  1. If he improves to average defensively at SS then we don't need anyone else.
  2. I can understand why someone could disagree with projecting how many runs it is worth. But why would it have to account for quality of pitching? It is simply measuring something that factually happened- a pitch that factually missed the zone being called a strike, and vice versa.
  3. I don't think the Wild will be the 2nd best team in the west by seasons end. The Ducks are just 1 point back, the Sharks and Oilers just 3 back. Since we are just happy with moral victories now, instead of actual wins, I think all 3 of those teams will pass us for sure, with Calgary likely passing us too. We'll have the 5th or 6th most points in the West at seasons end, which means this odd system will actually benefit us, by having home ice in round one.
  4. I guess I'm a Tonkin bobo. K and bb rates stabilize much quicker than HR rates, which can be fluky in small sample sizes. People say that nobody in MLB is fooled by his straight fastball, but if that is the case, how has he kept his k rate up in the majors? I expect a pretty good season from Tonkin.
  5. He lives in Florida. How is he going to be an asset to the community after he retires?
  6. The NFL team will be fine. They only have to sell 8 games per year, and football is extremely popular. I'd be much more worried about the nhl. They have to sell 41 games of hockey in the desert per year, and it's a niche sport. NFL tickets as part of a travel/casino package is appealing to many because nearly everyone in America is at least a casual nfl fan. Can't say the same about hockey. There just aren't many casual hockey fans.
  7. Well he did write a column advocating Danny Santana as the every day short stop this year, so maybe he doesn't know as much about baseball as he once did?
  8. The problem is that average minor leaguers don't make it to the big leagues. I'm not sure that citing his milb league average bat is a compliment.
  9. Good hitters shouldn't be moving runners over, ever. If Buxton is such a crappy hitter that he's being asked to move runners over, then we have bigger problems than his bunting ability.
  10. What if tomorrow is a 12-3 blowout? I'm not a fan of saving guys for a situation that may never arise. Win the game that you are in, worry about tomorrow's game tomorrow.
  11. I'm picturing Seth throwing a chunky soup can at the guy cutting in line at the supermarket- as long as he isn't aiming for his head, of course. Hey kids, violence is the correct response when someone does something that you don't agree with! Great lesson guys.
  12. Haley's ST line doesn't look too bad to me so far. 11 k's and 3 bb's isn't so bad in 10.2 innings. I'm really not concerned about the hits or ERA over such a small sample size. I wasn't a fan of the selection, but I like the k rate so far.
  13. Not only that, but the kid would either have to sit out a year, or commit to 3 years of college.
  14. You can't give a SB the same weight as a walk though. A walk can advance runners, a stolen base cannot. I think we'd have to find out what percentage of time, league wide, a walk advances another runner a base, and adjust accordingly. For example, if it is 20%, then a SB should only be worth .8 total bases.
  15. There is going to be an adjustment period when a guy comes up, no matter how long you leave him in the minors. Leaving Sano in the minors another 2 years wouldn't have changed his mlb performance much, aside from pushing everything back 2 years.
  16. So how many closers in waiting are we up to now? At least 3 by my count. Are we going to rotate them, or give them each one out in the 9th?
  17. You need to be careful bringing too many guys north for their veteran leadership. There are only 25 roster spots, at some point there aren't enough young guys around to mentor.
  18. Trying not to be a reactionary, but I don't see how this team has any shot in the playoffs. Dubnyk had a 24 game stretche where he we elite, but since then he's been one of the worst goalies in the league. Yikes.
  19. Well he does have him on a 1.571 OPS season, so it's not all bad.
  20. For now its down to either Greene or JB for me.
  21. Needing 10 SP's in a season is not the same thing as needing 10 guys to pitch "significant innings before July". You also have Wheeler on the 40 man, he could start a game or two if needed. Also, Vogelsong is pretty much the definition of a scrap heap guy. So your argument is that we should roll with a scrap heap guy to start the season, because otherwise me might need a start or two from a scrap heap guy later?
  22. The post of Mike's that you responded to was asking for ONE young pitcher in the rotation. Not all 3 of those guys. You'd still have 2 of those guys ready at AAA, as well as Haley in the long role, ready to be stretched out if needed.
  23. Minor League depth can be found at any time, if all you are looking for is organizational filler.
  24. The problem with that is that Kuemper is awful, and the Wild would really like that top seed. If you give Dubnyk days off, you are conceding that top spot.
  25. Yes, in any given game anything can happen. But when the results are 3-19, there is a cause somewhere.
