  1. 15 appearances by a relief pitcher is far too tiny of a sample size to gain any information whatsoever from.
  2. Yeah, that's my point. It's a no brainer guaranteed investment. That should give you pause to wonder why the other side would consider that.
  3. Whether he's ultimately a hall of famer is certainly a fair argument. But, not even receiving enough consideration to stay on the ballot is a joke.
  4. No, he won't. He's still under contract for four more cheap seasons. That is precisely why he will demand a kings ransom in a trade.
  5. Sure, any strategy that calls for automatically selecting a specific position anywhere is flawed. But that doesn't mean you ignore a position early either. And yes, I do consider 3rd round a high draft pick for a center. How many centers went ahead of him? Aside from Kalil, how many offensive lineman has Spielman drafted in the first three rounds? Very few. I'm happy he grabbed one this year, and it sure looks to have paid off.
  6. Injuries aren't purely luck though. There are fluke injuries, sure, but durability is also an attribute, just like other physical attributes in sports. Many of the guys on the O-line the last couple of years had extensive injury histories, and were not surprising at all to see them injured once again.
  7. Just my opinion, but I think any offer that doesn't include Lewis gets a swift "Thanks, but no thanks" hang up.
  8. Actually, drafting Kinley would make it more likely that Bard would have needed to be DFA'd later, because that's one less available 40 man spot. They are 2 different roster moves. They obviously see something with Kinley. They may well be wrong, but that's not my point.
  9. Well yes, it's speculative. I'm giving my opinion. And we'll have to agree to disagree on that being feasible. There is a reason you don't see contending teams trading ace starters to "spread the wealth" so to speak. You only see rebuilding teams doing that, and that's because ace starters are just too important to trade away if you're contending. To me, trading Archer would mean they are building for 4+ years from now. Speculative, yes, but that's the whole point of a message board like this. I certainly respect your differing opinion.
  10. I'd think any Twins offer would start with Lewis, Gonsalves, Romero, and maybe a Rooker or Kiriloff. And if the Twins don't have a package of prospects with zero service time that the Rays like, they'll simply pass. It's not like they'd have a shortage of interested clubs. It just doesn't make sense for them to trade Archer, IMO, for any player whose service time has already started. Archer still has 4 years of team control remaining, so trading him means they are looking further down the road than 4 years.
  11. Except Archer is not a salary dump. Quite to the contrary, his extremely team friendly salary is precisely why he'll cost a haul to land.
  12. Bought Pandemic for the family. It's very fun, and definitely recommend it. But a couple things. First, some of the rules are a little hard to understand the first couple of times you play it. Second, once you beat it, it kind of loses it's luster. But, it's the first time we've played a cooperative board game, and we really enjoyed that aspect of it.
  13. Sano has the same amount of team control left as Archer. If they only want 4 years of team control, why not just keep Archer? I'd guess they'd much rather have Lewis, and his 6 full years of team control- and actually almost 7 if they wait 3 weeks for his first call up.
  14. One of those players has the same number of years of team control as Archer. Two more have only 1 extra year. I would assume if the Rays are trading a guy with 4 years of team control- with a cheap contract to boot, that they will be looking for the full 6 year window in return. Otherwise it doesn't make sense to even trade him.
  15. Well the Twins have a long way to go just to reach passable bullpen. I don't think a super bullpen is in the cards, for 2018 anyway.
  16. I believe the argument is that he was unprotected so they wouldn't have to DFA him later. In other words, the FO thought they were less likely to lose him this way- since it's more restrictive to take a Rule V guy than a DFA. The FO lost that gamble, but that was the theory, I think.
  17. Yeah, the guys anchoring this line are the 2 expensive FA's, and the high draft pick. The other 2 guys have been fine, but not outstanding. This shows the opposite of what Levi seems to be arguing.
  18. What am I missing here? What, even theoretically, would cause a team to choose their own guy? Why wouldn't they just protect him to begin with in that case?
  19. Adjusted average since inception is not the same thing as a GUARANTEED rate over 5 years.
  20. They didn't fire Mauer. Mauer chose to quit coaching so that he could spend time with his family and see his kids grow up.
  21. I don't want to speak for John, but I assume the list is trade chips as buyers, it doesn't include trade chips as sellers. Hence, no Dozier or Santana.
  22. Of course Mauer would probably do that. But, why would the Pohlad's, who I believe made their money in banking, pay 9% interest?
  23. Mauer didn't want to coach anymore. He wants to spend more time with his family.
