  1. I wonder if all these rumors about the White Sox interest in Wheeler is part of an effort to extract more money from the Twins.
  2. I would do 6/200 for Cole in a heartbeat, but there's no way that gets it done.
  3. If Hildenberger wasn't in their plans, they should have cut him loose sooner, so he had more time to work out his options.
  4. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/twins-non-tender-c-j-cron.html Hildenberger also non-tendered. I don't understand that one at all. He wasn't even arbitration eligible.
  5. I am surprised by this in light of the Moustakas contract. I think it's more likely that Sano will open the season at 3B. Maybe they want to clear a spot for an internal option (Rooker?). This can't only be about money. What's $7 million for a one year deal compared to the risk involved in what it would take to land Donaldson?
  6. Plus they probably wouldn't get much for him at his arbitration salary.
  7. I wonder if this makes it more likely the Twins keep Sano at 3b and roll with Cron at 1b. I guess we will know in a couple hours.
  8. Please no. Too many bad memories with those uniforms. Let's see, they finally ditched them in '87 and end up winning the World Series. Coincidence? Just walk away.
  9. Given all the teams looking for pitching the Twins will be lucky to come away with two mid-tier arms via free agency or trade. They need to keep all options open, including Gibson. Realistically, the Twins rotation will probably be Berrios, Dobnak, two via free agents or trades, and another internal option for the last spot.
  10. I would really be surprised if he accepted the QO. He had a career year and his stock may never be higher. With all the teams looking for pitching he should have no trouble getting at least 3 years/$45 million. And if he keeps putting up decent numbers he will still be young enough to get another big contract in a few years. On the other hand, if he accepts the QO and reverts to a back of the rotation starter he won't get much when he hits the market next year.
  11. I would be shocked if Odorizzi accepts the QO. He's been around long enough to know this may have been a career season and might be his one and only chance to cash in. I do think 3 years $36 million is on the low end. There's a lot of teams looking for pitching.
  12. Yeah, very odd move with Gonsalves. This is a team that is going to need starting pitching depth and he is not that far removed from being a top 5 prospect. I had not read anything to indicate that his arm issues were a long term problem, but of course we don't hear the full story.
  13. I think Rocco and his players saw the weather forecast and decided it was time to end the season and get back to their winter homes down south. They embarrassed themselves and their fans. I have been through many ups and downs with this team over the decades and I don't remember a time where they just completely laid down like this during a playoff series. Pathetic! I can't stand Rocco's press conferences. Say what you want about Gardy. At least he gave the impression he cared.

  15. Here's the difference between the Twins and the Yankees. To the Yankees and their fans, anything less than the world series is considered a failure, whereas most Twins players and fans appear content with a participation certificate. I'm sorry but it's true. It's not about talent. Position for position the Twins have just as much talent as the Yankees. Yes the Twins have some issues with their pitching, but so do the Yankees. This Yankees team was not on par with the the dynasty in the late 90's. Look no further than Saturdays game. After Berrios got pulled after a less than stellar outing everyone was hugging and smiling and patting him on the back as if he had pitched a 2 hit complete game shutout. Until the attitude and expectations of this organization change from the top down we will continue to witness playoff futility.
  16. Was anyone besides me confused as to why we paid an opposing pitcher $4 million to beat us last night?
  17. I agree 100 percent. There's no way the Dodgers were ever dealing exclusively with the Twins. They had to at least be putting feelers out on Forsythe, Kinsler, etc... They probably knew about what it was going to cost them to get Forsythe and weren't willing to go much higher than that for Dozier. I know some people see this as a missed opportunity to add some good young pitching, but Deleon straight up for Dozier is a trade the Twins just could not make. A one for one swap of an established all-star second baseman for a pitching prospect is just too risky. Plus, they can probably trade him at the trade deadline or next offseason and still get someone close to Deleon's caliber.
  18. Does anyone really believe the Rays are going to cut their former GM a good deal on Logan Forsythe?
  19. I'm starting to question how this entire situation has been handled by the Twins front office. Why are they taking so long to end this one way or another? This is becoming a large distraction. If in fact the Dodgers are only offering Deleon and some roster filler, then the two sides are too far apart to come to an agreement and talks should have been shut down weeks ago. Just tell everyone Dozier will be our opening day second baseman and move on. One more argument in favor of keeping Dozier.....keep in mind that it's not just two years of Dozier we'd be giving up, but also a compensation draft pick should he choose to walk when his contract is up.
  20. All good advice above, but if you know for sure which games you're going to, I would secure tickets before you go down there, either from the team website or Stubhub (although you'll pay big markups on Stubhub). The weekend tickets tend to sell out. Games on weekdays may sell out depending on who they're playing (Yankees, Red Sox etc...). Also, if you're spending the night in Ft Myers, be advised the hotel rooms along Daniels Pkwy may fill up with Twins and Red Sox fans. This didn't use to be a problem until the Red Sox opened Jet Blue park down the road. I've been going down there every year for 15-20 years. You will have an awesome time. I'm heading down there on opening weekend (Feb 24-26).
  21. Or the Tapani trade for that matter. Does anyone remember Jose Parra? ......anyone.........anyone? As far as all-time bad Twins it begins and ends with Nishioka. Not just for his poor play, but the money they paid for him and the JJ Hardy trade that cleared the way for his signing.
  22. I have been following this thread over the last couple weeks and don't have much new insight to add, but in the interest of piling on, I just want to vent and make two points..... 1. If LaVelle Neal's sources are correct, and the Dodgers are only offering DeLeon straight up, that is an insult, and if I were Falvey/Levine I wouldn't even engage in any further discussions until they make a more realistic offer. 2. Under no circumstances do the Twins "have to" trade Dozier. This team has some issues to work out, but there is talent on the 40-man roster, and I don't believe for a second that they have absolutely no chance of making the playoffs in the next two years. When this ship turns around it may happen quickly. And even if they don't get things turned around, watching Dozier for two more years will be worth more to the fans than a prospect who probably won't have any lasting value to the organization.
  23. For those wishing for a reunion with Denard Span, I think there is a 0.0001 percent chance of that happening. Can he even play cf anymore? He's 32 and recovering from hip surgery. I find it telling that the Nats wouldn't make him a qualifying offer. And from Span's point of view, this is probably his last chance at a multiyear deal, which I don't think would fit in with the Twins long run plans. I suspect the Twins will stay with their internal options.
  24. I hate this deal. I haven't posted in a while but hate this deal so much I need to vent.... 1. Power is not the Twins biggest problem. There are only two teams in all of baseball who had a worse OBP than the Twins. How is a guy who's never played MLB and is strikeout prone going to improve that? 2. If all they wanted was a power hitting DH type they have plenty of other cheaper options to choose from. Best case scenario, this guy hits .250 with 25 HRs. Not horrible, but Arcia can already do that for a fraction of the price. Morneau is also available and can also be had for a fraction of what they'll end up paying this guy over the course of several seasons. Worst case scenario is Park is a total bust and the Twins end up eating tens of millions of dollars. 3. Where are they going to play him? He's supposedly a decent fielding first baseman. Is he going to be happy in a DH role? I have really questioned the Twins roster management these last few years, and this deal just adds to my skepticism.
