Inside the Twins’ Catching Pipeline
LambchoP replied to Cory Moen's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I still say the catcher we got in the rule 5 draft, Susac?, would have been a legit backup catcher. Had great AAA numbers for OAK. Much better than the automatic out that is Jackson. Can anyone explain why we grabbed Susac who would've helped this year, just to immediately dump him for a teenage catcher years and years from contributing? This team seemingly has no idea what they are doing, it really is sad and frustrating as a fan... -
Zebby's got good stuff. Actually really gook K/BB numbers, he just gives up too much contact. If they can tweak his pitch mix and get a bit better at location I think he can be a solid mid rotation starter for a lot of years. I think they should trade Over and Larnach for bullpen help. Festa should make the transition to reliever along with Raya and maybe Prelipp. But, relying on three rookies and a couple mid level guys like Sands, Topa and the new guy is going to be a disaster. Any lead we might be able to get will be given right back. Every day I see more and more relievers signed and yet the Twins are sitting on their hands. Do they have a plan? If they do it's "wait until spring training until everyone has signed who they want. See who is left and then sign them for dirt cheap while they are desperate for a contract."

What this team needs is a legitimate, long term first baseman. One who can hit, hit for power and play respectable defense. As we don't have any potential solutions in the minors, we're going to have to trade for one eventually. This year to year one year signings of has been is getting kind of old....

Should the Twins Deal from Their Rotation Depth?
LambchoP replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would trade one of our redundant LH corner outfielders before I started trading away pitching. Of course most of those guys don't have much in the way of trade value other than Larnach, who should be traded for bullpen help -
Just get the best player available and hope our coaches don't ruin him, or lose huge amounts of time to injuries like all of our other top prospects...

Should the Twins Extend one of Their Key Young Players?
LambchoP replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd like to see how our young guys do over an extended period of time this year before jumping the gun on extensions. The team also needs a clear plan and direction in place before any big decisions are made.- 25 replies

Seems a bit overly optimistic to me. No bullpen, some questions about the infield and corner OF. Seems like we're really hoping for our young prospects to break out and be big league contributes right away ...

Maybe we'll get lucky and Fedko's AAA breakout was for real. What if he has such a huge spring training that they are forced to give him a platoon role at first with Clemens, eventually taking over full-time. Imagine if he put up similar numbers in the bigs to what he did in St Paul last year? Finally finding a RH 1b who can hit 30 HR and steal 30 bases......A guy can dream can't he? More likely we sign an aging, defensively limited has been for cheap and he's released at the deadline.....

I don't get why they would do a major teardown at the 25 deadline, only to change their minds in the off-season and say no more rebuild, we're going to compete. Not a smart baseball move. I think ownership just realized that if they traded any more vets, Buxton would've jumped ship, signaling that this team was dead, and they'd sell no tickets in '26, only adding to the massive debt the Pohlads are already in.

What would it take to get Coby Mayo? He's young with years of control. Would it be too big of a gamble though? The kids hit well and hit for power in every stop of the minor leagues but hasn't shown anything in the majors. We don't need another Gasper.....

Please no. Sano is the opposite of what the team at least says it's trying to do. Go younger, faster, more athletic defensive minded players. Sano is a big slow, strikeout prone guy who would be a horrible first baseman. There has got to be better options out there on the trade market or even waiver wire....I do NOT believe Clemens is the answer either. I don't think the Twins are trying to compete this year, but if they did, they would have to sign a starting caliber first baseman. Ryan O'hearn wouldn't be a bad move. Maybe get Goldschmidt on a cheap one year deal....

Projecting the 2029 Minnesota Twins Lineup
LambchoP replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins coaches will need to learn how to teach young players with success in the minors how to translate that success into big league success. We haven't been able to do this for years, aside from a few select exceptions.- 13 replies

Twins need first base depth, I'd take a chance on Blaze or the Yankees guy. Gasper, Kreidler, Mccusker, Julien....any of these guys are easy DFA candidates to open up a couple roster spots. We're going to need a couple openings at least for our bullpen.

Julien, Outman and Gasper should not be anywhere near our 26 or 40 man roster. All three would probably pass through waivers. Larnach has a decent bat, I would think we should be able to get a little something of value for him in a trade, preferably a relief pitcher...

Twins Add Catching Depth with Early Offseason Swap
LambchoP replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't like it. Backup catcher with a career .150 BA and a 37 percent K rate? And we're going to pay him 1.8 million?! I'd rather they let Perada take a chance. Plus we had to give up Eeles who could have been a valuable backup or utility guy. With our lack of depth at SS we probably shouldn't have gotten rid of Eeles. Not a good trade imo.... -
With only one more year of control than Jeffers, I don't see how this helps us. Tait and Jiminez are years away. If we are aquiring a catcher it needs to be someone with years of control who can legitimately hold down the starting catcher role until these kids are ready...

I doubt they traded away half the team last year just to come back and spend big and go for it this year. My guess is, they trim some fat and salary off the roster and give a lot of our prospects their debuts. Ownership will use this year to see where we're at with our young guys and decide what to do next year.
-
When almost all of our pitchers end up with more walks than strikeouts, it's hard to be excited about any of them. Winokur has potential but hope he can put it together this year. I'm more intrigued by Mendez. Seems like he could have a good bat, if he can play a decent first base he may have a clear shot at a roster spot. All he has to do is outplay Clemens at this point

Maybe Fedko has a monster spring and wins the platoon job at first base. Then he just keeps on hitting and hitting for power, eventually becoming an above average everyday first baseman. Very wishful thinking I know lol.... Would make a lot more sense to make a trade for a legit first baseman, but I don't see much happening with this roster, other than maybe more salary dumps :(
