  1. Errors to games tells me next to nothing about quality of defense. There is so much more to defense than just errors. In fact, the player with more errors is often the better defender, because he makes an error on a ball that the other guy wouldn't have even gotten to. Frazier was 1.5 defensive WAR better than Escobar last year, that is a pretty big difference. Who knows what happens down the road, but right now their defense isn't comparable to each other.
  2. The flexibility could be Gibson's spot. He doesn't have any upside left, he's not young anymore. What he's been is what he is - serviceable back of the rotation arm, but not good enough to ever be locked into a spot.
  3. Frazier is a much better defender than Escobar. I know Escobar can play multiple positions, and that versatility is nice, but he's a well below average defender.
  4. In the "credit where credit is due" department: Trump is supposedly looking into revoking Scientology's tax exempt status. Might be the first thing he's said or done that I agree with.
  5. This is a message board, the whole purpose is literally to speculate. Anyway, the only reason I brought it up in the first place is kinda because of comments like your second paragraph. All of AP's teammates said how great he was, and 3 organizations employed him after he whipped a small child with a tree branch. My whole point wasn't to claim he did anything wrong, just to point out that comments from teammates (or in your case, being signed by other teams) provide zero evidence either way. If anything has been proven over the years, it's that pro sports has this tight fraternity where there is no behavior bad enough to be called out for (by peers), or unemployable for - except not standing for the anthem. John Lackey might be the greatest guy in the world, that was never my point.
  6. Is anyone else a tiny bit concerned by KAT disappearing in big time games? Small sample size, and he still has a ton of progression ahead of him, and I'm a huge KAT fan, but I'm a little concerned by that.
  7. On field performance at all costs is a fair opinion for some. That doesn't make it the only valid opinion. If I'm hiring an employee, what kind of human being they are is part of the equation for me. Like I said, I don't know the full story, but I'd definitely ask about it and consider it before pulling the trigger on a hire, some don't care, fair enough.
  8. So apparently, in a twist of irony, it looks like the company that makes the bump stocks that the LV shooter used 's own insistence that their product doesn't qualify as a firearm (to avoid regulation), is going to potentially allow them to be sued. I think it'll be a successful suit too. There really is no reasonably legitimate use for them aside from the ability to kill multiple people quickly.
  9. This. I have no idea what kind of dude he is. He did divorce his wife in the middle of a battle with breast cancer, but I'm guessing there is more to the story. But, comments from teammates give me absolutely zero information on what kind of person he is. We heard the same thing from Adrian Peterson's teammates- then we found out that he beats small children with tree branches until they bleed.
  10. Chief said it for me. The 2nd amendment isn't an issue, IMO, because I'm not asking to ban all guns. We already limit what arms people can have, I just think there are more that need to be looked at.
  11. I don't think anyone with serious interest is going to walk away from the table over a 3rd round pick.
  12. No, not a roster move, the player would remain on the 25 man. Not equivalent to a suspension, player still gets paid and receives service time.
  13. There is no age limit, most publications use the official MLB rookie cutoff, which is 130 AB's, 50 IP, or 45 days service time (not counting expanded rosters).
  14. This guy shouldn't have been allowed to purchase a guy, except that the Air Force failed to finish the paperwork.
  15. Ok, so maybe they can't force them to DL, the rule could be they are ineligible to pitch for 3 days, and its up to the team and player whether to DL as well or not.
  16. That's easy to fix. If a guy has to come out before facing 2 batters, he has to go to the DL.
  17. Apples to apples, if they both go 7 years, Rosario actually gets 6M more, under Seth's plan. I know Rosario just had a big year, and Kepler a down year, but I think big picture, Kepler still has the higher ceiling. He's a better defender and baserunner, and Rosario's lack of walks will always put a hard cap on his offensive ceiling. Yes, Kepler has to not be awful vs. lefties to hit that ceiling, but given he has hit them in the minors, there is hope he'll figure it out.
  18. Do you have any evidence of this? Quotes, anything whatsoever that would suggest that? The evidence we have, from prior spending, to statements about revenue to payroll philosophy, to direct quotes from the new FO regarding spending suggests the opposite- that it has been, and will continue to operate as a business.
  19. Could be a decent player for a team that actually uses LOOGY's. That wasn't going to happen under Molitor.
  20. Palka just OPS'd .759 as a 25 year old in AAA. He's not an option for the mlb roster at this time or any time soon. Maybe he tried to play hurt, who knows, but regardless of why he struggled, he's going to have to reestablish himself. I'd guess he gets removed from the 40 man this winter.
  21. In what may be the stupidest string of words ever spoken, Energy Secretary Rick Perry is suggesting that burning more fossil fuels will prevent sexual assaults.
  22. He's 29, just put up a 5.6 bWAR season, and signed a contract that is actually not much compared to the mega deals you are going to start seeing next year. He only needs to put up 12 or 13 WAR over the 5 years for the contract to break even. I don't see the downside that you're seeing.
  23. Uninspiring is an understatement. They are awful to the point of being predictive of a guy with almost no chance of being successful in mlb. I'm not sure milb ERA is significant one way or the other.
  24. If it results in a WS ring, yes I'm more than ok with it. Winning a championship is the ONLY thing that defines success, IMO. There isn't much difference between 2nd place and 30th place to me, they both finished the season losers. I get many disagree, that's fine.
