Exactly, and most of them are in the AL central. If the Twins are still in the hunt at the deadline let’s hope a few more teams have dropped off. If not it’ll be slim pickings. Might be a fairly quiet deadline.
-
Take Clark at 5. Stock up on arms with the next 6-7 picks. If we’re taking arms then take Dollander or Lowder. I’m perfectly fine with those 2 at 5 as opposed to Meyer. As others said about a slot deal maybe. But there’s so much other talent at 5 that I’d prefer almost any of the other top 10 guys at this point.

Correa seems to be on to something. Buxton is hitting the ball hard most AB’s. Kiriloff had some solid hits and maybe out of his “mini” slump. If the big guns (I consider Kiriloff a big gun now) can keep doing what they’re doing and the other guys stay solid we’ll be in good shape. Just having good at bats and not striking out so much is huge! Getting a guy over, putting the ball in play. As much as it pains me old school Twins baseball. It’s what we need right now.

There’s a lot of factors at play here. If we do any worse than we are right now by the deadline we need to find a suitor for Gray for sure. If we can get anything for next year and beyond we make those marginal moves as well. Solano, Castro, Taylor? If we do the same or start getting on a roll we just tweak things. We have gotta get Kepler and Gallo out of this lineup! I’m not sure but maybe we get someone on the fringes. I’m just spit balling but for some reason I keep thinking what could a trade for Charlie Blackmon and either Daniel Bard/Brad Hand bring us? Chuck nasty seems to be that older professional type hitter from the left side that may help. Contract expires after this year. Then one of Hand or Bard? Professional bullpen guy. Maybe just needs a change of scenery. An old school Twins move. Bring upWallner and/or Larnach and between those 3 see who sticks as our LH compliment to Correa and Buxton. Get rid of the 2 ankle weights in this offense and plug in a few lefties. If there’s any professional/veteran hitters that could come cheap to replace chucky I’m all ears but it needs to be a subtle cheap move to boost the left side of the plate and a complimentary bullpen piece. I was very encouraged last night to see the big 8th inning we had that relied on singles and walks instead of 5 run homers! Correa’s 4 hits! We strung together an inning and played a decent game. Against KC but at least we looked decent in most of the at bats.

Love the article! With that being said this horse is beat to death dang near. Let’s see what this looks like in a few years shall we. The Twins have always been in search of pitching. I don’t see this as being a problem of trading Arraez for Lopez. The writing was on the wall. Arraez has bad knees, had no position and I think the trade was more trying to find value in a guy at the right time to obtain a guy who stabilized a position that was our downfall for so many years. What did everyone here see from Arraez in 2-3 years? A guy who’s knees probably relegated him to DH? Position inflexibility? A guy who logjams the best position to “try out” these hitting prospects we have coming through (Lewis at the time, Julien, Lee)? I remember the clamoring going on here and now we have the hangover from what we all wanted because Arraez is doing better in this one season since what we wanted to happen. We all saw this coming. All I’m saying is we traded from a position of strength and got something we needed. SP stabilization. Let’s just see how it plays out in year 2-?.

Nygaard Mock Draft v. 2.0
TNtwins85 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
I would have to agree on Teel. Maybe he becomes a solid backstop or even an all star backstop. His pedigree is good and I like that in a player almost more than the analytics sometimes. But when there is star power available at the 5th pick in a 5 tool player you’ve gotta go that route. If Clark is as good as advertised then we have a CFer in 3 years who’s got the ability to take over games. If the Twins are gonna draft out of the 2nd tier of players we should take Lowder and plug him into the rotation by the middle to end of next year. A solid 3 maybe even a 2 for the next 6 years. Idk, my opinion but if one of Langford, Jenkins or Clark is available we just need to not overthink this pick and just go with the star power that’s available. Lol- 31 replies

Nygaard Mock Draft v. 2.0
TNtwins85 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
Jeffers? Granted he’s not a superstar but a 2nd round pick I believe that’s a reach at the time is up and contributing in 2 years is a win. But to your point that’s one of many reaches they’ve made that we’re still waiting on.- 31 replies

Nygaard Mock Draft v. 2.0
TNtwins85 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
No way Clark drops that far. I don’t think we should take a pitcher that high put we really need to if there’s any chance of ace material there which dollander might be with some professional coaching. My thoughts are if Max Clark is there at 5 you take him. Historically catchers taken that high don’t seem to become the studs they’re made out to be once they reach the majors. If he was a Joe Mauer type then sure but Teel isn’t even in the same universe. Especially when you literally win the lottery and nab the 5th pick.- 31 replies

