Give Darvish and Arrieta 1/30, using the $50 million check every team gets this year. If it’s not going well both can be traded at the deadline. Twins would lose a pick for signing Arrieta but would recoup in a trade or a pick next year. Maybe offer JDM 1/25 too.
I think once baseball gets away from lumbering dinosaurs, who are three true outcome players, and move to more athletic players, triples, steals, great defense, the game will be exciting again. Three outcome players are killing my entertainment.
The longer this goes the less I like Darvish or Arrieta and the more I like rolling the dice on the young guns or something like Chris Tillman. Archer costs too much in a different way, and I don’t think he’s more than a #2. I can’t help but feel like Sonny Gray was the answer.
Isn’t Darvish, Santana, Berrios, and an emergence from one of the next group enough to make Twins contenders? Go after the still needed but lesser priced Alex Colome, if targeting Rays in a trade.
If I’m not mistaken, the Mets have money issues. Paying down Santana and Dozier contracts could go a long way to a better return. And my favorite throw ins Grossy and Gibby.
I would like to see Gibson & Grossman traded in a package together with some of these fringe guys, while paying G&G salaries. Releasing Hughes also make sense. Or including his salary in a trade somehow, though not likely. Edit: Make these moves to free up 40 man spots for the youngsters.
In the SSS of this season it would have been a horrible trade. Lots of time left to see if DeLeon turns out yet. Maybe Dozier will get hurt next year, knock on wood, and we’ll wish the Twins would’ve gotten something out of him while they could.
