  1. I've really been impressed with Ryan Pressly, and I'm hoping he can become a 7th/8th inning guy. He's been effective throwing 98 and with a cutter and a good curveball. Even Michael Tonkin has finally shown that he might be an option late in games. Probably not really a setup guy in the 8th, but can be trusted to hold a lead in the 6th/7th.
  2. One pretty obvious (non)-move is that we'd all be relieved that Phil Hughes' contract would be coming off the books after this season.
  3. It wouldn't be a great match, but I'd definitely trade the #5 pick to get Okafor. Maybe the #5 and Shabazz would be enough. I think Philly wants a guard to go with Simmons, and there should be a good one available for them at 5.
  4. Not that it matters for the Wolves, but I think Simmons would be the better pick. He would slide right into the PF spot and help with the rebounding problem. Plus, the Wolves should be competing for a playoff spot next year, and Simmons is more ready to be an immediate help. I wouldn't be too concerned with his lack of shooting with all the other skills he provides.
  5. Brandon Peterson appears to be returning to form. His season ERA is down to 2.42, and over his last 10 appearances, he's struck out 24 in only 15.1 innings.
  6. Marquess Chriss is the only guy up there that I really don't want. To me, he has bust written all over him. He's got great athleticism, but his rebounding makes Andrew Wiggins look like Moses Malone, so basically the opposite of what the Wolves need.
  7. There might be some character issues going on there. I've heard that the team didn't really get along and maybe resented how much attention Simmons got. I'd still take him #1 even though I really like Brandon Ingram too. The situation kinda reminds me of when O.J. Mayo and Michael Beasley played each other in a 6 vs. 11 game in the NCAA tournament. Both had mediocre talent around them, and it doesn't really help make a case for elite high schoolers to go anywhere besides Kentucky/Duke/Kansas.
  8. What's everyone's thoughts with the draft one week away? My board is 1. Simmons 2. Ingram 3. Bender 4. Murray 5. Hield 6. Ellenson 7. Dunn Murray is my hopeful pick right now.
  9. The Wolves need to get better at rebounding, and Love can definitely provide that. Also, don't forget the Thibodeau effect in terms of defense that should happen.
  10. That's one problem that I see with Butler. I'd prefer Towns, Wiggins, and Lavine grow together like Durant and Westbrook (and Harden should have been there too) did.
  11. The Angels are doing a great job of wasting Mike Trout's greatness so far. Let's see if they can keep it up.
  12. Lewis Thorpe is the guy I really want to see pitch again. He had a 3.52 ERA with 10 K/9 as an 18 year old in Cedar Rapids 2 years ago, so I think your back-end starter/reliever prediction is a little pessimistic.
  13. Looking at Crawford's baseball-reference page, it't crazy how his numbers just fell off a cliff after the big free agent deal. Be careful looking at the career year in a player's free agent year I guess.
  14. "The Twins pitching staff continues to underperform and the highly touted young talent (Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario, Jose Berrios) have struggled to produce at the highest level."
  15. They lumped Sano in along with Buxton, Rosario, and Berrios as highly thought of prospects who have struggled so far in the MLB.
  16. The pitching contracts are awful, but the minor league system struggles seem to be too early to call, and that was a large part of the article. And apparently Sporting News considers an .870 OPS for Miguel Sano to be struggling, unless they're factoring in his struggle at a position he's never played before.
  17. I'd like Wilson Ramos as a FA sign. The problem is that it looks like he'll be coming off of a career year. He's hitting .337 with a .949 OPS at 28 years old. Will he get a Brian McCann 5 yr $85M contract?
  18. I'd bump Travis Harrison down to 7th on the corner OF list. I don't know if it's a draft position thing with Harrison in regards to him even being ranked on these types of prospect lists, but he hasn't really done much of anything since a decent season in Cedar Rapids 3 years ago. I will give him credit for improving this year in his second chance in Chattanooga, but it's still just a .751 OPS.
  19. If the Cavs would take Gorgui and the #5 pick for Kevin Love, that would be a great move for the Wolves.
  20. Wiggins and the #5 pick for Butler. Um... no thanks.
  21. The starting pitching free agent list for this offseason is awful. Wow.
  22. I cannot stand watching Kyle Gibson pitch, but after reading this, he probably needs to be kept for next year, given the other options.
  23. Couldn't they get experience in the MLB, while at the same time giving fans something to watch? That seems like the best move to me, as long as they're not completely overmatched.
  24. Yeah it's been impressive. He's shown a slider/cutter at 91 recently too.
  25. And now the White Sox have DFA'd Jimmy Rollins in order to bring up their top SS prospect, Tim Anderson. I guess they're not messing around.
