  1. Prelander Berroa… that’s a name I’ve not heard in some time. Well, not since talking about the Dyson trade. A week ago.
  2. I actually got to watch this game on TV! It's about dang time. Playing the White Sox feels like playing a minor league team. It doesn't feel right beating up on a squad that doesn't belong in MLB!
  3. I was very skeptical on Jax and thought his chances of becoming a quality reliever were low, but that’s why they have to shake the dice. No reason not to given the track record of AAAA started becoming great relievers.
  4. Yeah, perhaps. It's not like all of the power-first prospects fail but it took him until age 28 to break out. Rooker was a fairly highly regarded prospect whereas Severino has bounced around the #20-30 range in the organization. No reason to give up on him, but I remain skeptical.
  5. Farmer can at least handle SS and is trusted at 3B, two things that Severino can't do. As it was already mentioned, Diego Castillo got the call-up despite needing to open a 40 man spot when they could have just brought Severino up. He is a 1B type and I'm not sure if his bat will play in the majors. We've had plenty of back end of the top 30 prospects who could hit for power in AAA but couldn't do anything in the majors... I'd like to think Severino can be better than but I dunno. He is gonna strike out a lot, that is for sure.
  6. This move was necessary to get Dobnak onto the 40 man roster. Kirilloff hasn't played since June 11th, so we are already approaching the 60 day mark.
  7. I came here to post this, there were some offseason articles claiming that the "quantity over quality approach" was better for the bullpen, and yet Jackson and Staumont have failed despite being handed 40 man spots, Okert is questionable at best and de facto the team's best lefty, and Topa has yet to pitch. And they relied on Stewart who has a history of getting injured frequently. Yes, we know paying relievers is risky but this keeps happening every offseason - they skimp on relievers and have to patch things together midseason. Thankfully it's quite routine that young arms like Alcala and Sands emerge to patch the holes, but that doesn't justify the approach. I thought they would have learned from the season where their highest paid reliever was a 38 year old Joe Smith!
  8. I actually thought this was a good trade back in the day based on the way he was pitching, but the injury happened and basically nullified it. There weren't any red flags medically that we were aware of, so unlike some other pitchers they have traded for and immediately got hurt, I think this was plan old bad luck. Then that controversy came out and that was the end for him. Part of the dislike of the trade came from trading Jaylin Davis, who was killing it at AAA but in reality was a AAAA player and proved that. His 2019 season at AAA was bonkers, hitting .300, 35 HRs and just short of 1.000 OPS. Teng and Berroa have pitched in 2024 in the majors but are fringe guys, and were seen as mere lottery tickets at the point of the trade.
  9. I was comparing when we traded for Fulmer at the deadline, not him at this very moment. That was seen as a lesser move and only cost Sawyer-Gipson, this is… almost a DFA trade.
  10. 84 ERA+, -0.4 WAR… ugh. And not even a lefty. Was hoping for at least a Michael Fulmer level of reliever.
  11. Just saw that Tonkin is in the Yankees bullpen and pitching very well… not too long after we DFA’d him. Ugh.
  12. It would certainly not be a knee jerk reaction to improve the bullpen…
  13. At least get a reliever or two! We badly need a lefty we can trust with Thielbar cooked and Okert inconsistent, and who knows if Stewart will return to form (and stay healthy). They don't have to give up a whole lot to do that, prospect-wise or money-wise.
  14. It's incredible to me that they tried as hard as they could to have Martin be a SS when it was entirely apparent he couldn't handle it. Didn't have the arm nor the fielding ability, but that didn't stop them. His only true defensive home might be 2B.
  15. I was at a Saints game last week and realized that there were two Diego Castillos on the same team at once. MLB.com calls him "D. A. Castillo".
  16. As one who was attending the game in question, I can confirm Julien looked lost at the plate. Several swings and misses. I believe it was against Ken Giles he had an AB where he got mowed down in 3 pitches and did not look like a professional AB. Gotta hope this is like a Jose Miranda 2023 off year, but I don't know if he is hurt like Miranda was. The OBP is always going to be high, but he has to get the strikeout rate down.
  17. I was shocked when I saw that on Baseball Reference, I thought at first that was his brother Tylor but no, Trevor is back and putting up insane numbers. The Brewers have some magicians in their pitching staff.
  18. If Spotrac is to be believed, we have control of Lewis through 2028 (4 years of arbitration) and he hits free agency in the winter of 2028 and will be 30 in 2029. I've never one to jump at paying a player big money into their 30s, and while Lewis could be an exception given his talent... and then there are the injuries. If he were to hit FA around age 27-29, I would be more interested in an extension. Also given Boras being Royce's agent and Falvine's lack of a track record of signing extensions to players early in their career, I don't see it happening.
  19. I would have never guessed Vazquez would hit a walk-off HR on Hader!
  20. I was at the Saints game, unfortunately it was a clunker as the hitters stunk it up. I was wondering why Wallner wasn't in the lineup, and it wasn't until I saw the Transactions thread when I realized he was called up. Outside of the hitters unable to hit (Julien especially looked lost at the plate), there were two brutal errors - Chris Williams dropped a foul ball in LF to give Gwinnett a run, and Severino had one of the most embarrassing errors I've seen in a while at 1B, where he watched a slow roller bounce off the bag and get past him when he easily just could have gotten in front of it. Got to see Eddie Rosario play for Gwinnett. And I'm also surprised the teams only get 2 challenges using the automatic strike zone. Gwinnett used up both of their challenges by the third inning and didn't get to use any more.
  21. Nice rebound win, feels like its been a long time they've lost a series to an inferior team. Maeda has been pretty brutal for the Tigers, unfortunate to see but not super surprising. The dude is almost 37 now...
  22. Speaking of Joey Gallo, I saw he has a 43% strikeout rate. Maybe once he's healthy we can swing a deadline deal? 😆 It seems like the number of "uncompetitive" ABs have gone down as the season has progressed... though to be fair, since I can't watch games anymore I can't confirm this. But there seems to be less grumbling about it in the gameday threads.
  23. Gallo is on the 10 day IL, but you have to imagine he doesn't have much rope left once he returns.
  24. Polanco with the bunt single... gives me flashbacks of Paul Molitor asking him to bunt in the #3 hole. It comes back to haunt us again!!
  25. I just had a thought back to last year, where a lot of us complained about Correa in the clutch... I must say, he's taken a total 360 in those situations this year. And earning every penny of that contract.
