  1. I'm sorry, I've always been one that's patient with moves by the front office. I always tell myself they must know something we don't. They get paid to think this all through...etc... But over the last year I've become convinced they don't have the slightest clue what they're doing. We lost a game tonight because we had a shortstop in left field. We could have gotten back in the game yesterday had there been someone to pinch hit for Hermann in the 7th. Pelfrey???? Bartlett????? and now Matt Guerrier????? What role could Guerrier possibly play on this team? I liked him back in the day, and I'm sure he's a good guy, but he has done nothing to earn a spot on the 40-man. We need bats right now and their move is to clear a space on the 40-man for Matt Guerrier? This is embarassing.
  2. Thanks for passing this along. He's always been a great ambassador for the Twins and baseball in general.
  3. What happened to "no more scholarships"? We'd all like Bartlett to recapture the magic, but it's not happening. If they keep Bartlett and/or Kubel at the expense of Arcia then you really gotta wonder whether anyone in the front office has a plan. If this team is going to be competitive this year, they'll need Arcia to keep making progress. That can't happen if he's at Rochester, where he has nothing to prove.
  4. Just got back from Ft Myers last night. One piece of advice for those headed down in the coming weeks......if you go to a game in Port Charlotte, give yourseld plenty of time to get there. It's only about 30-40 miles from Ft Myer, but it's not close to the freeway and there are a LOT of stoplights along the way. I missed the opening pitch on Saturday.
  5. He is a Scott Boras client, so who knows if the mystery teams are real or just some kind of negotiating ploy. That said, if the money is right I wouldn't mind seeing him on a short term deal.
  6. More hot dog vendors in the stands! They keep pushing the beer because it makes them the most money, but when I want a hot dog I have to wait three innings and then waive my arms to the hot dog guy over in the next section.
  7. I think it's a fair question to ask, but I don't think the Twins had a choice. They are desperate for pitching and everyone knows it. And as mentioned above, they were going to have to overpay to get people to come pitch for a 90 loss team. Would I rather have Garza than Nolasco at that money? Sure, but there's still no guarantee Garza would have come here. And as far as the prices dropping on Jimenez and Santana....they're still holding out....so who knows. I'm sure the Twins made overtures to all these guys...but in the end we can't wait around forever.
  8. Nice post, but I would definitely have Meyer ahead of Stewart, if only because we know what we're getting with Meyer. Meyer can get big league hitters out and has the potential to be a true ace. Whether he can refine his control and stay healthy is another issue....but he has true big leauge stuff. Stewart is still an unknown. He's only had a limited number of innings at rookie ball. These high school arms are always such a crapshoot. Most of them never reach their expectations, which is why I prefer to wait at least another year before saying he's a better prospect than Meyer.
  9. I don't get this move from Detroit's perspective. I can understand maybe they want to get younger and clear salary room for extensions to Scherzer and Cabrera, but Fister was only set to make $8M this year and can't hit the free agent market until 2016. Also, they could've held onto Fister one more year, traded him next winter, and gotten essentially the same return.
  10. I see absolutely no reason to resign Pelfrey. Apart from the fact he was terrible in 2013, he doesn't project as a long-term solution to the rotation. Why not give Diamond and Worley another shot? Last year aside, they've shown they can get big league hitters out, and if they can get straightened out they would be under Twins control for a few more years. JUST SAY NO TO PELFREY!
  11. Does anyone know why Kepler and/or Vargas were added to the 40-man? I know they're considered good prospects, but neither one is close to being major league ready, and I don't see why anyone would select them in the Rule 5 draft and waste a space on their 25 man roster for either one of them.
  12. I think Mastroianni and Colabello would have a good shot at clearing waivers. Albers I'm not so sure about. There's always someone desperate enough to take a flyer on pitching.
  13. Once Nolasco is added, I count 11 starters on the 40 man roster, and that's not including Pressley, Swarzak, Duensing, or others mentioned as possible starters. It also doesn't include Meyer, who may need to be added at some point in 2014. I don't know how the Twins are going to have room for all of them and be able to get enough major league innings for the guys lacking experience. Would it be better to start cutting some of them loose now, so they have time to find another team? Any thoughts on who should be let go/traded?
  14. Tim Hudson got 2-years $23 million from the Giants. Why should the Twins give more to Arroyo? If they're going to focus on the 2nd tier pitchers, I'd rather they pursued Kazmir, Feldman, or Hughes.
  15. I just don't see how AJ would be a fit for the Twins. The Good: 1. Consistent offensive production. 2. Durable. 3. Entertaining. The Bad: 1. Left handed in a park that favors right handed hitters. 2. Never been a great catch and throw guy. That seems to be one of the main concerns about Pinto, so I'm not sure how AJ would bring added value in this area. 3. He would be a distraction. You know he'll tell anyone who'd listen that he's replacing the guy he got pushed aside for in 2004.
  16. Even in hindsight, the Smiley trade was the right move. Their window was closing and they needed to make one last playoff push before the core players were still productive. Neagle would not have made much difference in the mid-late 90's. Instead of a wretched team they would've only been really bad.
  17. I'm not willing to give up on Hendriks. There has been some flashes (albeit brief) where's he's shown he can get big league hitters out. When he's working quickly he seems to have a little extra zip and movement on his fastball. When men get on base he starts walking around the mound and overthinks things. The game just comes to a stop and things start to sprial out of control. But that said, he's only 24, and I think his problems can be fixed. If he has to pass through waivers to stay with the organization next year, than so be it. But if it's possible to keep him around, I think it might be worth it. By the way...still absolutely no love for Cole DeVries on these boards. I don't see why. I'm hoping he gets to make a couple starts before the season is over.
  18. Nice article, although Dakota Watts needs to be on this list. He dominated down the stretch.
  19. After looking at the full list, the ones who intrigue me the most in terms of quality and signability are Nolasco, Feldman, Kazmir, Hughes, and Vargas. I think the Twins should try and get at least one from that group and then add another filler from the Pelfry/Baker pile. Ultimately the problems with the starting pitching will need to be solved from within, so they need to keep enough spots in the rotation open to keep getting the younger guys experience.
  20. I hope none of the facility improvements worsen the parking situation. For well-attended spring training games the traffic congestion on the grounds is terrible. You need to get there early. If you leave your hotel only a half hour before game time you'll usually miss the opening pitch.
  21. It's nice to see Cole DeVries getting back in sync. I hope the Twins keep him around. He really stepped up for the major league club last year and he probably would've started the year in the rotation if not for his injury.
  22. Who is this Nishioka person mentioned in the article? I don't recall him ever playing for the Twins. It never happened. Let me repeat: IT NEVER HAPPENED!
  23. I was at the Rock Cats game in Bowie last night. Meyer looked like he could've gone a couple more innings (must've been on a pitch count). He did get helped out by a couple double plays and it seemed he had too many deep counts in the first couple innings, but overall he was very impressive. If he can stay healthy the sky's the limit. His stuff is nasty. His five strikeouts came in the span of six batters.
  24. Does anyone know if Alex Meyer is pitching tonight for NB? On their website they still list the starter as TBD.
  25. NB hasn't posted their starter for tonight's game yet. Meyer pitched in a GCL game on Monday, so i think it's unlikely he'll be going tonight. I'm going to try and get to one of the Bowie games as well. I thought about going tonight, but they're expecting big crowds to meet Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
