  1. Saw that. One obvious solution to the big league club in jeopardy. Same injury as last year.
  2. Does Bell have a chronic shoulder injury? When I first saw his underhand throwing I thought he was just messing around but I’ve not seen him throw overhand yet. That throw last night was ugly.
  3. I don’t think we have to worry about this. There is no way Jeffers will accept a deal the Twins are comfortable with. It’s just not a fit. I like Jeffers but, like many catchers, he is one dimensional. His just happens to be hitting whereas most catchers are glove first and can’t hit.
  4. That is a very under discussed aspect of competing with a limited payroll. You are going to have to be fundamentally sound to defeat greater talent. It also kind of confused me how sabr or analytics suggested avoiding outs is key when hitting. Wouldn’t it also, by extension, prioritize not giving away outs on the bases? Or giving the other team extra outs through sloppy play? Seems like only one side of the coin got attention for quite a while there.
  5. Fun game to watch as both starters were throwing strikes and working quickly. One positive I would like to point out (since I complained about it endlessly) is how much cleaner the Twins are playing. Mental mistakes are way down and they are being aggressive on the bases without running into outs. Many recent games where the other teams sloppy play was a major factor, not the Twins.
  6. Sure. Can’t miss the first hour - it still might be close. The Twins have had decent results against Gausman in the past. Almost like they had something on his splitter - no ody would swing at it. Will see if it carries over tonight.
  7. Pitchers pitched like this for a hundred years. You just have to accept that the outs are going to come in different ways. Induce weak contact early in counts - don’t get into drawn out ABs where the hitter gets comfortable. Of course when you are pitching like this it’s helpful to have infielders who can pick up a batted ball and throw it to first.
  8. Unfortunately I think this assessment is more accurate than the article. They will not make a move until they have reached their sample size requirement (whatever metric that is). It’s this decision making model that has resulted in the Twins hanging on to failed players far too long and our current roster is exhibit A. I don’t care about the strikeouts as much as others do because the power is there. Bottom line is he just doesn’t make contact enough, he’s a bad outfielder (his strong arm is deceiving because he is wildly inaccurate with his throws) and makes more than his share of baserunning mistakes. The downside risk of losing him is near nothing.
  9. Agree to disagree. For me, if a pitcher does contribute at the big league level, the reward is huge and not worth obtaining an asset that is readily available for cheap.
  10. I honestly don’t remember if Gil had potential or not. He obviously was a long way from the show. Philosophically I would never trade a pitcher with potential, even in the low minors, for a backup outfielder that are readily available for $2 million, maybe even free off the waiver wire.
  11. I’m happy for Varland. The Twins bullpen needs a lot more than Varland to be good.
  12. One thing about our bullpen, you never know who is going to blow it on any given day. Congratulations to Taj
  13. This loss epitomizes what many of us were expecting. Good starting pitching, feast or famine offense and a non-existent bullpen. TPs decision to try and win is looking pretty silly about now.
  14. Martins at bats are so much more competitive than a year ago.
  15. Only drawback is a guy could get winded running over to the next section to pick up the ball.
  16. I like the drone camera. It appears tickets are available.
  17. Is Mornie going to whine about the difficulty of hitting for the rest of the game?
  18. Interesting aspect of analytics- no more pitchouts. No way guys would run 0-2 in the “old days” due to threat of pitchout.
  19. This is spot on. If we are really trying to win these need to be made yesterday. One of the FO failings is the inability to make shorter term roster adjustments.
