  1. If HS kids eat it up, then why hasn't he been able to recruit a single QB?
  2. We'll agree to disagree then. They cut they lead from 16 to 3 at one point. That's hardly "never in doubt". Obviously they play different, because no goalie in basketball. But a direct comparison was never my point. It was Bama's fault that they were down to 3, not the Gophers. Saying the Gophers should stop playing hard due to Bama's own rule breaking is what I don't understand. Keep piling on until the final whistle, absolutely nothing wrong with that.
  3. Well they nearly blew the lead, so yeah, they should have kept playing. It wasn't their fault that it was 5 on 3, I'm not sure why they should be embarrassed to keep playing? Should a hockey team stop trying when they're on a power play?
  4. Well I'm not sure any game is meaningless, unless it's an exhibition game. They all count in the standings. Regardless, losing focus and taking their foot off the pedal tells me they are still growing, that they haven't quite arrived just yet.
  5. I'm not convinced quite yet. I mean they got outscored while playing 5 vs. 3. That's hard to even believe.
  6. And if it's the difference between getting into the tourney and not, then the season was a failure anyway.
  7. Fleck is in way over his head. Not even trying. Running the ball the entire game despite being down 20+ most of the game. This guy is a joke. Makes Brewster look modest by comparison. This entire program is a joke for falling for this guys shtick.
  8. The refs should refrain from enforcing the rules just to make the Gophers win look better?
  9. Porcello wasn't a front of the rotation starter. The rest were trades for prospects, not 30+ year old players. If you want to trade Santana and/or Dozier for someone with a career ERA in the mid 4's like Porcello when he was traded, sure you could make that happen, but that's not what you said. You said front of the rotation starters.
  10. The Red Sox were a last place team when they traded Lester, a rental, to the A's at the deadline. I'm asking about competing teams trading established front of the rotation starters. Not rentals from last place teams.
  11. Couldn't they just sign a 'veteran presence', then trade prospects for a second baseman? Trading someone who is already a front of the rotation starter doesn't make a team better, it makes them worse.
  12. Not all of those are front of the rotation starters yet. The ones that are, aren't getting traded for Dozier and Santana. Competing teams would rather trade prospects, and you already said not prospects. We should try to acquire front of the rotation starters, but they'll either have to be prospects from a competing team, or established pitchers from a rebuilding teams. Competing teams don't trade starters that are already contributing, it just doesn't happen.
  13. Neither of those teams have more than 5 front of the rotation starters, so they don't have a surplus. And before you said not prospects. If they are not established, then they are either not front of the rotation starters, or they are prospects with front of the rotation potential. Perhaps some examples would be helpful.
  14. Yes, but Ruesse specifically mentions that Sid's positive representation of the local teams weren't always his opinions behind closed doors. In fact, that was specifically his motivation for writing honest opinions. In other words, he's not reporting the objective facts, and he's not even supplying his honest opinion, he's fabricating a positive spin for the local teams. If he were an anonymous guy in a comment section, he'd be considered a "troll". I can't help but respect his longevity, and work ethic, and I hope he lives another 25 years, but the sooner his complete lack of journalistic integrity is retired, the better.
  15. Thrylos specifically said "not prospects". He also said front of the rotation starters. Nobody who is contending is trading guys like that.
  16. It shouldn't matter why the guy didn't get to the ball though. What should matter is if he did or didn't get to it. A player that catches that ball is more valuable than the one who doesn't. And that is also why defensive metrics should be looked at in large sample sizes, to (mostly) even out those variables you mention.
  17. But if they think they are a contender, they are trading prospects, not established top of the rotation starters. Nobody has a surplus of established front of the rotation arms.
  18. If anyone is trading a young top of the rotation starter, it's because they are several years away from competing. Why would a team that is several years away from competing want to trade for players as old as Santana and Dozier?
  19. Oh I don't deny that Sid's style is well received by some. But that doesn't make it right. Newspapers are supposed to be objective. I'm not naive enough to think they always (or even most often) are, just that they should be.
  20. There should be some level of objectivity. If he wants to go work for the team and write, fine. But he doesn't. He works for a newspaper tasked with covering the news. I'm not sure why we give sportswriters a pass that we'd never give to any other type of journalist.
  21. In the case of Sid, that's a good thing. It's one thing to slant one way or another. It's another thing to be a cheerleader for the local teams.
  22. Rogers is a bubble guy, to me. Mediocre at best k and bb numbers, and a FIP over 4 last year.
  23. I think the Vikings have far more talent than the Wolves. The problem might be that they don't have the most talent at the most important position. Towns is very talented, but needs to figure out how to play at least a modicum of defense. Butler is good. Wiggins might be the most overrated player to come through this town, after that its all mediocre at best. The Wild have talent, but the problem is they lack high end talent. They don't have 1 star, let alone the 2 or 3 that legit cup teams have.
  24. Baseball HOF has a character clause. I would suspect that has at least a little to do with Gooden not being in.
