    That is as twisted logic as I have seen here. A floor is a mandatory minimum. So no, spending over a cap is not a floor. Really, how the f does someone come up with that? One has nothing to do with the other

    If I was saying that I would have said that. It was said that no team would have to spend 40 million at once. The Pohlads may well have kept a team near the floor. Hence when a group leaves at the end of a term, the payroll can drop and a team would have to spend a large amount at once

    In basketball almost all of the teams are over the cap. In hockey the lowest spending team is 12 million below the cap. There is nothing out there that shows a floor benefits the players or makes any team better

    Lamarus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Andre Drummond, Taj Gibson is a little bit above the minimum. Iguodola is a little above also. You can't destroy the notion. Regardless of the floor, the problem is what the cap is and how many max contracts there are. It has absolutely nothing to do with the floor in basketball as the only team near the floor or not over the cap is OKC.

    The only way to have parity with floors and ceilings is to have a hard ceiling, hard floor at the start of the year, contracts that are limited to 1 year and the team with a departing free agent gets a chance to match a contract with perhaps a small expense attached that also goes to the player. It would also get players paid for what they do. It would give everybody a chance at players, It prevents the equivalent of a Kevin Durant kind of situation

    When Nathan, Cuddyer, Kubel and Capps left, in todays market that would leave a 40 million dollar hole.

    Not every player has a no trade agreement. Currently teams have traded to get their break from the tax. The Betts trade did net Boston a fine player while giving up nothing, LA Dodger dumped salary after the 2017 season. They gave up nothing to do so. There is nothing to incentivize taking on contracts besides the cash that came along with the player. That cash pays for the player

    The more things change, the more they stay the same. Sano is like Plouffe. Plouffe should have been traded after the 2014 season , The value after a good season was never going to be higher. Ryan's logic was that they would have to find a replacement. Two seasons later he was released, Twins might have gotten a thank you for the opportunity. The Twins might have gotten a decent pitching prospect. It was Terry Ryan so likely a tall sinkerball pitcher. Sano had the great season. A trade could have patched a hole while creating another. The team again could have had a great prospect for the former great prospect putting everything together. On the other hand analytics might have said no to a trade for any of those two.

    When someone assess the front office here do they also give the front office any credit for the ownership hamstring? Pohlad has to sign off on the contracts. Dire Straights may have money for nothing (and the chicks for free) but it didn't come from a Pohlad. The Pavano and Hughes extensions, the Nolasco fiasco, and the Ervin Santana suspension would make it hard for anyone to convince Pohlad to pay for a pitcher. I bet he was also happy how Johan deal turned out

    I have no idea as to what the ideal starter for the Twins FO looks like. They have a profile as they are analytic driven bunch. My guess would be a durable four seam fastball, slider, third pitch type pitcher that they have not found . Pineda misses on the durability. He is stop gap anywhere he signs

    Given the contract Ray signed for one year, 28 other teams also must be run by less than brilliant minds. Since when would paying Gausman 18.9 million be dumpster diving? Given his history and 2019, the 9 million they gave him wasn't dumpster money either

    In what universe does a baseball team vote for a proposal that is going to cost them money and lead them to signing mediocre players? Signing the mid level players is not going to make any of the low budget teams that are sitting with rosters that totaled less than 20 fwar into anything but a losing team.     Increased torque in the delivery increases the speed of a fastball. That same torque also increases the stress on joints. Some arms can take it, some cannot. There will be those that say it is the increased sliders leading to the injuries. It may be due to the increased speed. Look up the PT who writes here

    There are some things that don't seem well thought out to me. There is a call for multi inning relief pitchers. When there are has been only a couple of instances of 100 inning relievers in the last 20 years, very few 80 and 90 inning pitchers and a lot of Tommy John surgery it would appear that the arms of today really is not going to hold up to the demands of max effort pitching on little rest. You have little rest with more innings. Some people need routine, some do not. Some people thrive with order, some with chaos. The trick is to have like minded people where they work best.

    And the ratings could be so wrong that Lewis could be that one of two players by the end of the season that make the difference between division glory and division gory

    2019 was unexpected. That is the joy of human performance events. Which player is going to show up? Are some players maturing or now past over ripe going to rotten? The position players have not changed all that much. 2 players could be the difference. It could be no difference. If I knew the answer I wouldn't have a question.

    You used Olney as a source that the team is not one or two players away. Two players could make all the difference in the world for next year's Twins. A healthy Beuhler and Urias would make all the difference in the world for the Twins. Olney is a fop, yet you use him for stating the Twins do not have any top 10 position players. . You can't have it both ways

    To make it palatable for a rebuilding team to take a salary dump is to entice them with decent prospect. Money for the franchises that are in the luxury tax realm is easier to come by than prospects, so the idea of trading prospects to dump salary is not going to happen unless it is a boatload of high risk, high ceiling, warted out prospects.

    They had the common sense to keep Ryan's players. They for the most part did not make stupid moves until this year. So they can take 100 percent of the credit for success as well as 100 percent for the failure of 2021

    The track record of prospect lists has improved, but it is not a foolproof science. What is the proof of Buster Onley's self proclaimed greatness other than a paycheck for scribbles or babbles? It is no better than the proclaimed greatness of a prospect list
