  1. it would be hard to argue against that. It’s one reason why the Pohlads are nuts if they think we are going to thrive like the Rays or Cleveland with small payrolls. You have to have a top FO to pull that off. We do not have that.
  2. This is so true. It might have been TK that said the worst part of having a bad bullpen is how demoralizing it is to the team.
  3. The thing that comes to mind for me is the old saying about making chicken salad out of chicken***t. I thought maybe Rocco was going to use Varland for two innings but even that isn’t really a good second guess as Varland got lit up in the second inning of his last outing if I recall correctly.
  4. I guess RBIs do matter especially with two outs.
  5. Yep. The model doesn’t work anymore. The best solution in my opinion is to stream via mlb tv and sell over the air rights for one free game per week.
  6. This move pretty much sums up the Twins experience since the playoffs last year.
  7. Sometimes I don’t understand everything I know about that
  8. It’s not that complicated. 3 of their 5 starters are struggling and they get pulled for a bullpen that leads the league in inherited runners scoring. Their best hope is for the lineup to switch from famine to feast and just out score clubs.
  9. This. He gave up zero homers which was completely unsustainable. Regression is hitting him hard.
  10. People just got way ahead of themselves when it comes to Julien. His hot half season was on a babip of 372. The league hadn’t seen him and just needed time to adjust to him. He has two big problems: he is a one trick pony with the bat. The league adjusted and I don’t believe he have the tools to adjust back. Secondly he is so limited defensively that he will have to hit to a dh / 1st base level in order to play. I don’t think he can do that. Very few hitters can succeed when you swing and miss a lot. We might have one in Wallner. And don’t look now but Emma Rodriquez could easily end up being Julien.
  11. It’s not surprising that he is struggling with the bat. However I am pleasantly surprised at his work in the field. He’s made some mistakes primarily due to rushing plays but his arm is legit and can throw on the run and from different positions. He has soft hands and good instincts even playing three different positions. Assuming he hits he should be the third baseman for a long time.
  12. I noticed the similarities as well and let’s just say it’s not a warm fuzzy. If you swing and miss a lot it’s a problem unless you walk like crazy and have tons of power.
  13. Completely agree. People are comparing him to a ridiculous standard based on how lights out he was last year. More importantly the Twins defense is really bad. Rarely do they help the pitcher and frequently they hurt the pitcher.
  14. Obviously this philosophy has been researched and approved by the FO. My question is this: Sabermetrics has basically concluded that the overall goal on offense is to avoid making outs. You only get 27 of them so they are valuable to avoid. How does this square with such an aggressive send philosophy? You could make the argument that making an out at home plate is particularly hurtful to the offenses chances.
  15. I’m really thankful for the 10 runs. But how many center cut fastballs have we taken tonight? Apparently the analytics report must have said look for the breaking ball.
  16. Wow. Makes a difference when the fielders actually make plays.
  17. Agreed. Getting Correa back would really stabilize the infield which has been a problem. I also agree about not having enough arms. The young pitchers seem to be wearing down.
  18. Have specific players or Rocco actually said they are tired? Or is this somebody saying they look tired and now it’s become fact? Seems to me a more obvious reason is their two best players are hurt and / or they constructed a feast or famine lineup that is slumping badly.
  19. This. If they can win just a few games they are going to make. The other teams have to much ground to make up and too few games. Doesn’t make these last games any easier to take……
  20. Miranda made a couple really nice plays at third base. That’s all I got …..
  21. That’s my thought. Happens to young players all the time. Or maybe he is just in a slump - happens to all players.
