  1. This gets my vote for post of the night. Good delivery, understated, well done. It almost makes me believe that you have had occasions where you spent, oh, $25mm or so on a given night "back in the day." Which, if you adjust for inflation...
  2. Hmmm. When was Joe Mauer's MVP year again?
  3. That sounds like Meyer is back in the bullpen, doesn't it? But it is mirroring his stint with the big club....no clear word on what his role is, then tons of days off. They are not doing Meyer any favors. And this is year three of questionable decisions on his usage and development. Ugh.
  4. Great job, and fair. I like the "see the forest through the trees" approach you take. I also really like your point about the critical need to add elite players during the window of Sano and Buxton's cheap years/ prime years. Only thing I think you missed was the questionable approaches to developing players like Meyer, Sano, and to a lesser extent, Kepler, Polanco, and Buxton. This a group that should be contributors to the winning team of the not-so-distant future, and their handling has not put them in the best position to succeed, in my opinion. How did you pick 31 games? I like to look at 10-game stretches. So far: 1-9 5-5 2-8
  5. What are you so worried about? Since April 20th, he pitched an inning on April 29 and 2.2 innings on May 2. I'm sure he'll be fine.
  6. I'm just glad that Meyer is back in the AAA rotation and not the bullpen. Hope he can continue to put together good starts.
  7. I like Park too. I was pleasantly surprised when word trickled out that so many teams that hadn't put in the winning bid weren't the Twins, and that...slowly...it became possible, and then a reality, that the Twins had won the bid. What's odd to me though, is to really think about the fact that the Twins brass said they didn't expect to win the bid, were surprised, and had to figure out what to do after it became reality. What does that mean? It means, if you think about it, that they put in a bid that they were fairly sure wouldn't win. They weren't really trying to get him at all. To me, that seems like an indictment of their approach. Not only are they not really trying to go after elite players, but they also want to put in low bids to be able to say "they tried." It's kind of reminiscent of offering Hunter and Santana half their market value. "But guys, we tried to get them to stick around!"
  8. Except that they admitted that they didn't expect to get Park, and they didn't know what to do with their roster once he got there, resulting in moving their top young player to a position he has never played an inning of in his life, and no one his size in the history of baseball had succeeded in the outfield before. Not sure if that's a scenario deserving of too much credit.
  9. Good points. But I don't think it is so much that he is fine with failure, just that he doesn't demand they strive to be the best. They target average players, rarely, if ever, elite players. There have been numerous posts about how the Twins have invested a lot of innings throwing players into positions they have never played before at any level. And doing it at the major-league level, against the best in the world. I think Molitor should be included in this list, having never managed before.
  10. PS--Sorry we didn't leave you in to face one more batter in that game....lefty pitcher Oliver Perez. In retrospect, it might have been better to leave you in to face the lefty, because you are really, really good at getting lefties out. He might have had a harder time getting a bunt down with two outs against you than he did against Tonkin.
  11. I thought claimed off waivers means the claiming team takes on the contract?
  12. I have two questions: 1)Is he going back to the rotation in Rochester? 2)If he had given up a deeper fly ball on his last pitch, the run would have scored...would he have stayed in with the bases empty? Wondering because he might have continued pitching in the fourth, maybe the fifth....and might have fared better than Millone did. Might have won the game, actually.
  13. I really wish Sano had not been called out. Might have been worth a challenge. Altuve kept the tag on but the tag came loose a bit, and Sano's other foot came on the bag.
  14. Backing up for a second, I loved the Berrios interview. Love that he said the coaches told him he needed 2,099 more wins to make the Hall of Fame.
  15. Wow, that's pulling the plug on him almost as quickly as Molitor.
  16. He hit 98 once, and 97 twice. He game up three hits and three walks. He definitely had some bad misses, but pulling him in the third inning after he'd gotten two outs with a man in third is just...pathetic.
  17. Ridiculous to pull him after 2.2 innings with 3 runs in.
  18. Jerry Layne, the umpire from last night, called that on the field. Apparently doesn't like to be proven wrong. Does this mean if a fan reaches over to catch a ball it is a home run? Suddenly the first row of the OF seats are more important.
  19. If only the Twins had the guy with the highest OBP in the league, now that would be a guy they could put in the lead-off spot.
  20. Maybe trade Nolasco to the Tigers? How would you feel if your favorite team signed Jordan Zimmermann and Mike Pelfrey to multi-year contracts in the same off-season? Is that a net positive?
