    Stefon Diggs traded to Houston for a future 2nd rounder... the Bills wanted him gone so bad they took a big cap hit to do so. How long until Diggs wears out his welcome in Houston?

    The real issue has been that the majority of Austin Martin's minor league development has been spent at SS first and 2B second... just for the team to realize what was apparent on the scouting report when we acquired him, he is a butcher at SS and his home is likely in the outfield. So then they didn't give him very much OF experience, and that's how we got here.

    No-brainer move, my guess is he winds up getting a chance with the major league team.

    Is Austin Martin not an outfielder at this point? I don't get with the insistence with him focusing so much time at 2B. His likely home is in the outfield.

    You'd think so, unless suddenly Wallner is considered a better defender than Kepler? (It's probably due to fouling that ball off his foot)

    Man it is nice to have an ace starter. Looks like he is picking up where he left off.

    It'd be nice to see Burdi last a full season for once. We have his spiritual successor in Canterino, of the "flamethrowing reliever made of glass" archetype. Gil looked like he might last in the rotation after some nice starts in 2021, but since then he's had injury issues. Hard to believe he was traded for Cave a long while back.

    It's time to boot up the annual Roster Moves thread where roster moves involving the 40 man roster are posted, as a place to easily see what moves have happened recently. Feel free to post news here if nobody else has yet to share it - and try to keep discussion to a minimum, that's what the other threads are for. To start things off, Daniel Duarte is going to be added to the 40 man roster.

    Sands is on the 40 man roster and can throw multiple innings, that's why he's on the roster. Likely the first guy to be shipped to AAA when the need arises.

    Definitely not ideal to lose 3/5 of the team's top relievers. Hopefully we will get some of them back sooner than later.

    I'm not optimistic for Sands per se, but based on how much he was on the roster last year and how much Baldelli has said he wants length in the pen, it leads me to think he will spend quite a bit of time as the "clean-up" pitcher in the pen.

    I think that "long reliever" role will be used more this season given our starting pitchers (and how we are one injury away from SWR starting games), so my guess is Sands will be up on the roster more often than not. But he may start the season in AAA, but he will be part of the caravan going between the majors and minors.

    After what we saw last year, I think he can hang as a #5 starter. I don't have any hopes for him past that. I'm more afraid of what happens if any of the five get hurt, because there's a pretty big drop-off after that.

    More like Michael Vick - he was putting up big rushing yard numbers, but just wasn't cutting it as a passer. And looking back, I didn't realize Vick was as poor of a passer as he was (for that era). The dude came 2nd in MVP votes with a 14/12 TD/int ratio and 900 yards rushing. A 2025 6th - not even a 2024 6th! is certainly worth the price, but he was simply not a fit in O'Connell's scheme so they likely didn't make him an offer. I have no idea why Pickett and Ridder got more than he did, given what numbers they put up without being major rushing threats. Made Dobbs can get the Darnold treatment and get $10M on the open market next offseason, after we hear about how much he has progressed thanks to Shanahan.

    I think it's a solid group when it's in the context of the closer being hurt. Relievers are notoriously fickle and the wheels can fly off at any moment, but that is why I like how they added several this offseason. Gonzalez and Topa were considered to be more valuable at the time of the trade, so yeah, they mostly did. You say that as if a top 100 prospect doesn't have any value... now I'd prefer if they would trade a prospect or two for a starter but it's not as if all value from the trade is gone because of the injury, like the Mahle trade. The stupid part is that they didn't add any other starters with Gray and Maeda gone and they relied on an injury-prone DeScalfani to be in the rotation, but that's not necessarily a knock on the trade itself. More a knock on the overall strategy.

    DeScalfani was the third of four pieces of that trade, as Gonzalez and Topa were clearly the more value pieces of that trade. And how long do you think Polanco is going to last with his injury history? And with the bullpen injuries I'm glad we have Topa who held up in high leverage situations last year, at least they have Jax/Stewart/Topa at the back end of the pen which isn't shabby.

    I'd love to stash Clevinger at AAA, but seeing how he pitched last year I doubt he settles for that.

    So with those injuries, the bullpen appears to be Jax, Stewart, Topa, Okert, Jackson, Staumont... then Alcala, Funderburk? Or maybe Duarte or another non-roster invitee will take a spot. But with the 40 man roster full as far as I can tell, there isn't a ton of room to add more guys to the bullpen for a couple weeks without DFA'd someone.

    Herbert and Jefferson are not getting traded. Period. People are overreacting to the Chargers shedding cap and the Vikings moving on from Cousins and suddenly think they will be moved when there is no evidence to think so. Moving up to #5 with the Chargers could be realistic since they would much rather let the Vikings jump up there to take a QB (McCarthy?) rather than trading with division rivals Vegas and Denver, who are both rumored to be moving up. The big wildcard is NYG, who have reportedly want to find a successor to Daniel Jones ASAP.

    I believe part of it was due to CB depth, but also because Metellus was really good in the "third safety" role where he was essentially a 3rd LB in base formations and the slot CB in nickel packages. Smith is in his mid 30s, he's not as fast as he used to be and he apparently had a shoulder problem at the end of 2023, which hopefully explains why he looked terrible in the final few games. I was hoping they'd find a younger safety and for cheaper, but I am a huge fan of Smith so I hope he finishes his career on a strong note.

    I don't think Van Ginkel is going to be playing any off-ball LB, he is here to be an edge rusher. Ideally he'd be a rotational guy because his size makes him a target in the run game, but unless we spend #11 on a pass rusher he will be starting opposite Greenard.
