  1. Except they didn't admit any such thing with their words or actions. Making a different decision later, when the circumstances have changed, is nowhere near automatically admitting that your earlier action was a blunder. Calling the flop, then folding the turn - with new information and circumstances, doesn't mean your flop call was a blunder. It could mean that, or it could mean that you made the right decision both times under the circumstances. We have no idea how the FO feels about their deadline decision. Saying you think it was a blunder is a fair take. Insisting on that opinion being a fact, and insisting on putting words in the FO's mouth isn't.
  2. That's still way too small of a sample size. You need to look at all FA's, not just 3 year guys. Also need to look at multiple years. I also don't know why you are looking at previous to contract WAR. What matters is price per WAR during their contract. And no team is comprised of nothing but FA's. Guys under team control are much cheaper. That is where you get the value from. Of course $8 million per WAR would not be sustainable for a full 25 man roster. That is why developing talent is so important.
  3. I disagree. I think he'll be a perennial Cy Young candidate, starting with 2018. Easily the best FA talent in quite some time.
  4. Hard working father of two, no criminal record, no weapon, literally executed by an officer in Arizona. Victim was crying, laying face down, begging the cop not to shoot him. Even with the body cam footage, the officer of course was acquitted. I'm done with these cops. They are thugs. The argument that its just a few bad apples goes out the window when they stick by the bad ones and there is no justice, ever. The cops that refuse to root out the thugs are complicit, and just as bad as the one pulling the trigger. Such a disgusting story.
  5. Neither of those things suggest that they thought the deadline moves were a blunder. The Twins playoff chances improved in August. The team playing better than they thought they would doesn't make their deadline moves a blunder. A blunder would be knowing they would play that well, and still selling. I want them making decisions based on what they know and think at the time they make the decision. Not trying to predict that a 20:1 lingshot will come through. There was also a lot of talk about the team being motivated by the decision to sell, so they might not have even made the playoffs if not for the decisions they made.
  6. Maybe they could beat Cleveland, in the sense that any team could beat any other team in a series, if they get lucky. But, should they really be making decisions based on that?
  7. I highly doubt that the FO thinks those moves were a blunder. Do you have a source for that?
  8. I agree 100% with Nick. Not nearly everyone agrees that the deadline moves were a "blunder", jim. I think they were great moves. Yet, you keep stating it as if it were fact.
  9. Yes, eventually production has to match the tools. I'm just not sure it has to be in the first half season. Aside from learning how to be an adult, and a professional, there is the sample size aspect, as well as Pearson being hampered by a shoulder injury.
  10. Maybe I'm cynical, but I don't think it will come back to bite them at all. The Republican base doesn't think that way. A whopping 71% of Republicans polled in Alabama think the allegations are complete lies. 71%! That doesn't even include those who believe the claims, but don't care. Or, those who believe the claims, and care, but will still vote for him anyway. I really don't think there is anything that a Republican candidate could do, that their base won't find away to ignore or justify.
  11. Example three: The psycho in Montana that body slammed a reporter in front of witnesses, days before the election, and still won. These behaviours are an enhancement to Republicans, not a blemish.
  12. Neither has played even a full season of pro ball yet. Tools are much more important than any stat line at this point in their development.
  13. I like it. Catchers are weird, so I won't even try to evaluate him. But, I really have high hopes for this Pearson kid. He seems to have all the tools.
  14. Yeah, I was being sarcastic. State's rights has been a clear hypocrisy from the right for as long as I've been alive.
  15. And that's about what I expect too. I don't consider that legit. That's only 2 wins in the tournament. The goal in sports is to win a title, so when it comes to sports, I consider legit to be shorthand for, legit title contender.
  16. I think it means the M's have a MUCH better system than the Angels. I'd imagine they'll be pretty closely ranked in our system.
  17. Like I said, I probably wouldn't either. But, its not just to lose Hughes contract, you also get Hand, a 2.5 WAR pitcher. And no they can't "absorb" the contract. They have a hard payroll ceiling. You may not like it, but they do. That is $14 million that they literally can't spend elsewhere.
  18. Well it's not Gordon+, it's Gordon-, because he has them taking Hughes contract. I still probably wouldn't do it, but I'd have to think about it. You're basically getting Hand, plus whoever you can sign with Hughes $$.
  19. Marte was voided because of a medical issue, not so they could spend it elsewhere. And, these look like legit prospects to me.
  20. Knoblauch is not in for off field reasons. In fact if I recall, his induction was cancelled at the last minute.
  21. I'm referring to the polls in the states that mattered. If I recall, the election thread here was pretty unanimously saying that Trump wouldn't win, right up until he did. We'll find out soon, and in this case I desperately hope to be wrong.
  22. I guess we have different definitions of what legit means. I consider it to mean a Conference champion and Final Four contender. A legit final four contender doesn't lose to an awful Nebraska team, they blow them out by 20. For the record, I'm fine with that. I never expected them to be that quite yet, just responding to those that insist they are.
