  1. Here is what I don't like about all the discussions of Twins and advanced metrics: the assumption that the Twins aren't using them or are somehow too stupid to comprehend. I like all the information available about our favorite game. But its not all created equal. Some of it should be rightfully heeded and some rightfully ignored. That is the true key in this discussion.
  2. He should not stay if it means Arcia will DH. While I am not the biggest fan of Arcia, its still way too soon to turn him into a DH. The only way he will get better with the glove is to keep running him out there, at least for this year.
  3. It has been nice watching Hicks and Rosario catch some balls that weren't being caught before. This decision may not be coming as quickly as we think. On the radio yesterday, TR said that Arcia hasn't taken live BP yet and would likely need some rehab starts so Rosario will likely have another week or more to get the bat going.
  4. No worries, everybody. This will all sort itself out as out of all the guys being mentioned, we will be lucky to find 4 good MLB players to man the three outfield spots and DH. Its kind of naive to think few if any of these guys won't make it. That's why you cultivate a deep farm system so you can throw a whole bunch against the wall..... It might be an interesting thread to start the "Bust List" and people can lay odds on which of the "top" prospects flame out. I won't start that thread because I am enjoying the positivity of winning baseball too much.
  5. Here is the factor that is being underestimated in this conversation. Ervin Santana will come back and likely be our best pitcher (depending on whether Hughes sharpens up a bit). It will be a huge boost to add a pitcher that is better than anything we currently have and consequently dropping our 5th best starter.
  6. Great comparison - really sheds light on the disparity. I still think that his best role might be coming out of the pen. Ramp up the velocity even more and then throw them the split - when the hitters only see him once, I just bet he would be good.
  7. While I am advocating leaving him down for a little while longer, I do agree with you that there comes a point where you bring him up for an extended period of time and he just has to do it. If he can't cut it, then we switch to a stance of "he is what he is" and will serve as a 4th OF that can play all three positions.
  8. Yep, so when he has mastered AAA they should call him up. I guess I don't count a month as proof that he has it mastered or that he has nothing left to gain from playing in AAA.
  9. I withdraw July, meant to say June. I think the most important factor is having been around the league twice. If he handles the adjustments pitchers are making against him, that's the best gauge IMO. I also think the defensive part of his game needs to be in the equation. There is something of a myth out there that he is some elite fielder. He has the tools to be a great fielder but he is certainly not there now. I think this is very important because he wouldn't have to hit nearly as much if he becomes a great fielder. Long term, his best value to the Twins is a trade chip when Buxton is ready (which I don't think is going to be July BTW).
  10. It's not about the major league club it's about doing the right thing for Hicks which would be to let him master AAA.
  11. Not gonna happen. With his track record he needs to prove himself longer than one month. The Twins have screwed him up several times already. Let him prove it until July and then bring him up if he is still raking.
  12. I don't buy it. That was on Worley. The Twins blame was that there was no reason to give him away after he made it to Rochester.
  13. Wow, hunter, pelfrey and Suzuki all have big games. That's a veritable whos who of the hated on these boards.
  14. I think the next move will be calling Hicks up to the Twins with Buxton going to Rochester and seeing what he can do there. Wouldn't it be ironic if Hicks figures it out and we end up with two CFs after the years of nothing.
  15. This trade is starting to look pretty good for the Twins right now. It would have been downright lopsided if Worley could have figured it out sooner.
  16. I will repeat my expectations from spring training. Since they scored the 6th or 7th most runs in baseball last year with pretty much the same lineup back....and that their pitching is improved (even with E. Santana suspended) i think they hang right around 500 for the season. I actually like the way they are mixing in younger players to the mix while trying to win some games right now.
  17. Whatever the time line is, it needs to be about one thing and one thing only: what's right for Buxton's development, and nothing to do with what is going on with the Twins. I would think he would have to keep playing really well for a while yet before it would even be considered. And, I wouldn't be against him spending a little time in AAA as well. All to make sure that when he does come up, he is prepared as best he can be and not go back.
  18. I agree with letting Hicks stay on a roll. I think it is critical for him to keep it going in Rochester and really develop as much confidence as he can. At that point he comes up and doesn't go back. Who knows, maybe our outfield will be Rosario, Hicks and Hunter by mid - June.
  19. I think the splitter is really making a difference. He needed something to get batters off his fastball and he may have found it. I will take the great starts for as long as he can deliver them but I still think he could be really good in the pen.
  20. Should have put a smiley face behind it - just having fun. His success last summer was certainly unexpected so you may end up correct at the end of the day.........
  21. Well, if we are going to go with the young guys (which everyone seems to want) then you have to stick by them and give them some time. One month is a pretty short period of time when you are trying to figure out what the rest of the league is doing to you.
  22. Mike, I'm shocked that you are seeing this as glass half empty......
  23. Give him another 3-4 weeks to see if he can adjust to the pitchers adjustments. If he is still flailing then, then swap places with Pinto.
  24. Actually, pretty much. At least not players who you have a likely replacement for and are not the cornerstone of your team. I believe you have been a vocal proponent of not signing decline phase players, which is where he will be at that point.