Kepler and gallo need to go. Neither one seems to want to get better as they just seem to be mimicking who they truly are. Waller can improve and has it in him to get hot and go streaking. Larnach is the type of player I see as wanting to really keep improving. I think he’s got a bad taste in his mouth after the last demotion and has got to the point where he either improves exponentially or just is who he is. I want to see who he is. Give him the at bats!
-
Exactly! I’m not sure what the cards are looking for but surely we can make a package! The big thing is getting Kepler and gallo out of there. Home runs are great but when there’s no one on and we’re only getting 1 run every 15 AB’s or when there is and they’re striking out and killing innings on 3 pitches it’s demoralizing for momentum and morale.

We’ve done pretty well against the teams we typically struggle against. If we can get a bat to get this offense going and maybe another bullpen guy I think we have something. This pitching staff has done what you have to do against the top teams for the most part. After 2 bad seasons and the division up for grabs to whoever can play .500 plus ball I think you’ve gotta go for it. If we keep waiting for prospects we’ll forever be waiting for prospects. The postseason is all about momentum and a few lucky breaks along the way. This pitching staff has that “it” factor. We just need to score more than 2 runs in a game.

What Happens to the Twins Emerging Star?
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Why would we trade proven guys just to give opportunities for unproven guys? It sets a bad example for signing future solid free agents and trading Donaldson sets a bad example for a guy like Buxton by telling him we’re not gonna even try anytime soon. The more guys we have as depth the better if we’ve learned anything this year. The more major league hitters we have the better as well. Why let one guy go just to try and get a different guy of the same caliber? I’m not getting the reasoning- 52 replies

Ok, and we’re gonna demonize him in this space? A baseball blog? Are you really gonna be that guy in this space? Cause you’re proving to be “that guy!” The guy who brings in political arguments to a sports blog space and then you virtue signal that you’re doing it for “everyone else.” Give me a break bro! Go watch cnn and keep your BS out of this space. For the good of everyone who loves baseball and wants to talk baseball. Your taking a stance that’s just legitimizing yourself for everyone else to know who you are rather than even thinking about that the player may have a reason. Or an opinion. Basing on stats that because this guy said something controversial to your opinion he should lose his job? It’s no different than cancelling someone for saying something contrary to what you think. This is a terrible topic to post on here as it was libel to cause people with no brain to add charged subject material into a conversation regardless the player’s character. So how about we stop being terrible people and just stop this thread from going any further? Or are we gonna be those people?

I believe Simmons is a great role model for his years in baseball, his defensive prowess, and he seems like a guy who has added stability at SS. Something we haven’t seen in years. Even with his comments it is his opinion and even in these times he has a right to voice his concerns about a product which failed him. I’m sure he’s disappointed that a product that was spread as a cure all has now prevented him from being a worthwhile member to the team at this point and has become a detriment and he doesn’t want to be the guy. His demeanor on the field shows that he loves the game regardless of his stats and that is the type of character the twins should welcome. It sounds like he got the vaccine and still contacted the variant which is seeming to be a nationwide problem. Instead of politicizing this we should welcome this. He is voicing his opinion and is obviously disheartened by this being the competitor that he is. People should speak out. It’s everyone’s right and instead of being ostracized we should listen. Simmons is a ball player. He feels sorry. But it’s not his fault. He’s a ball player. He’s trying his best and he still does pretty good defensively. I just hate where this topic is going and wanted to add this as andrelton Simmons is not the enemy. He’s a Twin. That is what we are here to talk about. I can believe he’s added a lot to this team and I’m not gonna look at the X’s and O’s Of this. Let’s talk baseball. Eh?
-
Maybe this is satire. Maybe not. But I think this is a very disingenuous article not meant to be in this blog about baseball. Whether he is good or not does it really matter? Anti vax? Vaccinated? Who cares. I want to hear about legitimate baseball. These are highly politicized terms that mean nothing in this space. Or shouldn’t mean anything in this space. Or really others for that reason other than medical journals. In this day in age of cancel culture and censoring, taking political stances in a baseball blog and delegitimization of people based on baseball stats and baseball production seems icky. Why this is even tolerated in this space makes me want to walk away. No reason to get into these topics on here. This is supposed to be a place to get away. Devoid of political theatre. A place for enjoyment. If we’re gonna be doing this here then I guess this place is destined to become espn.com. Maybe that’s the goal? There’s already enough ad pop ups for it.

