing to do with free speech.
  6. Except Clevenger was making no attempt whatsoever at advancing any kind of discussion. He was just tweeting out insults and dangerous rhetoric. There is a big difference between what you are describing and what Clevenger actually did.
  7. I don't know Willinghammer, these statements are not just bone headed. They are incredibly dangerous. Freedom of speech is protection from government, not from your employer. I think they absolutely made the right call. Just because the Vikings are cowards doesn't mean every team has to follow their precedent, so I don't think that's a fair comparison.
  8. Because if there are none on the open market then the only avenue is trade.
  9. I hope you are right. I just don't see it, especially with the same coaching staff coming back next year. It's fair to expect the young guys to improve, but there is also no guarantee that next year is going to be the year they do it. Santana is very unlikely to pitch this well again next year. Guys his age don't tend to keep out pitching their career lines. So we need even MORE improvement to make up for the expected regression from him. Gibson and Santiago both are who they are at this point. I agree, that means they should be better next year. But, not so good that they really move the needle from awful to league average. Mid to high 4 ERA guys just don't do that much. There is a lot of really good pitching out there right now, which makes the Twins situation even more frustrating. I think the gap between even the ceiling of our pitching staff (nevermind their actual performance), and the above average staffs out there is a lot bigger than some posters want to admit.
  10. 14 to 15 wins is still a lot to make up. And that only gets them to .500. People are saying playoffs. I just don't get it.
  11. We disagree then. To me a few things are despicable enough that they absolutely have to be called out. As vocally and publicly as possible. Yes I do think there is a moral obligation to call out someone who crosses that line, especially if asked about it. Answering something like, "OH Adrian is a great guy, he just made a mistake." Sorry that's not good enough for me. Sorry to go on a tangent about old news, but if I learn a co worker of mine did that to a child, either they are leaving or I am. I'm not working with them. Some things are more important than a job or a paycheck.
  12. Maybe there was one or two minor snippets that "called them out". Nothing like the extent of Sano, both here on TD and from the media and team. And Perkins sure didn't look to me like he'd lost any weight. I generally avoid criticism of body type, that goes for both Perkins and Sano, but I had to quote this post because there is no doubt that there is a double standard here.
  13. I agree that we could compete for a wild card with an average pitching staff. Where I disagree with some is hoe far away we are from even that mediocre bar. This pitching staff isn't just bad. It is embarrassing, pathetic, awful. I don't think 1 offseason can even come close to fixing it. It's just too awful. I think it will take 1 offseason just to close the gap between us and the second worst pitching staff!
  14. Just a few minor tweaks and we are a playoff team next year!
  15. Maybe, but there are some things so despicable that I would hope everyone, no matter what profession you are in, would have the backbone to speak up against. If a guy I work with has an annoying but harmless habit, then yeah, probably best to bite my tongue and not stir the pot. If they are beating preschoolers with a stick though, that's not something you look the other way at.
  16. Sure, but I'm just pointing out how hard it is to make up 23 wins in one offseason. Also, if a highly paid professional needs someone else to inspire them to do their job then those guys need to be outright released right now. This isn't little league.
  17. 1. Sure, it COULD be that. But it also could be that he really won't allow him to be fired. We don't know yet. 2. Of course not one year. But for all we know Pohlad is telling candidates that Anthony is their GM. Yeah I know that's unlikely, but sorry I don't have a lot of faith at this point. And as I've said before, that stance on Molitor is perfectly reasonable in a vacuum. But, I want the new POBO making that call, not the owner.
  18. With those k and bb rates, I'm giving him one more year. Or, at least another partial year, until Burdi, or Reed or someone is ready to come up. If we were are playoff cobtender, I'd probably look to upgrade his spot. But I don't think we are so I'd wait one more year.
  19. The Twins need to find about 23 wins next year...just to get to .500. An all star is worth about 5 wins by himself. Think about that for a second. I mean, miracles do happen occasionally. But you shouldn't plan on them. Every move made should be with the goal of making the playoffs in 2018.
  20. You are likely right. I couldn't believe how many athletes supported Adrian Peterson when he beat a 4 year old bloody with a stick. And, even of those that didn't defend him, I don't recall many, if any, calling him out for it. For whatever reason, it seems, athletes have a different mindset.
  21. You are probably right, but, the owner has already declared that he chooses the manager. Whats to say he won't choose the GM as well?
  22. So basically the same rotation as now, and we just hope it gets better? If you are going to do that, then you might as well just trade Ervin and Dozier, because we already know the results of that rotation.
  23. It's actually 8 position players plus a DH, so that does actually leave you room for a bench bat.
  24. I think we'd all like to have our cake and eat it too. But, have you looked at the free agent crop of starting pitching this offseason? There isn't much there. Also, I'm not sure 2 mid range starters is enough. What is a mid range starter worth, 3 or 4 WAR? Does 6 or 8 more wins do much for us? And this bullpen needs a lot more than 2 swaps, IMO. Sure, you can project some improvement from the young players, but let's be careful there. That is what the Wild were banking on last year, and as they found out those improvements don't always come right away.
  25. He doesn't sound very loveable.
