  1. I'd rather go after a drug-violation culprit than a guy like Chapman - I know, innocent until proven guilty, etc., except this kind of stuff goes unpunished/unreported more than not. Who knows how many more incidents, somewhat less violent, checker this guy's past. There are actually good ballplayers that are nice to women: no need to add his "character" to the mix, win or lose. He reminds me of Patrick Kane of the Black Hawks: one incident after another.
  2. Agreed on both counts. I think some metrics are flat out bogus in terms of the game on the field, especially if they indicate that Dozier's play has become a dilemma of any sort.
  3. You gotta remember the Twins went shopping for Nolasco not all that long ago: he has also had injuries. To think they will just punt on him without giving him a full shot is not likely to happen. He has some believers in the organization, or they never would have given him a then record contract.
  4. Buxton, Buxton BUXTON!
  5. Why? Escobar is good. He can field and hit, and is still yet to be 27. Some teams get lucky with a Nomar or a Jeter, or even a Correa. EE can give you good production on a budget: if anything, the Twins should extend him for 5 yrs 15 mil.
  6. Sounds like a zero-sum game: "well, we weakened the rotation, but improved the bullpen." Trading your innings, strikeouts, and ERA leader from the previous season doesn't sound like a strategy for improvement, especially when was also your youngest starter.
  7. I think Abad will be good. Boshers - holy crap, would love a Boshers Twins jersey someday. That's why I'd never be a good GM: sucker for a good name.
  8. Sorry, as a Minnesota sports fan since my birth in the 60s, the Twins stand alone and the ONLY major men's pro sports team to win the big one, and they've done it twice. Vikings, Wolves, etc. will never hold a candle to that accomplishment until they deliver a championship. The Rockies? Let them bring home all the marbles once to compare them to the Twins: irony - they were founded the year of the last Twins championship. Don't mean to pick on ya Jimmer, even though it looks like it.
  9. Sounds like perhaps desperation in this kid's case. It is kind of sad the huge number of broken dreams across the baseball landscape, or any lucrative pro sport: lots of kids think it will be their meal-ticket, and their family's as well, and it doesn't work out. An attempt at a career in professional athletics, or a lottery ticket: which is the better investment?
  10. As long as he keeps moving up and raking, I don't care if the strikeouts stay the same. I am hoping when he repeats a level(hopefully (MLB), then we will see a drop in the Ks.
  11. How are you going to acquire said front end pitchers? Certainly not by trading a bunch of "back of the rotation guys."
  12. If they have value, they must be decent ballplayers. Maybe we should keep them.
  13. I still think that when ABW II gets to repeat a level, the pitch recognition will kick in and the Ks will come down to a managable level.
  14. If the Twins end up behind Chicago or Detroit next season, Eric Cartman will eat my underwear.
  15. And do you know for a fact that TR didn't reach out to any of these guys? Twins are just one of a large family of 30 siblings. I had a hard enough time getting heard as one of 6.
  16. Well, an injury to Nolasco (pretty sure to happen), a step back by Milone, and May will be on the front line again. We need one of those fireballers in the minors to step up.
  17. I think Rosario wil have a much better career than Hicks. The latter's hit tool vs. rightys will always be suspect
  18. Love to see people do good with their wealth and fame - that's why everyone still loves Dickens' Christmas Carol
  19. Like the looks of this prospect - Can't teach glove like he has, and the offense looks like it will come.
  20. Let's not forget Taylor Rogers, who turns 25 ... today. Happy birthday. He has the look of a prime LH pen guy sooner rather than later. What is the point of having a great farm system if you don't use it?
  21. Oooh la la the negativity. :shoot:
  22. Ryan is giving Molitor some options. I'm a lot like TR in that I like looking for bargains more than I like paying top dollar. Given the prospects the Twins have, I think this is a pretty good approach. BTW, I think Buxton will shock a lot of folks next season, i.e. all the hand-wringing over trading Hicks will seem laughable. Bold prediction, or is my crystal ball better than yours? We shall see.
  23. I have a french friend named Abad. Like signing just for that. Still, last year was a step back, but he still struck out almost a batter an inning, and gave up less than a hit per inning. These are the stone-age metrics I tabulate on my abacus, but over the years they've been reliable to me.
  24. I'm a sap for old-school values, but I think loyalty is an admirable quality, and I believe it can compensate for a lot of flashier qualities if accompanied by a modicum of wisdom.
  25. Really, I'd pay money for a book of actual scouting reports of players that made it, especially if they were Twins. We all know how pundits hit and miss, but pro scouts? Just amazing stuff.
