  1. Alcala has upside & completed his rehab assignment reported Oct. 1st. At that time they released Celestino to make room for Acala. It appears that decision was made so that Alcala could remain on the roster going forward. I think that the Twins will give him a chance to produce next season before giving up on him. Nick Gordon provides a lot of bang for the buck. I'd hate to think that he's washed up & would favor keeping him if there's enough room since he's a very athletic player that can handle multiple positions. He could replace Max in right field if the Twins decide to buy out his $10 mil contract or they could platoon him at 1B. He;s more versatile than Miranda.
  2. The Twins rewarded him with a nice extension contract which should help to provide him with enough incentive to remain as sharp & competitive as possible. It's always nice to see a pitcher get the run support they need to win games because the stats don't mean as much as the wins. He just needs to keep finding ways to win by beating the opposing hitters at the most crucial moments in a game. If he can tap his clutch gene, especially in the post-season that's all that the fans can ask for. It's the big moments that fans remember the most.
  3. Yes it did. what I originally posted was that the Severino might be another Rosario because Severino can olay 1B & has powr. You're making a mountain out of a molehill. My comment had to do with Severino playing 1B, not Rosario. I said the Twins needed power & a HR threat that Severino can supply, especially considering that we need to replace Gallo's HR's. Rosario supplied power & RBI's during his prime with the Twins as I referenced due to criticism just for mentioning Rosario's name.
  4. I guess you didn't read that the comment referred to Rosario when he was with the Twins. His RBI's carried the team during the Bomba season. You can deny it but can't ever take that away from him just because you don't like him. It was just an analogy, get over it.
  5. In Aug,, 2022 the Twins traded #7 prospect Spencer Steer plus 2 other prospects to the Reds for Tyler Mahle. This past season Steer played 156 games at 1B for the Reds hitting 23 HR's, 86 RBI's, .271 BA, .356 OBP.. Too bad the Twins didn't benefit much from that trade at all. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/steersp01.shtml
  6. Farmer deserves more PT & not re-signing Solano could lead to needing him to play more making him valuable to the Twins. Lewis seems to be somewhat injury prone & until he proves to be more durable it's a good idea to keep Farmer. I suppose if the trade were good enough then Farmer is as expendable as anyone. But if the Twins end up buying out Polanco then Farmer should be kept on the roster. Farmer could also be platooned at 1B.
  7. I'm refering to the Rosario in his prime when he was an RBI machine. In 2017 - 19 he hit 27, 24, & 32 HR's & had 77, 78 & 109 RBI's. IMO you're guilty of having a selective memory. Severino may be able to provide the type of power that Gallo promised,. Having a legit HR threat in the batting order could force pitchers to pitch to our hitters in front of him or put him on base. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rosared01.shtml
  8. I'm all in on Severino. 3B's can make an easy transition to 1B. We need the power & to save money . Sometimes there's nothing better than a hungry kid to make a splash in the bigs by wanting to prove himself. When doors close on the Twins then another one opens. We'll still have Farmer & other options. This kid may be another Rosario.
  9. If push come to shove I'm not concerned about losing Balazavic. The Twins have better pitchers to protect & he won't take the Twins to the promised land. I would like to see Gordon remain on the roster because he has some trade value as a utility player.
  10. I don't believe you & I don't believe that the Twins would have signed Buck if he had a degenerative knee condition. Not at his age & not a degenerative condition that would end his career. They have doctors too & woudn't throw money away. Like Judge Judy would always say, if it doesn't make sense then it must not be true. I watched him slide into 2nd base when he popped his knee. It was an unfortunate injury. Not some crazy conspiracy theory that he was somehow in cohoots with his agent. It sounds like fake news & disinformation. Rehab takes time & there aren't any shortcuts. Time will tell what Buck's future holds.
  11. No one can predict the future, not the doctors or Buxton. However I think that anything is possible including Buxton playing a complete injury free season & performing as a superstar. The past doesn't matter, only the future matters. It could go either way but many folks just seem to prefer being negative. If he makes it back then he's the type of player that can change the outcome of a season. Any player can do that, but Buxton has more tools than most players. So I prefer giving him the benefit of the doubt that he can turn it around & play better than ever. I hope that what's happening is that he's taking 1 step backward in order to take 2 steps forward. It doesn't cost fans anything to be optimistic. The Twins also badly need some hitters & I'd prefer some younger talent rather than bringing back Taylor. Nothing against Taylor but the Twins have younger talent waiting for an opportunity. If we brought back Taylor then we'd need to get rid of someone else. The Twins have too many non-hitters to advance to the later playoff rounds. Just because a player can hit against lower tier teams doesn't mean that they can hit against the elite teams. It's time to upgrade the lineup with or without Buxton.
