  1. While we're on the subject, Dozier's hair hasn't looked particularly glorious for awhile.
  2. No, Haley's rehab started June 26 (to a rookie league team). So they have to activate him by July 25th (or put him back on the DL, I suppose, but I think he needs to be back by mid-August anyway to meet the 90 days active requirement to remove Rule 5 restrictions before next season. It would kinda suck if we couldn't even option him next spring...).
  3. Trevor Cahill, Padres, probably doesn't meet your innings requirement, but he's right up there for available SP rentals.
  4. And to disguise his public inquiries, he has cleverly added a letter "h" in his last name!
  5. They actually have a little more value now that they are off the 40-man roster. Except I think Tonkin will be eligible for minor league free agency in a couple months unless he is added back. Pat Light was darn near that point of low value when we acquired him. Of course, an Abad type pitcher might be pretty worthless too. I'd rather go big or promote a minor leaguer.
  6. New longest (and likely best) start ever for Meyer, against the organization that drafted him: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K. Only 88 pitches, 52 strikes. 8 groundouts, 3 flyouts. He had a perfect game until 2 outs in the fifth, and a no hitter until 2 outs in the 6th.
  7. Bigger question: has the plate ever been blocked for Colon?
  8. FYI, Meyer is pitching right now (late Wednesday night) versus the Nationals on ESPN.
  9. Is this about the Dayton statement: "Would this have happened if those passengers, the driver were white?" he asked. "I don't think it would have." Isn't that statistically likely? What percentage of police shooting victims are non-white, compared to the population at large? Heck, wasn't it clearly stated that Yanez stopped him in part because Castile resembled a robbery suspect?
  10. Colon may have to survive 2 innings on the mound in order to have a turn at bat in LA. I am not sure I like those chances either. (Assuming we don't move him up in the order )
  11. The evidence of him being effective in early innings this year is pretty much just this one game. I wouldn't get my hopes up on that front. Even a 8-9 ERA pitcher can string together a few scoreless innings, but I don't think it's possible to predict and avoid the blowups. His stats by inning this year: https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=colonba01&year=2017&t=p#innng::none
  12. Maybe the Twins signed Colon to convince Hughes, Breslow, and Belisle of retirement too?
  13. That is fair. I assume you are referring to the fact that Luzardo already had TJ surgery too? Thorpe is a little more proven/advanced now, though -- should throw a few more innings this year, already looks ready for AA. I was thinking Ynoa or Graterol as Luzardo comps. Would probably come down to Oakland's scouting (same would apply to other pieces in the deal), but I feel like these offers would have been competitive, could have gotten counter offers.
  14. Capps was only about $1.3 mil, Fuentes $1.8 (it was only 1 month), and Flores was maybe $120k? So just over $3 mil in 2010.
  15. I think with Oakland, most trades have an element of salary dump.
  16. I don't think the Twins have taken on a ~$10 mil guarantee in trade, as Madson represents. Much less the $15 mil total of Madson plus Doolittle here. We know they are willing to add that in arb and free agency, generally (although maybe not in the pen), but it does seem like perhaps they are unwilling/unable to make that level of move/adjustment/commitment midseason, for whatever reason.
  17. Jepsen had about $1 mil left on his contract. I don't think Chief meant any salary, in absolute terms.
  18. Actually Doolittle is guaranteed about $5.5 mil through 2018. Cotts was only owed ~$750k when we acquired him. Stewart was due about $3 mil.
  19. Average game entering leverage index. The higher the number, the closer the score is when you enter the game. The number actually goes down the larger your lead is. Treinen would not have achieved that mark by primarily pitching the last innings of 4+ run wins, just like Duffey hasn't done so this year. It's not a perfect comp, but it is as close as the Twins currently have. Pressly is more expensive and probably worse right now. If Duffey is a little better/cheaper, the other parts of the deal could be lowered to compensate (which I believe is what Thrylos did), although I think we likely would have needed to beat the deal rather than match it.
  20. Interestingly, 20 wins is actually a more notable achievement now, with reduced starter workloads. Still not a great primary Cy Young Award criteria, of course.
  21. Perhaps the Twins were trying to get their damage deposit back on their Metronome lease? Perhaps it was the work of that cult who believes in the infallibility of Bob Casey?
  22. What do you mean? He pulled double duty tonight, creating his own mop-up situation!
  23. Trades could be a-brewin': JD Martinez to Arizona: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/tigers-trade-jd-martinez-diamondbacks.html Todd Frazier, David Robertson, and Tommy Kahnle to the Yankees: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/yankees-nearing-deal-to-acquire-frazier-robertson-kahnle.html Very interested to see the haul on that latter deal, assuming it happens...
