    They have warm bodies but there's plenty of room for a quality reliever. Have you seen what those guys fetch at the trade deadline? Lots of guys transition to being quailty relievers after failing as starters. The fact it would be happening at age 29 doesn't make it impossible Gibby would follow suit. The only reason it hasn't been tried is because the starting pitching situation has been so inept.

    Not to mention Berrios. He's got 60-odd starts in the minors. Thoroughly dominant. He's got nothing left to prove in AAA.

    Respectfully disagree. Yesterday was his 101st start, nothing he can do in 2 starts will move that mountain one way or the other IMO. He has all of 2 relief appearances since he became a pro- and you have to go back to 2012 in E-town for those. Seeing what he could do in that role would be 1000x time insightful. And all it would cost is Haley / Tonkin / Santana / take your pick. Easy call.

    I think we don't know the answers to all those questions yet. The hope would be that he adds a couple ticks to his fastball and strikes out opponents at a higher clip than he does as a starter. He has always been okay at getting hitters out the first time through. The second time is where he gets crushed.

    I was surprised too. Give it 10 minutes, if you don't like it, you won't like it. I thought it was the funniest comedy I'd watched in some time. Also it's set in the 90s with a lot of jokes about that era.

    As expected, Berrios is tearing up Rochester. 2 starts, 0.00 ERA, 7 hits, 1 walk, 13k's. Meanwhile Gibby had a laborious 5.1 IP start yesterday, throwing 88 pitches and allowing 11 baserunners. Gibby has always sprinkled in thunkers but they are becoming more frequent. Opponents OPS against him: 2014: .679 2015: .698 2016: .820 2017: .908 FIP: 2014: 3.80 2015: 3.96 2016: 4.70 2017: 6.74 Listening on the radio yesterday Provus was giving live Statcast readings and several of Cleveland's hits were scalded at over 100 mph. How much more of this do we need to see before making a move?

    With the game trending from 11 to 12 and now 13 pitchers, there are fewer opportunities to have a one and done pinch hitter in the NL. He'll have to be able to field a position, which Otani doesn't, I believe. Some AL team, the Yankees I would bet, will give him the DH spot, let him try to use the short porch, then carry essentially a 26th man for platooning with Hicks or wheover else.

    Thank you for posting this. I think this is a very typical at-bat in terms of how Joe is being attacked by opponents. Let's think about this logically. The outfield defense is shifted to the opposite field, aggressively. The assertion being made by Bleleven and others is Joe needs to counter-adjust by hitting the ball in the air to the pull side, particularly early in the count. Well, what does Covey do? He attacks him away, away, away for the first 5 pitches. If Joe or any other batter attempts to pull those balls, 9/10 times they will roll over them for a ground ball to the pull side. What is unique to Joe, and where I'm starting to come around a bit as a critic, is that with two strikes the pitcher comes inside. This would not happen with Sano or Dozier or most other hitters. I believe the situational zone charts will back this up. Perhaps Joe could do a better job looking to pull the ball when he is behind in the count, rather than inside-outing the pitch as he does here.

    I don't know if the goal was hard or soft but I do know we're down 2-0 (at home no less) to a lesser team coached by Mike Yeo which logically leads me to wonder if firing him was a terrible mistake.

    I just keep it easy- anything with a collar is a "dress shirt" yes even if its covered with White Sox logos. Any dress shirt can be worn to church btw.

    What's your PA cutoff? At fangraphs leaderboard he's 67th out of 173. Comparing to 3/4 hitters is irrelevant.