  12. I can't conceive of Buxton playing 1B. Not when both Gordon & Farmer are already infielders with better batting averages & can be platooned there. Even Castro has a lot of infield experience. I would also be concerned about Buck being put at risk by having any sort of collision at 1B or by over-stretching his legs. He's a diver but not a good stretcher or he could end up needing to be carted off the field on a stretcher. I'd rather be optimistic that he'll benefit from the surgery. He's geting paid to play the OF & anything less may end up being another failed experiment. No use trying to put a square peg into a round hole. I think that Buxton will either make it back to the OF or else he may need to be retired. If he can't run in the outfield then he won't be able to run the bases or hit the ball like a pro either. .
  13. A lot of names are being mentioned by I'm surprised no one mentioned Gordon. He should get some consideration since he is an inflieder. And there's also Farmer who could use more PT. I guess what happens to Polanco will also affect who is selected to play 1B. Gordon & Farmer would be my 1st 2 candidates before Julian, Mranda & any OF's.
  14. Sonny may have had his worst start of the year against the Astros. To be worth $25 mil he needed to have his best start of the year & manhandle the Astros. But he only lasted 4 innings. Joe Ryan wasn't even given a chance to pitch as bad. Sonny's game against the Astros was the most important game of his career & he didn't pass the test. He had a great season but a pitcher needs to win the big playoff games to get rewarded with an elite conttract.
  15. You may be right or you may be wrong. My point is that the Twins don't need to overpay him. For instance, 35 year old Kyle Gibson earned $10 mil, pitched 192 innings, made 33 starts, & went 15-9 with an ERA of 4.73. I doubt that Sonny will get offered $20 for multiple years. A QO is not easy for other teams to match for each of multiple years. He has a track record that will be closely analyzed. We have no idea what he will settle for or how long he wants to pitch. The Twins are in control & wary about longer term contracts. They've been burned by a lot of pitchers contracts. Anything beyond a QO is a craps shoot. Sonny kaputs at around 80-90 pitches, & sometimes gets taken out with less.
  16. I think that Gray will be happy to accept a QO. If he can replicate his performance next year then he'll have made a fine payday with the chance for more. The Twins will be bargaining from a position of strength. For a team to lose at least their 3rd highest draft pick plus $500K - $1 mil in International bonus pool money is a powerful incentive for other teams to not sign him. A luxery tax team would lose 2 draft picks, their 2nd & 5th highest. Sonny would be paid $20 mil just for agreeing to return to the Twins for 1 year & they won't be forced to offer any additional huge amount unless they really want to. https://www.mlb.com/news/2022-23-qualifying-offer-candidates-and-decisions
  17. Nothing less than a qualifying offer will reward him for his fine year. After all he was able to beat the Yankees. The Twins should offer him $45 - $50 mil for 3 years or we'll take the draft pick. I love Sonny's pitching but he doesn't get run support & sometimes needs favorable calls to not get into jams. I'm still tinkering with the idea of Duran becoming a starter. Then maybe we can go to the big dance!
  18. I don't want Lewis to be put at risk because Julian has proven to be too good of a hitter. Farmer or Castro can play 3B & at most Lewis can ride the bench as a PH. It's better to rest him for the next round I don't want to see the Twins be pound foolish when Juian, Farmer & Castro are fine players & healthy. I think the playoff loss streak is making fans go goo-goo with hopes that somehow Lewis will win the series. The reality is that he can cause the Twins to lose the series if he's put into the lineup when he's not healthy enough to play the field.
  19. Gordon is getting closer to beginning a rehab assignment. https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/twins-nick-gordon-nearing-baseball-activities/
  20. If I were the Angels I would settle for Walner & Polanco. Maybe Maeda could establish some good rapport with Ohtani & then we can sign them both & have Japanese Twins. Ohtani could make up for all the millions that the Twins spent on Tsuyoshi Nishioka, the Japanese infielder who broke his leg.
  21. Next year Wacha & the Padres have a mutual option, and the year after that the Padres have a club option which amounts to a 2 year future contract at that point that they don't need to exercise. The long term benefit of signing Lopez is questionable & the loss of Arraez seems to have jinxed the team's hitting. Ever hear about the curse on the Red Sox for trading Babe Ruth?
  22. The Twins had their chance to sign FA pitcher Michael Wacha & to keep Arraez but the Padres signed Wacha instead & now he's 8-2. with an ERA of 2.84. Wacha's contract is for $7.5 mil for this year with mutual & club options for future years at $16 mil. It's appears that the Twins could have targeted Wacha without sacrificing protection of the club's future pitching, hitting or financial outlook. It's virtually impossible for them to buy their way out of the quicksand when they traded away their best hitting talent who was under team control through the end of 2025. The only upcoming FA that I can think of that could help the Twins out of this mess is Ohtani which would require a miracle.
  23. Dreams of MLB greatness for BB are not over. He doesn't need to be a superman, he only needs to be there when we really need him. If that opportunity ever arises then his value to the Twins will be priceless. Fans can either choose to be optimistic & believe in his potential value or not. That's up to them. You already know how BB feels about it. He'll be back.
  24. Even if Max scored, it doesn't mean that the Twins would have won the game.
