  1. I think the best way for these players to learn would be up with the Twins. They're going to have to make adjustments at some point, and I'd rather have them do that in a lost year than next year when there's a possibility of competing. Are you really suggesting Danny Santana and Mastro play CF for over 2 more months, while Buxton mashes in AAA? I don't see how that's good for anyone.
  2. That's kinda the sense that I got too. Berrios seems to have extremely high expectations for himself, and he was really pressing. I wonder if he just hasn't gotten something to click yet with his mechanics or something, or if all of the pressure of trying to show what he can do in the MLB got to him a little bit.
  3. It looks like Grossman's elite skill is taking walks. He has a .271 BA in the minors, with a .379 OBP. He walked over 100 times back in 2011, which got BP to rank him their #76 prospect.
  4. I would say Nick Gordon probably should spend the whole year in Fort Myers. He's off to a really good start, but a few things to work on would be his 5/21 BB/K ratio, and he's only 6/11 on stolen base attempts.
  5. I didn't want Berrios to be sent down, especially considering there are no intriguing replacements for him right now, but what happened to your great control, Jose? That's the thing that's really bothering me right now. All he had to do was not be terrible, and he would've been given plenty of shots to stay in the rotation and never pitch in the minors again.
  6. Alright, but that's pretty much what I'm saying. I'd like Meyer to replace him if he were healthy, but I'm predicting Hughes is out of the rotation when Gibson comes back. I'm disagreeing with those saying the Twins are going to send Berrios back down when Gibson is ready. That seems highly unlikely to me.
  7. Phil Hughes was put in the bullpen for a while just last year if I'm remembering right. I'm assuming that's where he ends up pretty soon this year.
  8. They would be right at the "out of their minds" level if they sent Berrios back down for the reason of keeping spots for Nolasco and Hughes.
  9. Milone has been solid for years before a rough start this year, and the Twins were quick to get him out of the rotation. Hughes and Nolasco have been bad for multiple years now, so putting one in the bullpen for a while is probably the plan.
  10. Berrios has made three starts, and two of those were affected by poor weather. He's striking out well over a batter per inning. I think these are some facts also worth mentioning.
  11. Well first off, Kyle Gibson is still a ways away from coming back, so Berrios will have more than two more starts. He's had three starts (two of them affected by weather) where he's shown the great stuff that has made him so highly regarded, and he's dominated the upper minors. In my opinion, there's no way the Twins are going to leave Phil Hughes in the starting rotation to get hammered each time out and send down Berrios.
  12. You mean like Tommy Milone?
  13. Berrios has made 3 starts. As long as he pitches just ok, he will stay in the rotation. Like I said, the Twins aren't going to send down a top prospect to make room for Phil Hughes and Ricky Nolasco.
  14. Berrios is a top prospect in all of baseball, the Twins are terrible, and Phil Hughes has a 6.44 ERA. Last year, Pelfrey had around a 4 ERA in July when May was put in the bullpen. It's a totally different situation.
  15. So Ryan is going to demote a top prospect in favor of a veteran with a mid 6 ERA? That's not a very no BS move.
  16. Hughes relied on that fastball up in the zone. When it was sitting at 94, he could get a lot of pop ups and fly balls, with some strikeouts. At 90, it's getting squared up way more often.
  17. Ricky Nolasco has a 4.87 ERA and Phil Hughes has a 6.44 ERA. As long as Berrios and Duffey aren't terrible, they're staying.
  18. As long as Berrios pitches just ok or better, he's not going down. I'm sure the Twins realize Hughes is basically done as a starter and they're not going to send Berrios back down just so Nolasco has a spot.
  19. I just looked up Centeno's minor league numbers, and he's got 4 HRs in over 1600 PA. That's a little surprising. He's a solid overall hitter though, and I am looking forward to seeing what he does with this opportunity.
  20. I like the look of this lineup. Oswaldo Arcia 5 for 10 off of Bauer, with 4 HRs.
  21. An .887 OPS in 57 games in Fort Myers to finish 2013, then injuries killed 2014, and an .867 OPS between AA and AAA last year. Maybe not dominated, but just a notch below. I hope Buxton doesn't spend two more months in AAA. If he keeps hitting, I say call him up within the next few weeks.
  22. Not to get into the whole Alex Meyer thing again, but it's hard not to be optimistic about how he looked in his start. The stuff looked to be back up to where it was before the shoulder issues. The results were solid when you include the pop fly HR and the small strike zone he was dealing with.
  23. Jake Reed ended his streak of giving up at least 1 ER in each of his last 4 appearances. Yikes.
  24. I don't see Kyle Gibson as a veteran that Duffey and Berrios could lean on. Kyle hasn't shown he's much more than a back end starter up to this point.
  25. It was a calf strain. May has been healthy for basically his whole career other than that.
