  1. Why wouldn't you trade Pelfry? He has no contract after this year and I think it can be safely assumed he's going to want to test the free-agent waters.
  2. I'm sorry, I watched the video and I don't get what all the fuss is about. He stood and watched his home run. So what. Major leaguers do it all the time. If it hurts the pitchers feelings than maybe he should try and get him out next time.
  3. TK doesn't belong in the booth, HE BELONGS IN THE DUGOUT! Seriously though, I know that's not going to happen. However, I have enjoyed having him fill in on occasion. He tends to drone on a bit at times, but you learn a lot about the game by listening to him. I think he could still be one helluva field manager. One thing I like about his broadcasting is that he's not afraid to dish out criticism where it's due. He calls out guys who have bad at bats or make bad plays in the field. He also starts discussion about things everyone is thinking about but no one will say publicy on the air. For instance, as much as I like Bert, do you think he would have publicly questioned Diamond's rotation spot like TK did today?
  4. I completely disagree. The All-Star game is for the fans, and there are fans in Minneapolis and Kansas City who love their teams just as much as fans in New York and Boston. We deserve to see our favorite players too. I remember staying up late when I was 10 to see if Twins representative Dave Engle would get into the game back in 1984 (he didn't). The fact that other more deserving players get crowded out has no real impact on the outcome of the game. The managers have difficulty getting everyone into the game as it is. We're talking about guys who may only come in as a late defensive replacement or pinch runner. I just don't get why this issue pops up every year. Allowing each team to have at least one representative is really not asking that much.
  5. I have no issue with sending any of those three down. Arcia has been a mess at the plate the last few weeks. He's still developing. Parmelee is the most disappointing of the three. We know he can hit, and the Twins gave him every opportunity to stay in the lineup. I haven't given up on him and still think he can be a really good big league hitter.
  6. Why wouldn't Plouffe be in their plans? This team is in desperate need of power from the right side. Plouffe has continued to get better over the last couple years. Don't get rid of him just when he's figuring things out and turning into a productive big league hitter. The Twins have had a lot of trouble finding an everyday 3rd baseman since Koskie. Don't give up on Plouffe!
  7. Anything short of finishing .500 and Gardenhire is gone. It's nothing against him or his style, but sometimes there just needs to be a change. They need to bring in a manager and coaching staff from outside the organization, who the players are not familiar with. Someone with no past beefs with any of the players, no predjudices, and no preconceived notions of who deserves to be on the 25 man roster and what their role on the team should be. The Twins need a new unbiased set of eyes. It will make everyone a little worried about their roster spots and maybe make them try harder.
  8. That happened over a week ago. Why is Gardenhire complaining about it now? Stop looking for scapegoats. A bruised Ryan Doumit does not fully account for the extremely poor quality baseball we've been seeing over the last couple weeks.
  9. What's really sad about the purge that occurred that year is that the Twins got absolutely nothing in return (ok...with the exception of Ron Coomer). Klingenbeck actually pitched a good game against the Twins right before the trade. The front office must have made their decision based on that one game. Unfortunately, it was probably the only quality start he ever made. That was a bad year for Terry Ryan.
  10. I've always liked Walters, but he hasn't done himself any favors lately. If they don't see him as being part of the long-term solution to the rotation, then it's probably time to set him free and see if anyone else is willing to give him a shot. The Twins have too many career minor leaguers hanging around just on the cusp (Deduno, DeVries, Albers, Hendriks....etc.). It's time to start making decisions on some of these guys.
  11. I'm sure the Twins would give away Pelfrey for "future considerations". Of course, I'm not sure anyone would be willing to pay that much. Correia is an interesting case. He's been our best starter (think about how sad that statement is), but it's probably true that his stock will never be higher than it is right now, and maybe the Twins should cash in. I'm opposed to trading Willingham and Morneau for reasons I've stated previously: a lack of right handed bats (Willingham) and the fact I don't see anyone who can replace Morneau's production. Plus he's a fan favorite, and that counts for something.
  12. Regarding Willingham and Morneau, I think one's opinion on their future with the team would be based on what you think this team's chances are in 2014. If you think this team has a legitimate shot at making a playoff run in 2014 (I admit I'm an optimist), then you have to keep both of them around. 1. Target Field favors right-handed pull hitters. They have one in Willingham for a reasonable price. 2. Are you convinced Parmelee can take over for Morneau and be as productive? I'm not. Not to mention Morneau is a fan favorite, and that counts for something. If he's willing to do a two year extension, I think the Twins have to give it serious thought. It's possible some of the younger guys could make Willingham and/or Morneau obsolete, but none of them has proven anything yet and it could be years before they're quality big league players. I don't think the fanbase is willing to be that patient.
