  1. Just checking, are we rooting for Texas or Houston?
  2. I think we should all demand that.
  3. Hunter 7 foul balls, 10th pitch, 3-run homer. After Sano RBI single. Twins 4-0, continue to own Sale. CBU.
  4. I would be even more ok of he weren't pitching. Rangers won, Astros currently losing.
  5. The advent of pitchFX has had a big impact - in a positive way - on umpires. That said, a lot of baseball players spend a lot of time getting angry about balls and strike calls. Automation would take a lot of that element out of the game, which would be a good thing.
  6. While I suppose it is technically true that the Twins do in fact control their own destiny since Texas and Houston play each other 7 times, I also would like to point out that if the Twins had managed to go 23-0 in their remaining games and failed to make the playoffs (with 95 wins) that would be really, truly amazing. The reality is the Twins can go 22-1 (finishing with 68 losses) and still control their own destiny, as one of Houston or Texas is guaranteed to have 69 losses. I'll let y'all decide which game you want them to lose.
  7. By comparison, Suzuki posted 6.6 total WAR over the past 5 seasons, or 1.3 wins per season. His extension paid for about a win per season, 2/12 plus the 1/6 vesting option for 2017. I'd much prefer the Twins try to pay more money for a younger catcher who is likely to post higher win totals. It also seems quite plausible that he get healthy again and get back to posting win totals over 3 or even above four. Consistently posts positive defensive numbers, and a switch hitter to boot. He would be far and away target #1 for this off-season, in my opinion. Especially given the fact that Escobar seems to be establishing himself as a viable option, if not asset, at sad going forward.
  8. From 2010-2013, Wieters posted 13 WAR, or 3.25 WAR per season. Last year and this year, injuries have made his contributions negligible. If he is a 3 WAR player, a free agent contract would conceivably pay for 3 wins+2.5+2+1.5 = 9 wins over four years. At $6MM per win, that would be a 4 year, $54MM contract. However, given the injury history, I don't think he can be billed as a 3 win player. If you say he is a 2.5 WAR player, that would mean paying 2.5/2/1.5/1 for 7 total WAR over 4 years, for 4/42, $10.5mm per year. If you could get him for 3 years, that would be 6 WAR, 3/36. Maybe 3/36 with a $12mm option?
  9. If Brian says "this is true" in the forest, does anyone hear (or believe) him?
  10. And Cruz played yesterday, hitting his 40th homer.
  11. But then they would not have proved they were ready to pitch in the majors, since they hadn't established their ability to go deep in starts.
  12. How about: Play the better players.
  13. I think the ump just wanted to see Sano hit that homerun. Now, hope to see Sano back in the lineup Friday, take the weekend series in Chicago, and come home with a winning road trip.
  14. Excellent game thread intro, that will definitely get'er done, Brian. By the way, no need to fact check it, it is all accurate information. I think Sano needs to go yard tonight. By the way, can I be the first one to coin the catchphrase for the 2016 Twins: May and J.O....and pray for Sano?
  15. May or Duffey, either would have been an ok decision. It didnt work out. It is amazing though how Duffey went scoreless for 6 2/3, and then the Astros had 8 runs on the board before the bullpen had recorded two outs. That's remarkable.
  16. May is the best pitcher in the bullpen. But he does have a history of wildness. Coming in to a tight game late with little room for error, on the road, was definitely a recipe for trouble as soon as he started missing. When Lowrie was sitting 2-1, I was thinking to myself--honestly--Lowrie has to be sitting on a fastball down the middle. May clearly wouldn't want to go 3-1 with the tying run on 3rd. May needs to be able to convert in that situation, and he could learn that. But I'd rather see him starting.
  17. Which would have gotten the one run you were looking for.
  18. Morris called Duffey's curveball a slide once and then has called it a "breaking pitch" every time since. Has not called it a curve.
  19. Because they could have put the game away if they load the bases with no-one out.
  20. Monitor HAS to challenge there. Just to have Plouffe's back.
  21. Great W. Somehow need to find a way to win tomorrow against Keuchel to scrape out another series win.
  22. So far, the Twins are undefeated when they start this outfield.
