  1. I don't think we fully appreciate above said fielding performances until they are not made. Mauer has become a very good fielding 1st baseman and Buxton is as good as it gets in CF. Buxton's hitting continues to be beneath where it needs to be for certain. If he could get the BA up to around .250 while drawing some walks/strike out less and utilizing his speed that would be great.
  2. Fantastic article...great insight as to the difficult road to the Big Leagues!
  3. Another opportunity for Gibson to prove he intends on not being sent down in the near future. Unfortunately from an inventory of legit talent standpoint we aren't overflowing in the pitching department at the big league level. If Gibson can continue to repeat the last couple of performances that would certainly be an upgrade to 3 reliable starters. Santana/Berrios/Gibson...Let us hope he can come through.
  4. Unbleeping believable but yet totally believable as these stories seem to pop up on a daily basis of young kids enduring this. We all did dumb things as 15 year olds but this a different animal all together.
  5. Maybe you could take it out for a blind date. Fantastic article for certain.
  6. I think the Dark Man's line says it all...RIP for certain Dark.
  7. If I were those boys I would be taking in everything LaTroy has to say. Guy carved out a 21 year career! He had many struggles in the beginning of his career and transformed himself into a fantastic relief pitcher. Great asset to have him in the organization to help the kids out.
  8. Didn't Yogi say '90% of the game is half mental'...perhaps it is something as simple as he is lacking in confidence between the ears or he is thinking too much? Whatever is going on with him hopefully it is cured soon...this game will eat you alive it you think too much!
  9. Same here if you made me pick just one. I do find value and entertainment in all of them. Personally I like the fact Bert does about 100 or games or (I believe) per year. It is fun listening to others to color commentary.
  10. It has everything to do with the $23/year he is making. Had the Twins let him walk can you imagine the bleeping you know what fans would have done? They paid him what the market dictated at the time. He was going to get PAID big time either here or somewhere else. You can argue to a certain extent they have been careful with their payroll since Joe signed that deal but you cant argue they didn't commit to a player who at the time was the best hitting catcher in the game. Time catches up to all of us eventually. Joe has had some years I am certain he thought were below par for a player of his caliber. Would it make people feel better if here making say $15/year and had times were he struggled compared to where he used to be?
  11. Great read thanks for the time in writing it. It would be interesting to probe into the minds of pitchers in facing Miguel in certain situations. Do they think they have to strike him out to have a punchers chance at retiring him? How carefully do they pitch to him knowing when he puts the ball in play it is going to be crushed. He seems to be gaining the confidence in himself that if he puts the ball in play hard he is getting on base. It would certainly be nice to see the strikeouts drop but I think that is just the hitter he is. High strikeout/walk % and crusher of the ball. Sure am glad he wears a Twins uniform.
  12. For me it is the 4th of July timeframe. Like you I am enjoying the ride. Fantastic season thus far.
  13. Agree 100%. I would also say let's see where they are at on the 4th of July. You are roughly half way through the season. If they are in it at that time then I consider pulling the plug on a trade as you mentioned. Please do not mortgage the future on such trade. I can't imagine the new front office would do so. What a fantastic fun start to the season!
  14. An unfortunate IALTO.
  15. We often here the terms 'Don't give up an AB' or 'Making the pitcher work etc.' On the flip side pitchers need to execute competitive pitches. Being accurate within the strike zone is imperative. You don't have to throw it by everyone to be competitive within the strike zone. I think if you show you can hit your spots early in the game it benefits later in the game in getting hitters to expand the zone. Fantastic start by Berrios. Lets hope it is the beginning of many more to come.
  16. It sure is and classic Dazzel man copyright John Gordon. Certainly refreshing from time to time when a former player of Gladden/Bert or Jack's stature aren't afraid to call people out...be it a player/member of the coaching staff/manager or scorekeeper. I enjoyed the back and forth banter between Bert and Dick about Mauer's reluctance to change his approach during an at bat. Jack is great as well no doubt about that! When things need to be called out or discussed they should be. Nothing wrong with that at all.
  17. Love the wife bit...that deserves an IALTO!
  18. I want to see them play good consistent ball. Buxton improving his AB approaches would be great. Sano improving in the field to name a couple. Thus far they have played very fundamental ball compared to last year with the exception of one game I believe anyway. Six games is what we have to go by. Certainly not a large sample size but things within those six games to be encouraged about for certain. Four upcoming against Cleveland in the next home stand should give some more insight as to how far this team is progressing or not. A competitive record around Memorial Day would be a great sign heading into the summer months!
  19. Fantastic article. Very entertaining.
  20. Always thought he would have looked fantastic in a Twins uniform.