  13. As someone who was at Nationals Park yesterday, I think the Twins owe an apology for embarrassing all the eager and excited Twins fans who showed up to watch 8 hours of truly pathetic baseball. Poor pitching....poor hitting....poor fielding.....poor managerial decisions....am I missing anything? A couple comments on the managerial decisions: 1. With a lineup as mediocre as the Twins, you really have only two decisions when filling out the lineup cards for a double header.....a) You can make your best hitters play in both games (after all, they are professional athletes), or you can Concede one game and put all your eggs in one basket. You don't do what Gardenhire did, which is split up a mediocre lineup to create two awful line-ups. 2. I remarked to my friend that walking Werth in the 5th to load the bases was a poor decision. Of course it blew up in their faces. Why would you want to load the bases when your starter is struggling? I could see if maybe the pitcher was up next, but it was Adam LaRoched. And it was only the fifth inning. At that point it should have been about damage control.
  14. Yeah, no objections to holding Meyer back. He's one of those guys who will dominate once his control and knowledge of the game improve. But he's not there yet.
  15. With the emergence of Thielbar, there really is no spot for Robertson unless someone gets hurt. I'm not gonna lose sleep over this one. Having someone like Thomas who can play all three outfield positions is more valuable to the Twins at this point.
  16. I concur with Linus. Pelfrey is not in the Twins long term plans and if he's not effective then they should consider sending him to Rochester or eating the rest of his contract and parting ways. It was an experiment that seems to be failing. It happens. Let's move on. Once they're healthy, we need to see what guys like DeVries and Deduno can do and whether we can count on them for the future.
  17. Correia's pitch count should have had little influence on the decision. He'd been through the KC lineup three times, sooner or later they were going to get to him. Combine that with his bad spring and the fact that Burton and Perkins have been solid in the pen so far, and there's no way he should have come out to pitch the 8th. I've tended to Gardenhire the benefit of the doubt in the past, but it seems like he's always pulling the wrong levers. Maybe he's just unlucky.
  18. I'd rather have seen them keep Walters instead of Roenicke or Robertson. Given the "uncertainy" around the starting rotation, I think they're going to need relievers who can go 3 or 4 innings and spot start. With exception of Duensing, I don't think anyone in the bullpen can fill that roll.
  19. There could be more openings after this year. If the chips don't fall right, both Willingham and Morneau may not be around after the season. Presumably this would force Parmelee to first, leaving the outfield wide open.
  20. I think his best bet is to sit tight and wait for an injury to occur on some contender. Someone will eventually be desperate enough to hand a bunch of money to Kyle Lohse.
  21. I was watching that same game with Luke Hughes and was wondering why the Twins don't give him a call. I know he had a lot of holes in his game, but I thought he was better than what they have now.
  22. I admit, he would add some fun to what otherwise could be a long year for this club. Down by a couple runs late in the game, there would be an adrenaline surge knowing we got big Jim on the bench if someone gets on. That said, I'm not sure how realistic it is to use up a roster spot for him. Like it or not, the Twins will take 3 catchers north. They aren't paying Butera $800K to sit in Rochester. That leaves the final 3 bench spots for 1 OF and 2 utility infielders. Given the new look outfield and the uncertainy in the infield, they're gonna want as much flexibility as possible. I don't see them giving up one of those bench spots to accomodate Thome.
  23. If Pressley impresses this spring, and they can't make a trade with the Red Sox, then the Twins would have to come up with a pretty good reason not to keep him on the roster. This team needs a miracle to make the playoffs, so they can afford to use a spot on the 25-man roster to stash away a rule 5 pick. Swarzak would probably clear waivers, and even if he doesn't, so what. Hopefully the Twins have seen enough to convince them there isn't much upside with him. Burnett is close to that point as well. Is Burnett better than the other options available to the Twins? I don't think so.
  24. I wouldn't shed a tear if they cut ties with Burnett and/or Swarzak and gave a shot to one of the new guys they acquired (Pressley, Roenicke, Wood). I assume you included Perez only because you believe Gardenhire will insist on another lefty.
  25. I concur in that I'm not sure what Carp brings to the organization. Even if Morneau is gone soon and Parmelee doesn't live up to expectations, the Twins organization has lots of 1B/RF types..... I don't see why they would want to clear a space on the roster for Carp.
