75 Options the Minnesota Twins Could Trade For

This was a conversation between myself and terredactyls. So to your point there was exactly 2 people talking about this. 2 more people than you claimed there was. Follow the thread before becoming an instant expert maybe.- 42 replies

75 Options the Minnesota Twins Could Trade For
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Love!!! I said this the other day in a different thread. Bellinger is the perfect move for this team! Reverse split LH bat. Power. Can play multiple positions. Former MVP. Youngish. Rental. Checks all the boxes and can probably be had for a prospect or 2 that’s not in your top 5-10. Bellinger and a LH reliever and let it ride. About all we can do- 42 replies

I’d agree wholeheartedly! Unless we’re tearing it all down or going all in we don’t have the capital to make any big moves. Improve on the fringes and cross your fingers.- 42 replies

75 Options the Minnesota Twins Could Trade For
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree. It’s a great year to be a seller for sure. Gotta really have faith in your scouting department to evaluate the guys to go for and even then the most sure prospects are not slam dunks in the end. I’m not sure the FO is willing to put their jobs on the line at this point and pin everything on next year when you have this pitching staff. Also, second half of the year may not be pretty for this pitching staff when a lot of these guys have never thrown that many innings. I think they should plan on next year but that’s putting a lot of faith on next year is all I’m saying, and I don’t see Falvine doing that.- 42 replies

75 Options the Minnesota Twins Could Trade For
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They weren’t very conservative last year which is why I think they keep preaching the mantra of waiting for these guys to get hot and don’t say they’re gonna be making changes. I think they’re kinda keeping they’re hand hidden a little bit and if we’re still in this spot at the deadline we see some minor moves for a bat or two. Maybe a bullpen piece. If we’re not in it and they fall flat on they’re face come august I think they’ll trade Gray and any other future FA’s after this year. That’s it though I believe. They’re not rebuilding and they’re not trading any pitchers other than Gray.- 42 replies

75 Options the Minnesota Twins Could Trade For
TNtwins85 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So trade our pitchers for prospects? Trade Kiriloff, Kepler, Solano, Castro, and Jeffers for prospects and hope in 2-3 years? Those guys and our pitchers are all I see that anybody would give us anything for. I might be for that if we won 50% of those trades over the long term. Gotta sell that plan to the season ticket holders though.- 42 replies

Are we just gonna constantly wait for prospects? I get what you’re saying but when you have an elite pitching staff that’s what carry’s you in the playoffs. Trust me I get it. This isn’t close to a juggernaut team. If we had 2 more elite hitters in this lineup then that would be another story. But where are we getting those pieces at as far as prospect returns that will be ready next year? How do we get those returns? Who in this organization are we trading to become a monster team next year? This isn’t MLB The Show or OOTP where you just trade everybody for anybody. There’s so much more that goes into a team than what you see on TV. I’d love to build the ‘98 Yankees but we don’t have the capital in the majors or minors to even come close. So we blow it up and wait 5 years to MAYBE have a juggernaut team? I get it I really do. It’s so very frustrating to watch this team but this is such a sad and tired reductionist statement that gets said here too much. How about we stop beating this dead horse. Throw it in the hole, sprinkle some dirt and say some words. After that let’s come up with some constructive ways to improve this year and not waste this pitching staff.- 42 replies

An ugly win for sure but a win. Buxton does look lost. I believe what someone else here said. DL him and let Julien hit. He’s the hot hand of late. Better at bats of late it seemed like. Are we in agreement that Correa has come around? He’s getting hits. He’s not red hot but he doesn’t look lost like a lot of others. Only problem is he’s batting lead off and no one else is hitting. We’re going to get to a point here where we need 2 more guys to hit behind him. Kiriloff is cold and not barreling it up. The Oakland pitcher was terrible and we missed opportunities once again. This lineup cannot rely on Castro anymore. He was hot but has gone cold it seems lately. Gallo delivered tonight but he’s due to go 0-15 with 12 K’s until the next one. Maeda struggled but the bullpen picked him up. Are we gonna wait 2 weeks to go get another professional hitter? Probably gonna be a up and down 2 weeks. First game back. Looked a bit better but we NEED one more guy. When the FO realizes this it may be too late.

