    From what I gather, the status quo serves China and to a lesser extent Russia for reasons that aren't totally clear to me. But, if that's the case, then doesn't this call for a diplomatic solution? What if the US did something to instantly undercut the boogeyman narrative that is the basis for Un's nuclear ambitions?

    I worry that the entire industry, which has been following Greene since he was a grade schooler according to the SI piece, has some tunnel vision going on. Don't get me wrong, the velo is enticing and he seems like a high character kid but the amount of contact he allows just doesn't seem to warrant all the hyperbole IMHO.

    Yesterday on the radio Provus said a composite of outfielder throws using statcast data determined the Twins have the best outfield trio in Rosario - Buxton - Kepler by a combination of velocity and accuracy. I thought that was cool. He also said Buxton was number 2 in outfield SPEED (to Hamilton) but Kepler was #8 as well IIRC.

    I think it might be naive to suggest the region + the US would stand idly by were China to invade NK. There must be some benefit to the status quo we're not grasping.

    Have been mostly listening on the radio so can't really confirm but Gladden has been ripping one of the Twins scorekeepers as well. I distinctly recall Buxton's fourth(?) hit which Provus described live as a "routine" grounder to short, which was ruled an error. In another instance there was a borderline call and Gladden said "let me see who's keeping score today and I'll tell you whether it was a hit or an error." There doesn't seem to be much consistency.

    Is Pavin Smith even the best player on Virginia? His teammate Adam Haseley has more homers, more walks, runs faster, plays a more premium position (CF versus 1B). Smith does strikeout less, although Haseley is also very tough to strikeout (3.2% versus 7.8%).

    Its pretty clear he's up there hunting fastballs and he will whiff at offspeed stuff- if its executed just right. I haven't seen many swings and misses at offspeed stuff more than an inch or two off the plate (or fastballs for that matter). His eye is very good and overall I can't find much fault with his approach.

    The difference between Greene and Harper or Strasburg is that those two produced at rates supporting the hyporbolic language about their potential. Greene did not. If you think stats are meaningless, then this is entirely coincidental. I disagree.

    Dylan Bundy's senior year of high school he struck out 158 batters in 71 IP for a 20.0 K/9 Taillon: 114 in 62, a 16.5 K/9. Greene? 43 in 28 IP. 13.8 K/9. If he is a generational talent than he is a loooooong way from realizing that potential.

    Could very well be the case. I just don't think that means we automatically cut the guy.

    All I'm saying is its possible. He could be terrible, but we won't know until we try. Out of curiosity how long have you been a Twins fan? This team has a long history of turning sub-par starting pitchers into quality relievers. Perkins, Nathan, Guardado, Hawkins to name a few.
