  1. Themes included trade talk, positional battles, and even the sport as a whole: The cheese in Carlos Correa's jucy lucy hadn't even melted yet, but cmoss84 was already dreaming about a superstar duet on the left side of the infield: Jose Ramirez stringer bell analyzed who might comprise the roster's rhythm section, behind the big names: Third and fourth outfielder No mixtape is complete without a diss track. Azviking101 provided one with a perfect song title: Thoughts from a cynical Twins fan (hope I am wrong) Taking a break from Twins talk, garn from vancouver slowed things down with a plaintive ballad about the modern game: sabermetrics and the enjoyment of baseball And we close with a collaborative instrumental -- a thread without words: Meme your thoughts about this front office right now Feel free to jam with the community in any of these discussions, or start one of your own.
  2. It's that kind of hunger that drives great game thread posters.
  3. Rooker is now out of the lineup today, replaced by Derek Fisher.
  4. Time: 12:05 PM CDT TV: MLB.TV or Bally Sports North Radio: MLB Audio Today is the last day of the MLB.TV "free preview," where all of the broadcasts are listed as "free games of the day." After today, you may need to have a subscription to watch the Twins via MLB.TV, although blackouts should remain unenforced for the rest of spring training. Rays lineup 1. Brandon Lowe (L) 2B 2. Wander Franco (S) SS 3. Yandy Diaz (R) 3B 4. Luke Raley (L) LF 5. Manuel Margot (R) RF 6. Ryon Healy (R) DH 7. K. Kiermaier (L) CF 8. Rene Pinto (R) C 9. J. Aranda (L) 1B SP: Drew Rasmussen (RHP) Twins lineup 1. Byron Buxton (R) CF 2. Jorge Polanco (S) 2B 3. Luis Arraez (L) 3B 4. Miguel Sano (R) 1B 5. Gary Sanchez (R) C 6. Max Kepler (L) DH 7. 5. It doesn't look like Spotrac is adding in any minimum salary players to fill the roster -- that $114 mil is just the 16 guys they list with above-minimum contracts. (They also don't list an arb estimate for Arraez.) Cot's Baseball Contracts estimates salaries for those guys, and pegs us at about $125 mil right now.
  6. With G Cinco, it's less how he looks, and more how he sounds.
  7. How about a 28 man roster?
  8. One other thing I think I mentioned elsewhere: Correa has been so good (averaging 7.3 bWAR per 162 games), and is so young (27), that his value is likely to remain pretty high for the following 2 seasons, regardless of how he does on the field, or how much he manages to stay on the field, in 2022. Maybe not quite at $35.1 mil each year, but probably not far away.
  9. Does it change your view to consider that the contract isn't front-loaded at all? The money is spread out evenly over all 3 years, and it's pretty close to his expected AAV on a long-term deal too. By comparison, Trevor Bauer's 3/102 deal in LA would have paid him $40 mil (albeit half deferred) if he had opted out after the first year, or $85 mil if he opted out after 2 years.
  10. Just got an email from MLB. The T-Mobile promotion will be available from Tuesday April 5th through Monday April 11th.
  11. Duran was hurt and didn't pitch anywhere after June; Winder same, July. Balazovic was healthy but considering he had never pitched at AA before June 2021 and he was limited to ~97 innings, it would have been fairly aggressive to place him in MLB in September.
  12. Fangraphs has our current staff tied for 18th in MLB in projected WAR. Rogers is projected tied for the 3rd best reliever WAR in MLB, behind only Hendriks and Hader.
  13. A lineup of mostly Twins reserves (plus Kent Hrbek) lose a spring training game to former Twin Jim Eisenreich and the Kansas City Royals. But WCCO's Mark Rosen gushes about the new Royals spring training complex, featuring an amusement park, and suggests the Twins may soon be persuaded to leave Orlando for a similar new development in Fort Myers. 15. I probably jumped the gun in sharing this report. Haven't seen anything about Cueto from more established sources in the last 24 hours. Perhaps that indicates that any Twins interest in Cueto is more of a fallback option, in case a trade target falls through?
  16. Interesting. I've never seen both of them in the same place at the same time either. Maybe Dobnak was just looking for a fresh start under a pseudonym? Or more likely, Jhon Romero was pretending to be "Randy Dobnak" this whole time. That would explain the glasses and mustache disguise.
  17. You two might be interested in the Fangraphs depth chart projections. They have all current Twins SP with a combined 9.2 WAR. Gray 2.4, Bundy 1.4, Ober & Ryan at 1.8 each. White Sox SP are projected at 14.8, Cleveland and Detroit at 10.7 each, and KC at 9.0.
  18. It’s only a matter of time until Albers is a Twin again.
  19. Here is the new waiver rule: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-lockout-10-important-under-the-radar-changes-in-cba-including-new-schedule-format-and-loss-of-game-163/ Now a team that claims a player on waivers goes to the back of the line whenever the player is placed on waivers later that year. For example, if we waive Romero, and he gets claimed, and then his next team waives him again, we’d have lowest waiver priority, regardless of record.
  20. I would guess any Cueto deal would take a few days to become official, just like Correa. And yeah, as ashbury pointed out under the article, Romero is pretty likely to hit waivers again very soon.
  21. You are correct on Enlow, but I don’t think it is avoidable. We can’t option him if he is injured, so he has to go on a MLB IL (collecting salary and service time) by opening day anyway. EDIT: normally injured/recovering players can't be optioned, but Enlow actually falls into a small exception group this spring: https://twinsdaily.com/forums/topic/55494-blayne-enlow-and-flexible-40-man-roster-spots/
  22. FWIW, I don't think Romero has ever ranked on a Cubs or Nationals top ~30 list. He signed at an older age, has always been exclusively a reliever, and didn't move up the ladder much. He may be better now than that lack of ranking would suggest, but if he has any chance at being good, seems a little strange that rebuilding Washington would waive him with options remaining.
  23. Romero has all 3 of his option years remaining, as his call-up in September 2021 was the first time he had been placed on a 40-man roster. (September 2021 was also the first time he even reached AAA.)
