    Interesting read Parker - I can't think of a better use of team resources than player development, an area which has been kind of spotty for the Twins over the years. Hopefully it will bear fruit in the long term.

    The Twins top 3 all time save leaders are Nathan, Aguilera, and Guardado. None of them profiled as a closer when the Twins acquired them. It is within the realm of possibility that May, or Romero will follow a similar path. They certainly have the stuff to close.

    Just checking out the AL Central on Baseball Reference today, and there are 2 items that interested me: 1. From the Department of Selective Statistical Comparisons: Although there are some rumblings the Twins might give Cleveland a run for the money this season, In Kluber(5.9), Carrasco(3.9), Bauer(5.8), and Clevinger(5.2), they have 4 starters who met or far exceeded the Twins best in Berrios(3.9) in WAR. 2. From the Department of Contract Hell Detroit still has Cabrera on the hook for 5 more seasons at 30-32 million per year. He has -WAR over the last 2 seasons, and will be 36 in April. There are also 2 vesting options that could take him to age 42, but he would need to finish top 10 in MVP voting for them to vest. He'll have to battle his tail off to justify those salaries.

    Everything I'm seeing and reading on sites that are not Twins Daily think the Twins did quite well with this signing: I think I agree. Marwin is a pretty cool name as well.

    Came across this by happenstance, Mickey Mantle's 500th home run. What I found interesting: the Orioles had a shift on him, 3 guys on the right side of the infield. Had no idea the shift dated back to the 60s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioALzM98jaQ

    There are a number of names on the top 20 that reflect the new management's creativity in acquiring young talent: Severino: scoop up when others mess up. Enlow: work the bonus pool to get guys on day 2 that were otherwise college bound. Duran, Celestino, Alcala, Littel: good return at trade deadline. I think the farm will be rich as long as these guys are in charge. Hitting on your first 2 drafts doesn't hurt either.

    I was happy to read the other day that Jim "Kitty" Kaat will be joining Bremer in the booth this year on select Twins broadcasts. I used to enjoy his commentary back in the day.

    Charisma, joy, and love of the game make me think of a couple bald Gold-Glove Twin center fielders of yesteryear.

    This is the smart way to spend money - get guys on the way up for pennies on the dollar compared to big name free agents. 5 years of Kepler > 1 year of Harper, and >> than your average 30 year old 20 million dollar free agent.

    This is kind of a fun article to look at with respect to this thread, a review of the 2014 international signings class. Huascar Ynoa was the big fish, signed for 800K. The only thing exceptional about Graterol was that he barely made the age cut-off at 16. Seth asked the question whether it was better to go all in on one player for 3 million or get a bunch of players at 100K. Well, Graterol cost 150K.     Thing is they have access to sooooo much more and better information than we do, or at least I would hope so. Doubt Keith Law is must read for them. Hard to evaluate from the outside looking in.

    We'll have to wait and see how Rocco manages pitching - for Molly, that woulda been a win. A well-managed, competent pitching staff gives you the opportunity to have a deeper bench, which I would like.

    Said the old nurse. If there is an MLB team that has paid cash on concussions, it is the Twins: Koskie, Morneau, Mauer, perhaps Garver.

    If I were in charge, I'd hand him a standard contract with the years and dollars blank and ask him to fill it out to his liking and return it by the end of the day.

    People often point to Hicks as the comp, and perhaps correctly so. But it took him until 27 to become a solid player. Torii Hunter didn't light anything up until his age 25 season, then kaboom. Would much prefer to see Buxton follow 48's path.

    Twins drafted Jake Reed - Addison Reed is the one on the 40 man roster. He is still around though, afaik. There is also the OF Michael Reed who they claimed off waivers from Atlanta.

    And so the last best hope of the 2014 great reliever draft is gone: Burdi, Cederoth, Clay, Reed, Cutura, Steele, and now finally Curtiss. This draft now riding on the shoulders of Nick Gordon. Ironic that the only reliever to see significant time with the Twins from that draft was the 22nd rounder, Hildenberger.

    I remember following him as a prospect and thinking his name was pronounced CUD-dee-er. It wasn't until I heard Herb Carneal say Cu-DYE-er that I learned the true pronunciation. I was way more wrong with Mientkiewicz....
