  1. I still have PTSD from Moran and Headrick so if the Twins are able to add a more than competent lefty to the bullpen, I'm happy - regardless of any hidden agendas or vendettas.
  2. Gordon was well liked (by all accounts) by his teammates but he was also in a logjam and probably doesn't make the team out of spring training. Trading him makes sense especially when the return provides a safe guard against father time catching up to Thielbar and/or Funderburk regressing.
  3. Not seeing the correlation between 2012 and 2024. In 2012, they had a complete re-set in terms of personnel. Thus far, they've tweaked the edges and added to the bullpen without doing anything to the core. In 2012, they needed the additions to have big seasons in order for there to be a competitive team. In 2024, the season hinges on the same guys as it did last year while hoping that the bullpen is more up to the task - and if its not, there's enough in the pipeline so that they can get the right mix of arms.
  4. Issue I had with Sonny is that he was prone to nuclear meltdowns on the mound. First time through an order, he could absolutely dominate. But, after that - a tendency to start nibbling, laboring on the mound with incessant gum chewing, spinning the ball and taking his cap on and off. A lot of the accolades that he received were based on folks looking at his stats rather than actually watching him pitch. There's a reason why he went so long between wins and it wasn't necessarily a lack of run support, it was more that he rarely put teams away and let his fate in the bullpen's hands.
  5. There's no collusion regarding Bellinger. Teams are just reluctant to give him big money after what he showed in 2020, 2021, and 2022. He was almost unplayable in 2021 and 2022. Was least year an outlier and will revert back to prior years after he gets his payday? It is a reasonable question to ask.
  6. I'd be mildly surprised if Miranda is on the 26 man roster on opening day. I think more likely he's on IL or doing some kind of extended spring training. The moves to make, IMHO, are Tommy Pham and Michael Lorenzen. The move aren't necessarily the ones I want but they're the ones I can see the Twins making.
  7. Oh, for sure. It's a lottery ticket that likely winds up in the trash...
  8. Kepler is a lottery ticket if a selling team trades for him. Hope he blows up in the first half and you can sell incredibly high at the deadline.
  9. Balazovic goes to show just how quickly a player can go from prospect to an afterthought. If you would've told me in 2021 that he would be DFA'ed before spring training 2024, I would never have believed it.
  10. Might the front office have a trick up their sleeve? It seems like the off-season, at least for the Twins, started with the Polanco trade and the recently announced TV deal. The 40 man roster has a lot of redundancy. I wouldn't be shocked if we see a trade for a starting pitcher with Descalfani shifted into a long relief role.
  11. Wouldn't shock me. With Alcala, the potential is tantalizing. Just needs to stay healthy.
  12. As for Jackson... Duran Jax Stewart Thielbar Topa Funderburk Varland (or Descalfani) To me, those are locks. I imagine Funderburk is a lock because they need another lefty. That leaves Staumont, Balazovic, Sands, Winder, Alcala and Jackson battling the last spot.
  13. I'd be shocked if Farmer is traded unless something happens in ST and the Twins are convinced that Lee is ready to be on the opening day roster and that Gordon can adequately replace Farmer. Both of those things haven to happen, IYAM, and even if Lee is MLB ready, the Twins likely keep in him in the minors to ensure every day AB's. So, back to my first thought. I'm shocked if Farmer is dealt...
  14. I wasn't in love with the idea of trading for Burnes. If he was under contract for 2+ more seasons, it would've made more sense but the Twins have shown they want pitchers that are under team control for multiple years. Being that they aren't go to sign big name pitchers, their plan of attack makes sense to me.
  15. I might be wrong on this, and it might just be because I have a healthy obsession with the Twins and don't pay attention to other teams, but it seems like they have a lot of confidence in their ability to fix pitchers - either mechanics, pitch selection, etc. - more than other teams do. If there's something holding Desclafini back and if the Twins can unlock it, then I'm not sleeping on him as a 5th starter.
  16. Yeah, I'm with you on the rotation. There's enough position players in the pipeline. Pitching, not as much.
  17. The biggest problem or concern I have right now is the rotation. Lopez, stud. No worries there. Ryan, if we're getting the pitcher we saw in the first of 2023, then he too is a stud. But after that... I like Paddack but I'm guessing he's going to be on an innings limit. I like Ober but not sure he's a guy that is going to pitch more than 150 innings. And Descalfini is a gigantic ?. Ideally, they somehow find a pitcher to slot in as a #2 or #3 and they can shift Descalfini into a long relief role, which IIRC, is what Seattle envisioned when they traded for him. With that said, the ideal scenario isn't the realistic one and I won't knock the front office if they go into the season with Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Paddack, and Descalfini. Finding a #2 starter on the trade market, when you have budgetary constraints and when most teams will want a prize prospect (Lee), isn't easy to do.
  18. Pham's one of those guys that seems to have big moments in the post-season. Could be a faulty presumption on my part, but I recall him coming up with some clutch hits and plays. The Twins need more of that next to Correa and Lewis.
  19. Remember that morning very well. Had the breaking news alert on my phone when I woke up. Had to stare at it for a minute or two because I didn't trust my eyes.
  20. I applaud what MAT and Solano brought to the table last season - but...admittedly, if that's what Falvey was talking about when he was commenting on reinvesting the savings from the Polanco trade - meh.
  21. Law of averages are going to kick in for Buxton eventually, right?
  22. What's the deal with Hicks? The production hasn't been there consistently, and that happens to young players that don't always pan out. But he seemed to wear out his welcome with the Yankees for reasons other than his lack of production at the plate. Are there attitude problems there?
  23. This. Not sure what kind of return people were expecting. 2 MLB pitchers and a top-100 prospect. Not too shabby. Ideally, Descalfani can give them similar production to what they got from Maeda last year and it allows them to shift Varland to a high-level bullpen role - I think he'd do very well in that spot. As for Topa, health is the big thing but he was good for Seattle last season and got better down the stretch.
  24. So, Falvey had some comments about reallocating the money that they saved by trading Polanco. I don't necessarily but a lot of stock into what he says because he has been very good at saying a ton of words but at the same time, saying nothing at all. To go along with your post though, yeah, they might be able to pull off a surprise. Wouldn't sleep on a Boras client signing a deal similar to what Correa signed in 2022. We shall see soon enough.
  25. Cardinals contend in the NL Central. Maybe last year was an outlier? Just seems like a weird waste of resources to sign two guys that would be best served eating innings on a bad team - unless that's the kind of club the Cardinals have in 2024...
