  1. Couldn't it just as easily be construed as billionaire owners whining that their employees want more of their billions? It's all relative. People making minimum wage mopping the floor at burger king, driving a 20 year old beater might say the same thing about you "whining" about the price of a vehicle they could never afford.
  2. But if the player doesn't want to resign, they lose them. After spending a high draft pick and years of investment on them, with little chance at any payoff for their investment. No thanks. To steal Craig's sentiment in a different thread, baseball will be fine without me, but I'd no longer be paying attention to it.
  3. Universal FA at age 25: A team spends a top pick on a player, spends 4 or 5 years and many resources developing them, then loses them right when they have a chance to be good?
  4. The problem I see with this, is that if the bulk of the players salary is determined by performance, only the desirable cities will attract top free agents; New York, Boston, DC, Miami, LA, San Francisco, etc. What is Kansas City going to be able to offer to put them over any of those teams, if they can't offer more money?
  5. And teams that draft and develop players should be the ones to reap the benefits. I don't want to see small and mid market teams being nothing more than farm systems. I'm all for players making more money. Make all 6 years ARB years then. I don't want to see the Twins draft and develop Royce Lewis, only to watch him go to the Yankees at age 25.
  6. Seth, I get the feeling you don't like the Patriots. Two years in a row you've picked against them now. This isn't the Vikings. This isn't Mike Zimmer. And this isn't Case Keenum. We made the Eagles look a lot better than they are. Pats:28 Eagles:13
  7. Yes, the AAV are averaged. But, you're still only on the hook for the prorated portion of that seasons adjusted AAV. In your example, the original team would be on the hook for roughly 10m, and the new team 5m, for that season.
  8. I'm not sure anyone needs a $10 million cushion for deadline moves. You pay prorated, so basically 1/3 of their annual salary. How often do teams trade for guys making a combined $30 million+ at the deadline?
  9. Colts plucked WR Rodney Adams off the practice squad.
  10. How many times has an impact player been traded in May?
  11. I wouldn't expect a full season output to match what those 3 did in the second half, no. Except maybe Buxton, maybe. I also don't expect Gibson to match his second half performance either.
  12. Same here. I want Darvish here, and I think they have a rare chance to get it done. But I'm not going 7 years.
  13. Mike, is there a theoretical percentage of wealth that could shift to the richest fraction of a percent before you'd agree that it's not healthy for our economy? I think all but the most extreme of the left agree that people who take risks to supply jobs deserve to make a profit when they are successful. But, I'd also hope that all but the most extreme of the right agree that at some point enough is enough. Not to punish success, but to ensure a sustainable economy, and a robust middle class.
  14. Interestingly, the NFL is already the only other sports league that is classified as entertainment and not sport, along with WWE. I'm not saying they do, but this classification would legally allow them to fix/script games, without breaking anti trust laws. I have zero evidence that is taking place, but I do find it interesting.
  15. Gibson is not a free agent after this year. He has one year of team control remaining.
  16. What was their first half pythag?
  17. True about replays. But, unlike replays, robot umps wouldn't add any delays to the game.
  18. Unlike the umpires, whose calls are universally agreed to be correct? If your argument is that you can't do it if it's not going to be 100% accurate, then it reminds me a bit of the automated car opponents who say, "there would still be some accidents, so no way", even if millions of accidents could be prevented.
  19. Well of the major publications that have released their prospect rankings, only BA has Rooker ahead of Gordon. And even there it's by 1 spot (92/93). So, I don't think it's accurate at all to say that Rooker needs to be ahead of Gordon.
  20. I'm guessing Cobb and Lynn are going to wait for Darvish to set the market before they sign.
  21. Didn't the White Sox cash in a WS title? I'd love to have to recover from that.
  22. If Lewis can't stick at SS, he'd move to the OF, not third base. Perhaps his best tool is wasted at third base.
  23. Part 1, we'll just never agree, so might as well both move on. Any GM using intuition to make signings won't have a job for long, IMO. Part 2, I'm responding to a specific thing you said, not a general, "could they improve with more money. " You said, save 6 million from Darvish to Cobb, add it to Mauer's money coming off the books, and sign a 30 million dollar guy next year. Who?
  24. I understand that you, personally, would rather sign Lynn. What I'm saying is that I don't think the industry agrees that they are roughly equal. I don't believe for a second that teams pay more for a name. These guys jobs are on the line every year, and there are only 30 of them. They will pay more for who they think will perform better. Who are they going to spend 30 million on next year? Machado and Harper are not options here. Anyone else is going to be just as old as Darvish is.
