  1. Still waiting to hear of a players-only meeting, hopefully called by Nelson Cruz. Telling the team to relax, have fun, trust their teammates... Maybe politely suggest to Rosario and Garver that swinging at the first pitch when a clutch-hit is needed isn't the best idea in the world?
  2. Winning a 2-1 game is nice. It shows the Twins don't have to hit 5 homeruns a game to win. Was it as nice as their 1-0 win against the Astros? No, because those games are supposed to be close. But it was still nice. Duffy, Romo, and Rogers all looked confident out there.
  3. I just don't want Puig getting pissed in an upcoming Twins/Indians series and rushing the mound at Rogers or Harper. Sano is going to have to be on "hired goon" dirty those games. Still thinking Twins will land MadBum or Minor.
  4. Last game at the Dome of the 1987 regular season. Bert Blyleven put runners at the corners with no outs in the first. George Brett hits a hot-shot to Gaetti; to Newman at second for one; Newman ignores all baseball logic and throws home for the atypical 5-4-2 double-play. Then Puckett, Gaetti, and Hrbek all go yard in the bottom of the first, and the Twins clinch a tie for first in the AL West. (Maybe that's just the greatest inning in Twins' baseball?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaFsAboGwfM
  5. Twins also took the season series from the Houston Astros, 4 games to 3.
  6. It's not just the bullpen: it's the pitching staff. Since the All-Star break, the Twins have only had one starter pitch through the 7th: Kyle Gibson on 7/18. The bullpen is over-taxed, and the starters are not helping them at all.
  7. I'd like to see Luis Arreaz get a shot in the 1 or 2 hole int he batting lineup tonight. He's the one batter who consistently takes a ton of pitches. Let him work the count and get Polanco, Cruz, Rosario, Kepler, and Sano a chance to see all the pitches before they bat. And moving Kepler down against righties gives him the chance to do more damage with runners on-base.
  8. Buxton to 7-day concussion list as a precaution. (Dave Schwartz on Twitter.)
  9. I both dread and anticipate the rest of this series...
  10. They're only 3 games back in the Wild Card race, but they'd have to leap over five-six other teams to get there (including three in their own division.) They're still currently 4 games under .500. I think they're selling, it just might be another week or two before they do. (And I hope the Twins only take Smith instead of a Smith/Bumgarner combo, personally.)
  11. Orlando Cabrera was a smart trade for the Twins in 2009. A positive locker room presence with postseason experience. Had a great Game 163 with a homer on offense and line-drive double play with runners at the corners in the top of the 9th.
  12. I just want to see a Cleveland Indians' fan wearing an "American League Rust Belt Champion" shirt at some point in the future.
  13. Listened to Falvey on the SKOR North Twins Show podcast on 7/10. I'm going to paraphrase from memory here, but essentially he said that - because of the hard July 31st deadline date - sellers are more likely to lower their asking price the closer to the deadline they wait to pull the trigger. My positive side says "That's smart shopping." My neutral sid says "But don't wait too long." And my negative side says "So you're going to let the other teams get the good pitchers to win this year; take the third- or fourth-tier leftovers; and be happy with a first-round elimination, losing three straight to whichever team takes Bumgartner or Stroman."
  14. Was just going to post something along the lines of "If the Twins are going to SF for MadBum, hopefully they can package Will Smith in, too." A second strong lefty out of the pen is more important than a starter, IMO. Smith could be used in 2-3x as many postseason games as Bumgarner, if used properly.
  15. Hearing Dick getting flustered with Romero's control here in the 8th... There's something comforting yet frustrating with that.
  16. Can we get a left-handed specialist to pitch to Vogelbach? Maybe swap Pineda and Kepler for his at-bats?
  17. So the outside low corner is a strike today. Remember that call on Vogelbach.
  18. Twins need another lefty in the bullpen for a deep playoff run. Trading within the division is a tough sell/buy. Go hard for Smith first, Vasquez second, Watson third.
  19. Guys! Google does math for you! I just typed it into the search bar and... oh, somehow I got porn results. Lots of porn results. Oh, the librarian said I'd be banned from using their free internet if this happened again.
  20. No depressed Minnesota baseball fan's ears would fail to perk up at the sound of the weird "beer."
  21. And Miami - the worst team in the NL; 4th worst team in MLB - has outscored Milwaukee 24-3 in taking the first two games of their series. Maybe this is the statistical week MLB is punishing the good teams and rewarding the meek?
  22. Never what you want to read about anyone in this sport, regardless of what team they play on. I know the term "thoughts and prayers" has almost become a joke online, but in a case like this where it is literally the only thing a non-doctor can do to help a stranger... Thoughts and prayers to him, his family, and his teammates.
