  1. Right, my bad. Gonsalves it would have been then.
  2. I remember the angst in that thread, and I know I wasn't down on him, but was there really a significant number of people on here who wanted him DFA'd? Or was it one or two out of hundreds of posters?
  3. If the grades are not available, then why did you claim he grades poorly under the new grading system? The article you link makes no mention of his grades. Even if you show me one that claims its declined, that doesn't hold much substance without the actual grades. Perhaps it's declined from good to just average? Who knows without the grades. I'll have to agree to disagree on player votes. Sounds like a popularity contest to me more than objective evidence. I also haven't seen FO members or teams or MLB say that he's not doing his job well. Not being good enough to work the WS isn't the same as being terrible. Only 1 crew gets the WS. Anonymous quotes are again, not objective evidence to me. I'm not a fan of thin skinned umps, and I want electronic strike zones yesterday, so I'm not trying to defend this ump or be argumentative. I'm just trying to come into this objectively, and I've yet to see any actual evidence that this ump is so terrible that he needs to leave the game.
  4. I don't believe IP or pitch counts mean much. If a guy is strong and maintaining form, let him pitch. If he's fatigued to the point that it affects his form or mechanics in a way that is inviting injury, that's when you shut him down.
  5. I don't think any of us can know if Dozier is a good leader or not, only people in the locker room do. That goes both ways, for both those arguing he is an isn't a leader.
  6. I believe they knew about the doubleheader before both Slegers and Gonsalves starts. I would have held one of them back for the start.
  7. Yeah, if Escobar was a "fine fielder", he'd be starting somewhere.
  8. I think by blatant he means that they aren't borderline pitches, not that he missed them on purpose. He says at least twice in the article, clearly and explicitly that he doesn't believe he's missing calls on purpose.
  9. Well there is zero gray area when it comes to arguing balls and strikes, it's an automatic ejection. Not sure why anyone would take issue with that. Maybe the rule is bad, but Hernandez doesn't write the rules. Do you have a link to his grades? I find it odd that they left that out of the article if it's available, seems extremely relevant. Players voting him the worst isn't hard data. It's hard to know whether not liking him causes them to be biased in their evaluation of him.
  10. If Sano has publically stated that, then there should be a record of it somewhere. Could you link to it, or tell me where it can be seen? I've heard this claimed before, but even my best google skills haven't been able to uncover even a third hand account of that statement, let alone first hand.
  11. Ok thanks. I thought a player could be outrighted without permission once, but now I see there are constraints at 3 and 5 years of service time.
  12. 1)What antics? Kinsler admits in the article that he doesn't think Hernandez is missing calls on purpose. All umpires miss calls, that alone isn't "antics". 2) Do we have any data that says Hernandez even misses more calls than most? Or are we just taking Kinsler and an unnamed source at their words? Because if he rubs players the wrong way, they could notice the bad calls more than they do with umps they like. Hernandez claims he grades out well, so without data it looks like he said/ she said to me.
  13. If he clears waivers, they no longer need his permission. His choices are play at AAA, or retire, I believe.
  14. I don't understand what he's trying to accomplish. You are not allowed to argue balls and strikes, so he has no standing if he's upset about being tossed. He admits in the article that he doesn't think Hernandez is missing calls on purpose, so what is the point of calling him out so publically like this? Does he expect Hernandez to just quit a really good job because some of the players think he's bad? Yeah right, that's laughable. How distasteful would we find it if an umpire was publically calling out a player for performing poorly? What if an umpire said something like this about an underperforming player, "player x just isn't very good at baseball, he needs to just go away. Just go away today and not play anymore, he is performing so poorly he's bad for baseball."? We'd all think that was unacceptable. Being true or not would have no impact on that. The way to address it is to discuss it privately with mlb. Doing it publically just seems like piling on for no good reason, and that makes it seem possibly personal.
  15. Johan is 100% lock once he's officially retired.
  16. Yeah just tallying up contributors like that also doesn't differentiate between a 3 WAR career, and a 30 WAR career. The Twins failing the last 10 years, IMO, has been lack of quality, not quantity. I agree they've taken more upside the last 2 drafts, so hopefully that will change.
  17. A bit soon to be passing judgement on Watson, don't you think?
  18. You say "only 30", but to me, the decline can come any moment once a ball player is past 30. And if Dozier is a first baseman, he has almost zero room for decline. Right now he's a .760 - .810 range OPS hitter, which already barely plays at 1B. If he declines even a little bit, he's a poor option for that position. Does that make it a "bad" option? I don't know, but its far from the best option, IMO.
  19. Sometimes the right move doesn't work. In fact, in baseball, it often doesn't work. If you pinch hit Sano for Gimenez and he strikes out, that doesn't prove it was the wrong move.
  20. Sure, that's a fair stance. What's not fair is old nurse's stance that it's not even a worthy criticism. That it's so far from a valid critique, that anyone who even brings it up is just a complainer. I guess every thread should just be a bunch of people simultaneously applauding every single move the manager and FO make, I bet that would pull in a ton of traffic to a discussion board.
  21. "The complainers" he says about anyone who dare question a strategic move by the manager. A perfectly legit criticism, mind you, based on Boshers career platoon splits.
  22. Agree 100%. I'm sure in Perkins world, this is a big step and important to HIM. But the world of a multi millionaire pro athlete is miles apart from most people's worlds, so it's not super noteworthy or important to me, other than that I'm happy any time a decent person (which Perkins seems to be) meets their goals.
  23. Seth, do you know, specifically, what they want Moya to work on yet in the minors?
  24. I don't think anyone has a problem with Boshers relieving Busenitz. I think the problem people have is letting him stay in to face the righty, after allowing both lefties to reach. Also, is it possible you misread something nurse? I've read the post you quoted a few times now, and I'm struggling to find where he demanded perfection.
  25. Well sorry you're wrong. That's not what the 1st amendment does. When it comes to private employers, this has been firmly settled. Government workers are more complicated, obviously, but that's not applicable here. That's not to say Kinsler couldn't sue. But, if he did it would be on grounds of breach of contract, not first amendment. People get fired for saying stupid stuff everyday. In all fields, from fast food workers to lawyers. Every single day. A bunch of people in MN just got fired today for going to nazi rallies in their spare time, including 2 from Uptown Grill. Every news source says the firings are 100% legal. Every day all around the country people lose their jobs for posting stupid crap on their personal social media accounts. A few days ago out it was a cop who shared a Facebook meme about catching your daughter dating a black guy.
