Wow, this is great. Makes me really happy for him to end on good terms. Good season, got to be a part of a last pennant race, had fun, and now clears the way for the kids (or Der Kid?) Was not expecting this, but pleasantly surprised.
OK, I googled it. A Chris Jaffe article "History of the Double Header" in three parts was of no help, but apparently the number of DHs per season is on the decline. A different article looked at results of DHs since 2005...and across 200+, sweeps occurred about 51%, and the home team swept about 58% of those. NerdCBU
A good nerd would run the numbers on this. My guess: 50% of the time DH end in a split 50% of the time DH end in a sweep, with home team sweeping slightly more often.
Seems like we might have ourselves one of these here moving days today. Could end today tied for the Wild Card lead with the Angels, ahead of Houston. Could end today 3 back with 4 to play. I think 3-4 Sano home runs today would go a long way towards the Twins wild card chances.
Ugh. I kind of feel like there needs to be a "Creepiest Dance Awards" award given after reading that. I vote for all of the game thread introers. Brilliant!
Unfortunately it doesn't look like Houston will face Hamels this weekend. The Twins face Boyd, Simon, and Randy Wolf. A win tonight would be huge. Not only would it mean a half game back with 10 to play, but Cleveland would be effectively eliminated (with four games in Cleveland to go).
Wow...Pittsburgh and the Cubs both have better records than every team in the AL, and both will wind up in the wild card behind St Louis. One of them will go home on day after the season ends, taking their 95 wins with them.