I loved the pick of petty!!! His swag, confidence, high energy, high upside, electric arm! Everything! He’s the antithesis of everything about the TR years and the epitome of the very thing going forward! He’s got 2 mlb pitches right now it looks like. If he can clean up his delivery and add an average changeup(or splitter) he’s got the stuff to move fast and be a legit #1 or #2

Trio Hinting at Twins Pitching Pipeline
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would agree with you on most of this. I’m of the camp that every 1st round pick should be a high ceiling type of pitcher. I was dissatisfied with drafting sabato last year when there were hs arms available. This year I think we should have taken another HS pitcher instead of Noah Miller. I’m in the same camp as you pretty much. I only disagreed with the fact that you’re saying they haven’t developed one yet this year. I don’t know where the #1 was coming from this year in general as there wasn’t one to develop this year in the mlb that is. As far as drafting and signing high upside arms early and often. I think the twins should draft high upside arms with the first 3 picks every year. How do you increase your chance of winning the lottery? You buy lots of tickets!- 40 replies

Trio Hinting at Twins Pitching Pipeline
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How do you develop #1, #2 types up to the majors when they are not to that point yet? Falvine and Co. are just supposed to take ober, Jax, beau f’n burrows and make them into aces? Come on man. Stop being so negative. Takes years to develop a prospect. Also with a whole lost season. Really?- 40 replies

In Defense of the Twins Front Office
TNtwins85 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, when you lose a full season of development you’re probably gonna lose a year of development. It’s amazing our prospects are where they are at this point. How long did we let TR kick the can down the road with his old school thinking when Oakland and Boston were heavy in metrics in the early 2000’s? Give it another 3-5 years to let the system come through then judge. I do get annoyed and think TR is like the wizard of oz when we’re signing the happs and shoemakers of the world. And it seems gardy is on the bench giving Derek law and beau burrows innings. I think that’s just how baseball is because every team does that. I think people get stuck in an echo chamber when it comes to their teams. I think we’re getting there though. Give it time. Let their “recruiting” classes become upperclassmen and then decide whether the plan succeeded or failed. Let’s just hope they don’t draft a 1B or corner OF with the top 10 pick they’re getting next year. Unless he’s the next spencer torkelson. The system has changed a few mediocre draftees into fieldable players. Let’s get a few more through and see what happens -
I’m still trying to figure out why the twins drafted sabato. He had better start drawing lots of walks and lots of dingers so we can package him in a trade for a pitcher! Haha

Top 5 Picks for the Twins to Target in the 2022 Draft
TNtwins85 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
And he’ll probably be there at 5 since it sounds like he’s not going back to Vanderbilt. I’d take rocker if he’s there. Like gunnarthor said I’d probably take the top college pitcher that’s available. No more OFs unless he has true Buxton potential. Same with SS. If he’s not a lock to stick take the pitcher instead.- 14 replies

Four Players the Twins Could Trade This Winter
TNtwins85 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let’s claim we are competing in 2022. As said by twins brass. If that is to happen and we’re not looking at 2025 we need to not trade anyone. We resign almost everyone and bring in one of Stroman, Rodriguez. We also bring in one of Kershaw, Scherzer. Now we’re not looking for these guys to bring in cy young potential but cy young/winning/competitor pedigree( Nelson Cruz a few years ago). In fill the bullpen with your young guns. Guys with stuff and something to prove. Enough of Derek law, Derek coulombe, Luke Ferrell, Shaun Anderson. We don’t want these guys anymore. Give Rocco a veteran/ old school baseball mind bench coach. Not a Derek law Shaun Anderson equivalent bench coach.build a team to be hard nosed and compete on the field. Not on a piece of paper. Then, see what happens! We’re the underdog again. Surprise someone again!- 43 replies

The Twins Bought Low on Austin Martin
TNtwins85 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Before the pandemic hit last year I had the chance to drive down the road to Hawkins field and watch the commodores. This guy looked like a man among boys which judging by his stats to start the season he truly was! This guy is gonna be an OBP machine. On a team of elite players in the country he was by far the best player. No questions. He’s gonna be fine and I can’t wait for him to get the call because he’s a gamer for sure! He’s calm in the box. You can tell he’s got a plan. He was watching the pitcher intently in the on deck circle. He worked the count and when he got his pitch which he knew was coming he attacked the pitchAnd barreled it! He looked like a right handed Mauer in the box. In his prime that is. That kind of hitter! In college!
