  1. To me WAR is just made up baseball statistical navel gazing. I guess I'm too old for the new fangled stats. I'd just as soon consult a leprechaun in an Irish meadow. Same validity.
  2. All I know is he's 27 years old in the prime of his career and is hitting .214. That being said, I hope he blossoms into Babe Ruth.
  3. I agree with you on Wallner and this front office. Having said that, and realizing he's a local boy, he's struggled to hit his weight this year or even stay above the Mendoza line at times. Maybe he gets forced out by some of the young talent sooner rather than later.
  4. I wonder if Wallner has ever played any 1B. He certainly fits the physical profile better. Probably not or they'd have tried it by now.
  5. Took Buxton a long time to get a handle on that too.
  6. Gasper is the DH today. The horror. The hhhhorror.
  7. Lewis and Lee are far from locks to be part of the future. IMO, Lewis swings too hard and Lee swings too soft. Maybe they could get together and meld their swings into something that works at the Major League level, because hitting in the .240's isn't going to cut it.
  8. I still can't help but root for him though. Maybe he's rusty from being out so long. He could be part of a new Twins theme for the last 2 months : bite, scratch, claw, bunt, and steal.
  9. I love the energy that Keaschall and Martin bring to the line up. Haven't seen much of that all year. Even though they were getting caught stealing - the aggressiveness is great. Make the other team make plays. When Buxton gets back this could actually be fun. It's a lot to put on a 22 year old, but I really think if Keaschall hadn't gotten hurt, they'd still be fighting for a playoff spot. He makes everybody better.
  10. Roden has as many holes in his swing as Wallner and Larnach. Swiss cheese. Hope the pitcher works out.
  11. Buxton reminds me of the guy on the plague cart in the Monty Python movie: "I'm not dead yet".
  12. It would be interesting to know exactly where the $400 million+ franchise debt came from under the Pohlads. Is it because the financing of fielding a Major League team in Minnesota truly doesn't work? Or is it connected somehow to the Pohlads' other business interests?
  13. Miranda seemed to be really coming on as a Twins hitter. He had that stretch of 12 hits in a row. But then he was hit in the helmet by a pitch. He's never been the same.
  14. The Twins need to do some soul searching as to who's to blame for this win.
  15. Coulombe said Matthews is going to be a star. So he has that going for him, which is nice.
  16. Hawkins is excellent on the telecasts and makes a good team with Provus. Wish he was on every game.
  17. Reusse has a column today advocating for promising young players to be called up earlier - which I agree with. Granted, the Major Leagues can be a shock to the system for a young player. Even Mickey Mantle was sent back to the minors for a time after his initial call up. But sometimes it works. Blyleven was spinning curveballs at ML hitters when he was 19 yrs old. Bring them up!
  18. Martin on the bench. Lesson: if you do something good you will be punished - or maybe even jailed.
  19. After the 1997 season, the Marlins traded away 23 players. But I wasn't referring to the exact number so much as the concept of a fire sale.
  20. What Falvey did is certainly not unprecedented in baseball. It's the reality of the business now. But I think it's damaging - to the reputation of the franchise, with the players, and most importantly with the fans. Lots of empty seats in some of the Major League stadiums. And lots of obsolete Twins Correa jerseys.
  21. I wish Baldelli would emulate Tom Kelly. If I remember correctly, Kelly used to make every player lay down a few bunts at the end of every batting practice session. If a guy like Gasper wasn't ready to bunt at any time, Kelly would have been hospitalized for a conniption.
  22. The announcer defended Gasper not bunting by saying he "hadn't done it all year" or some such nonsense - like he was being asked to split the atom. Gasper plays baseball for a living, but apparently doesn't know how to bunt. The Twins have to find players who know how to play baseball.
  23. Falvey's in the wrong job. He's got the smarmy patter of a marketing dweeb. He should get out of operations.
  24. I know there's no crying in baseball, but can you forfeit?
