  1. Insurance only pays a fraction of the salary, if at all. Some pitchers can't even get insured. The Diamondbacks made a big offer to resign Brandon Webb several years ago, but had to retract the offer when they couldn't find an insurance company that would insure it. Even when they do have insurance, it doesn't kick in until after 3 months, and even after it kicks in it only pays part of the remaining salary. A player that misses the entire season MIGHT get 35% of his salary paid by insurance.
  2. Twins are 10th of 15 teams in runs scored. They are 13th of 15 in earned runs against. They need both, sure, but they need pitching worse.
  3. I would say fortunately.
  4. I'd rather dunk my face in a vat of acid.
  5. So I was pretty critical of Molitor last year. I do have to say I've seen quite a bit of improvement from him this year. That said, I still think he goes. Not because he's not good enough, necessarily. I just fundamentally think that Falvey and Levine ought to be able to pick their own guy.
  6. What would the reason be for that?
  7. If a manager could be worth 8 to 16 wins per season, shouldn't we expect the top managers to make upwards of $50 million per season? Let's say we split the difference and call it 12. What would a 12 WAR/ Year player go for on the open market? I tend to agree that mlb managers are a little under rated, but the fact that none of them make even close to that kind of money leads me to believe it's not by nearly as much as you suggest.
  8. Perkins isn't a guy who can get people out with guile and an 89 mph fastball. I think it's great he is getting to throw in an organized game again before he hangs it up. I'm guessing that was important to him. But I don't think pitching in the majors again is in his cards.
  9. Those numbers are only even remotely close if you are only looking at ERA. Look at the k and bb rates. Miles apart.
  10. I highly doubt that anything Kintzler does in such a small sample size as the playoffs is going to make him THAT much more expensive after the season. Maybe if he's lights out he costs 500k to 1 million more over the life of the deal. That's not scaring anyone away.
  11. Felix Jorge threw 167 innings last year. That would mean he should be able throw up to 216 innings this year. (30% increase) He shouldn't have any innings limits this year.
  12. 1978 http://www.whysanity.net/monos/ahouse.html
  13. There is no reason to add guys just to fill it. If you do that, you unnecessarily risk losing someone if you need an opening later. I get we have guys that we could lose and not matter, but still, until you need to add a guy there is just no reason to risk it.
  14. Those 3 guys (Buxton, Gee and Hildy) are all already on the 40 man roster.
  15. I would guess he'll slot in either right ahead of or right after Rortvedt in the low 20's on mlb.com.
  16. Can't we just send him down for a week next time he blows a save? Or does he not have options?
  17. I think he's under team control for 2 more seasons after this year.
  18. Neither Kepler nor Murphy are prospects. Both are well past 130 plate appearances.
  19. Nobody the Yankees gave up is even close to Gordon, IMO. Gordon is top 35 on midseason mlb list.
  20. Positions don't match up, but I'd say Gonsalves, Jay, and Blankenhorn.
  21. I just don't think the Twins are going to find anyone who is too interested in Dozier.
  22. The cost is prospects.
  23. IMO, ERA is completely meaningless in regards to projecting prospects. Check out Stewart's k and bb rates, they are pretty ugly.
