  1. Thanks for the post Willihammer. I may look in to one of those for my nephew. He is a high school pitcher
  2. I would have the team two position players up by May. But would keep Nolasco and sign one more free agent pitcher. Berrios not quite ready and I would not rely on May and Meyer both contributing.
  3. I feel the same way but there are financial considerations that they need to take care of first. They may have to wait a month before they call both of them up. Does make for a nice looking lineup. Looking forward to next year.
  4. When I read the debate on whether a player (Goodrum for instance) should be on the 40 man roster I am not sure how I feel about it until I see how many spots they have available and who has to come off if he goes on. I saw him play a couple times and your description is accurate- very athletic. Kinda like Santana's so I am hoping for a repeat. I may have to try an make a 40 man list.
  5. If Escobar ranks 3rd on the defensive rating not sure why we have to upgrade there. He has hit OK for a shortstop. Outfield defense I agree has to be better before we can expect any real improvement. Problem that I see is that Arcia fields and hits like a DH but that spot is taken.
  6. How much different does Pelfrey profile than Wade Davis? Davis was a back end of rotation starter with a mid 4- to sometimes 5 era. Threw mid 90's as a starter but added velocity in bullpen. It could happen
  7. Great news - Would have been worse if they did not find anything
  8. I for one was very impressed. His fastball seemed to move away from left handers. He also located his pitches better than I have ever seen him. I hate to use the "c" word but that is his next hurdle. Can he duplicate that performance? Stayed tuned
  9. So the next question is do you extend him, trade him or go year to year ? The answer depends on what you think he is and what the rest of the league thinks he is. Personally I like Dozier I like his all around game.
  10. Enjoyed the article. Agree 100%. I think it is important to do this year so you can evaluate the next manager. If you pick the wrong guy it does not cost you next year. When all that talent you mentioned is major league ready and you still have the wrong guy you will be wasting your window of opportunity.
  11. Anyone know why Masterson is so bad this year? Two of his last three years are very good. He will turn 30 about when next season starts. He is interesting- price should be reasonable.
  12. I enjoyed the analysis. The only move I would not be in favor of is signing a left fielder with the idea of trading him later. Schafer has earned a chance at a regular spot. Not sure he will keep it. Hicks does look different. Looks like the game is slowing down for him. I am not sure if Arcia will ever figure it out but he is still young. If Sano comes up Plouffe may be looking for playing time. Try him at a corner spot. Maybe, maybe maybe Buxton stays healthy and comes up. If Twins were a contender I would agree that they sorely need a proven corner outfielder. But next year I would still develope.
  13. It may have been a blessing for the bullpen also. Burdi got the final 7 outs on last time he pitched. Were you suprised he was asked to get that many this late in the season?
  14. Reminds me of Scott Diamond. No margin for error because his stuff is below average. He was worth a shot but no one to plan on for next year.
  15. It's not as if there aren't any outfield jobs open. I think he is forcing his way into the picture for next year. I like him batting ninth. His speed and stolen bases are for real. And as Seth said he makes a good 4th outfielder at the very least.
  16. I wouldn't even pursue a left fielder that hard. I could see Plouffe, Santana, Hicks all looking for playing time. They should still pursue another starting pitcher. A very good one. We don't need quantity but could use quality.
  17. Seems like he threw more curveballs. Had a very good one tonight. Hopefully we see more of this Nolasco. He pitched great.
  18. I would keep Plouffe. Everyone thinks Sano will be a great major league hitter but until he proves that we need to keep Plouffe. There are still questions about Sano being able to play 3B in the majors. If ALL our prospects make it I could still see a role for Plouffe as a possible platoon partner with Arcia, bench bat, fill in for Mauer when he misses his 40 games, may even be a late inning defensive replacement for Sano.
  19. I would try and find a team with two good defensive catchers that is looking to trade. I would trade Pinto for a catcher that could catch. No to Mauer or Pinto moving to LF. We need outfielders that have some range and can defend. We have too many DH's already. Arcia plays OF like a DH. Santana has no position. Pinto seems to me to not have a role on this team. I think a trade is in everyone's best interest.
  20. Thanks for the Kepler update. With all his injuries he had kinda fallen off the radar. Good to hear he may be turning the corner.
  21. I would like to see Meyer, Oliveras, Pryor, Darnell (for bullpen) Hicks and Pinto I don't think there is that much playing time available. Need to let Nolasco and Milone keep starting but would like to see Meyer get the nerves out of the way. We need Hicks just in case Schafer or Santana gets hurt. Pinto should catch some in games versus non-contenders. Suzuki has his extension doesn't need to catch those games except if Meyer or May is starting. May throwing better tonight with Suzuki. The bullpen is starting to wear down IMHO - bring up some reinforcements First time looking forward to September in four years.
  22. I enjoy your reports. I tape all the games and watch them without the commercials. I love the way Hughes keeps a quick pace. Part of the reason he has a lot of fouls is that he is around the plate a lot. He refuses to walk people. A few AB's every game where the hitter can't put the fastball on the black in play and Hughes just keep throwing it.
  23. We finally have options worth discussing. Kinda exciting. Much better than complaining about Butera and Correia. Small sample size but I have also been impressed with Schafer and if he could just raise his average a bit could make an excellent 4th OF. His base stealing is impressive. He has made three catches in left field that I have made the same comment on. No way Willingham gets to that ball, I can see the light on the position players - Pitching staff still fuzzy.
  24. Do you know where I can find the probable starters for Cedar Rapids for next week? I am thinking road trip. Thanks
  25. I wouldn't trade him. If he could just be slightly below average defensively he would be very valuable. He seems to have a good arm if he is still working hard hang in there with him. Plouffe seems to have gotten better defensively maybe Pinto can. I still hold out hope.
