    Bell's OPS threatens to fall under .600 OPS... that good stretch of hitting from him the first two weeks of the year is firmly in the rearview mirror now.

    It would be funny if they spent money to lobby instead of spending money to make the team better... but I wouldn't put it past the Pohlads!

    I would have expected him to land something around $15M a year, given what other receivers got paid around that much in recent free agent markets. He would be WR1 on a team like the Dolphins or Raiders, so it's curious to see him sign for so cheap. This is the first I've heard about the drama Levi is sharing.

    It's a base $8M deal, which is very cheap for a receiver with the stats Jennings has put up the past two years. Add in that he's an elite run blocker, and he's a great fit as WR3. Ninja'd by Mike... seems like we are on the same wavelength!

    Seems to me like Klein going down is more about getting somebody fresh in the bullpen for tomorrow's game, not an indictment of him. He was the only guy who pitched today that has options, he'll be back. But it's hard to say anything positive about the unit... I like Morris' potential. Any updates on Laweryson or Acton?

    Can't remember the last game where we had made two outs at home in the first 3 innings...

    I don't get the point of pointing out how many games back of the division we are in May when so many games are left to be played, this division could still be won with 90-95 wins. That's irrelevant compared to the talent of this team, which would need to have a large haul of trades at the deadline to get anywhere near the conversation of winning playoff games. And we know that's not going to happen. Crawling into the playoffs at something like 83-81 is not a realistic goal, and would result in a very quick exit from the playoffs. But I agree that trading Ryan is suspect now that teams might not be willing to pay as much. Trading him while his stock is low would be rough. But we do need to wait to July to see how things pan out, for the most part teams aren't going to be discussing trades at this point in the year. Another reason why talking about the division is irrelevant.

    But the point that Gonzalez was the most valuable asset of the trade still has yet to be refuted, and despite him currently tanking at AAA, he has previously had some value as a prospect these past couple seasons that could have been cashed in for something. Penciling in DeScalfani for the #5 starter position was stupid on Falvey's part and trusting in Topa's health wasn't very bright either, poor management around a mediocre trade. But it's not close to Falvey's top 5 worst trades let alone the franchise's, heck, even the Brock Stewart trade was worse. Outman was an obvious bad asset, meanwhile at the very worst Gonzalez could have been part of a package to acquire a MLB-caliber player. And to be clear, I don't consider Santana as part of the move. But I'm still waiting to hear the explanation of why you consider Polanco to be "an asset" when he didn't produce for the Mariners and evidently didn't have that much trade value.

    Almost all of the younger pitchers on the team minus SWR are hitting or exceeding my expectations, the 4 relievers that are 32+ years old are the worst ones on the team. Until today, Ober's results have far exceeded my expectations for him... IMO the coaches are doing their jobs. They have the least talented group of veteran relievers in the league, that's not on them.

    Since the Spielman departure, this front office hasn't signed a single passable UDFA RB, I'm not even talking the best available, they just don't seem to care about the UDFA RBs. Which is fine since Claiborne and Scott are good enough for RB3/4, but it's strange when they've been willing to pay higher bonuses at all other positions. It would be great if we could find the next Birk or Sullivan, but this comparing current longshots to past ones frankly isn't relevant. I don't see any reason to be excited about Gerhardt other than the Vikings spent a 7th rounder on him, he didn't have particularly good PFF grades in his 4 years as a starter at Cincinnati. He's the same as any other UDFA center we've brought in after the draft and has quickly been forgotten. Josh Sokol, Jake Lacina, Matt Cindric, anyone? Not to mention the last 7th round project center in Michael Jurgens who seems to be getting cast aside... I didn't think he was draftable either but he was a better prospect and now has some NFL experience under his belt. Even if it isn't very good experience.

    Come on, they traded one year of Polanco who hit .213 (.651 OPS) and could have re-signed him after 2024 or 2025. As I said at the time of the trade, Gonzalez was the most valuable part of the trade and they could have chosen to use him as a trade chip (instead of continue to hoard OF prospects and not play them). We are talking about one year of control of turned out to be a 1.3 WAR 2B, it's hard for that to be a all-timer bad trade when we didn't give up very much.

    I stepped out for the last 45 minutes... and when I saw the score, I assumed the crooked number was from a position player of ours pitching the 8th. But no, this bullpen knows no bounds of incompetence!

    Geez, I didn't realize Bell was already down to .621 OPS. It's not shocking given he's a streaky hitter, but the highs were very high and the lows are bone dry.

    Culpepper is doing fine for his first shot at AAA, "worse than Arcia/Kreidler" is true but doesn't accurately describe how he's hitting. .822 OPS ain't bad for a 23 year old. Gabriel Gonzalez is the one who is impressing nobody, hitting .188 BA / .241 OBP is rough.

    Owens' profile is hilarious: The perfect combo, small and slow! They did this last year with a similar RB in Tre Stewart, who wasn't even good enough to see many carries during the preseason. I've seen a few people say that he is every bit the prospect that Jakobe Thomas (confusing names at the same position) is. I've also seen others claim that Jakobe Thomas is going to be a Day 1 starter... maybe let's pump the brakes on a late 3rd rounder who has 1 year of college experience starting Day 1 on the Flores defense. Kinda reminds me of people who claimed Tai Felton was going to push Nailor for the WR3 job. They've done this before, they probably gave this pick to one of the area scouts to take their favorite "diamond in the rough". Pretty similar process to how they took the current backup center Jurgens. I don't think Gerhardt is as good as some of the UDFA OL they signed like Delby Lemeiux, he's probably on the PS Week 1.

    Fangraphs shows that Mendez has been promoted to AAA, that would certainly be the reasonable move here. He's hit well enough at the AA level for a promotion regardless of injury.

    I took a look back to last year, Keaschall was first called up for Gasper's spot (who was optioned). Notably they had put Wallner on the IL the previous day in exchange for activating Bride.

    I'd keep Rojas on the starter track at AAA, no need to force him into a long relief role in the majors. He's already been aggressively promoted to AAA, give the kid some time. Just because the MLB squad is a disaster doesn't mean they should alter the plan on him. When it's a prospect like Andrew Morris or John Klein? Sure, move them to the pen and see what happens. Festa should return as a reliever. I haven't lost faith in Zebby as a starter quite yet, we need some options for starters because you know more injuries are coming to the rotation eventually. Maybe later in the season they can kick around moving him to the pen full-time if his numbers are a starter are still rough, but I think he's going to rebound from his current AAA stats.
