  1. That would be his 2nd best season, by a mile, at age 34. Aside from a steroid guy, has that ever happened? Just not realistic, IMO.
  2. Why do you say that if a team trades for Cole, they are immediately out on Darvish? You can never have too much pitching, and Cole is cost controlled. No reason, in my mind, that a team couldn't try to get both.
  3. While I'll agree that those reports probably need to be substantiated, I disagree that it's "not a big thing at all." If true, this was happening at a workplace, during work hours, and was severe enough that female employees allegedly had to be relocated to other work areas. That's a pretty big deal, IMO.
  4. I think Darvish says no to that. I don't think he'll sign less than 6 years guaranteed, and I can't see him agreeing to a vesting option that only pays $10 million.
  5. Sorry, I wasn't aware that it was just reported in October. That certainly changes my opinion of the handling of it, if true. From the early reporting, I was under the impression that the University knew about both allegations since 2016.
  6. I hope everyone gets the axe. They had this information for almost 2 full seasons, and he still played. I understand not suspending and expelling him without due process, but he doesn't have a "right" to play basketball, he could have been benched. But hey, he won them a lot of games, and that is clearly the most important thing to them.
  7. Very excited to follow Pearson. I predict we'll look back in a few years and be talking about the steal we got.
  8. Many dismiss it, but the poor baserunning is a concern for me. Hopefully the coaching staff can work with him on that this year.
  9. But can you replace them for equal salary as they make now? I believe that's league minimum (roughly) for both. Likely not. This article regards value, not just production.
  10. The Diamondbacks were estimated 19th in revenue the year they signed Grienke to a 6 year deal. And I think mlb payroll budget is generally separate from other operating budgets, so I'm not sure that extra money not spent on payroll would be invested into scouting and analytics.
  11. I'm worried about Keenum's lack of ability throwing the deep ball. It seems like every time a guy has a step and a half on his guy downfield, Keenum underthrows it. The last 3 weeks, it's resulted in some PA calls, but I fear that won't happen against playoff defenses.
  12. Yikes. That might have been the worst punt coverage I've ever seen. They better not find a way to lose this one. (I don't think they will. )
  13. Melville pitched 3 games for the Reds last year.
  14. Did I miss something? Did baseball add a franchise tag? That's the second time I've heard it mentioned regarding Dozier.
  15. That's different. In that case, the murderer would be in jail until trial. You would have prevented future crimes. That's not the case here. Reporting what you've been told here would have zero effect on preventing a future crime.
  16. How would Nick reporting what he was told be able to prevent any future incidents? Do you really think they would have locked Sano away without bail?
  17. Excellent post. These are all examples of issues/behaviors that need to be aggressively addressed.
  18. Regarding the Justine Damond investigation: The lack of progress seems to stem from the lack of cooperation, by both the shooting officer, as well as his partner. I understand there is no way to force the shooting officer to cooperate, as he has a right to not self-incriminate. But, couldn't they give the partner immunity, thereby eliminating any threat of self incrimination? With no threat of self incrimination, they could then compel him to cooperate, couldn't they?
  19. With the language barrier, and potential legal or civil repercussions, it is completely understandable to me that it would be prepared by someone else.
  20. I'm not sure what the legal definition of sexual assault is. But, for practical purposes, if an assault occurred, and the underlying motivation for that assault was sexual in nature, then I'd consider it fair to discuss that as sexual assault. Public opinion is not the same as a court of law, and frankly I'm getting tired of people attempting to transfer legal rights and definitions into workplace and/or public opinion situations. (This is a bit of a side tangent, I'm not accusing you of doing this. ) Freedom of speech, right to due process, burden of proof, etc. Those are rights meant to protect us from government persecution. They rarely extend beyond that.
  21. It's not true. It may be a factor in determining degree, but there is no minimum time needed, with anything below being disqualified from being deemed assault. In fact, physical force isn't even required. Every day people are charged (mainly in domestic assaults) with assault for threatening or implying force to intimidate someone.
  22. She has a right to tell her story. I've never claimed to know if her claim is true. Withholding judgement until more facts come out is a completely fair and understandable position. But, that's not what you are doing. You are actively trying to discredit her story, and interpret Sano's intentions to make any possible actions seem defensible. Those are two very different positions to take.
  23. 1) Trying to kiss someone who doesn't want it, is not assault? If you truly believe that, then the only feeling I can muster up is sadness. 2)"She has her perception", what does that even mean? Are you implying that you are a better judge of Sano's intentions and motivations than her, despite her being there and you not? 3) She stated explicitly that she tried to pull away. What reason do you have to doubt that? Between trying to pull away, resisting his kisses, and screaming, how many more clues does Sano need that she's not interested? 4) I have no idea if it will be a criminal issue, nor have I suggested any level of punishment. Those are separate issues than if what Sano did was wrong. As stated by the accuser, there is zero doubt to me that what he did is wrong, and at this point I have no reason to doubt her accusation. Sano has every reason to deny it, as far as I can tell, she has no reason whatsoever to make it up out of thin air. 5) Are you really going to compare holding another adults wrists, in order to try to get them to kiss you, and pull them into a bathroom, to holding your minor child's wrists in order to prevent them from getting hit by a car? Come on, surely you must realize those two scenarios are not at all relevant to each other.
  24. Some people seem to be suggesting (others outright stating) that there is some minimum time you have to be physically touching someone to qualify as assault.
  25. Did your father in law actually have a cardiac event, who knows, since the pace of events was wrong. Of course, that's absurd to suggest. If I were an investigator (I'm not), I'd frankly be suspicious if a statement regarding a traumatic event from two years ago DIDN'T have any discrepancies or misstatements. Regarding the burden of proof to convict in a criminal trial, of course those discrepancies matter. But they don't suggest the incident never happened at all.