I get all that and it would be nice to get something for him for sure. I think the book has been written and 3rd time is the charm. Everybody sees what he has become and I just don’t see anyone wanting him at this point. We can’t wait 2 more weeks just to get a prospect. We need to do something now. DFA him. Wash your hands and go forward.
-
DFA Gallo. Package Kepler and a few prospects together that help the cubs for Bellinger who happens to have reverse splits which would be a huge difference from Kepler. Call up Wallner and Larnach. Play them somewhere everyday rotating with Kiriloff, Bellinger, MAT. If they go cold bring in Austin Martin. Keep rotating guys if they’re not hitting. If they are keep them in. Simple. Get a shutdown LH for the bullpen. Let it ride. Either get the champagne ready at the end of the season or the guillotine. Not drastic but a nudge for sure. Let’s us see a couple of guys and what they bring while also cutting out the fat.
-
Agreed. We’re not a team trying to develop anyone here. This isn’t 2016 and before. We are a win now team and if the results aren’t there someone needs to be plugged into that spot and be able to perform. If Gallo needs to be dfa’d to make that happen then so be it. Players need to perform and if they don’t then they are trade bait. Austin Martin, Wallner, Larnach, Whoever. If they’re not tearing the cover off the ball in AAA or Mlb then we need to get someone that is at this point. Plain and simple. If Wallner is hitting then he needs to be in the lineup. I don’t understand what this front office is waiting for. We’re now in second place and this season is looking more and more like 2022 than 2019 or 2020.

Is Popkins Next Firing in MLB Coaches Mid-Season
TNtwins85 replied to Dave Borton's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I doubt they’ll do anything but a message needs to be sent. Popkins has to be gone before the next series if they’re gonna do anything. The message needs to be sent and with popkins being fired all of a sudden everyone including Rocco has to feel they’re on the hot seat. I don’t believe Falvey or Levine will be fired but if they fail to do anything about this situation and this season continues as it has that in and of itself should put them on the hot seat. The Yankees went with Sean Casey to come in. There’s gotta be someone roaming around Target field. Morneau? Molitor? Torii? Cuddyer? Maybe super Joe can come to the rescue and save the season. Anyone at this point just to bring a new message and perspective. A firing needs to happen and maybe even a move at this point. -
If we’re not gonna trade anyone or add any hitters these so called “professionals” need to put down their ego’s and start playing smallball. Trying to generate walks. Bunting for hits. Sacrifice bunts. Squeeze plays. Hit the runner over by just putting the ball in play away from the runner. I was watching the Pirates and Diamondbacks yesterday after switching the game from the horrific 15-2 drubbing. In the early innings the pirates hitter bunted the guy to 2nd. The next batter clearly stuck his bat out to hit it to the second baseman getting the runner to 3rd. Next guy glued out I believe but deep enough to score the runner. In the bottom half Corbin Carroll bunted Marte over to third after a double. Corbin Carroll… the Allstar hitter. That put Marte at 3rd with one out. Guess what, he scored on the next at bat I believe. Why are we not trying this brand of baseball at all? Ego? Idk anymore. Tough to watch professional hitters be as clueless as ours are. After the closed door meeting it seems we’re out of options and something drastic needs to happen.

I’m of the same thinking here. Swing for the stars! I wouldn’t be disappointed at all if Jacob Gonzalez became a star and Jenkins doesn’t. As long as we went for it when we had a shot. I was never upset over kohl Stewart. I was only upset at how we handled him in the minors and majors. But at least we went for it when we had the shot.
-
Exactly! I really hope they don’t get cute with this pick. If any of these top 5 are there regardless if they are college or HS they’ve gotta take them! Unless it’s one of dollander or Lowder. Royce seems to be a good player but still waiting on that cost savings that went to Landon Leach and Blayne Enlow to come to fruition. I know 20/20 hindsight but let’s just take one of those top 5-8 guys and move on to the next pick please.
-
Exactly, and most of them are in the AL central. If the Twins are still in the hunt at the deadline let’s hope a few more teams have dropped off. If not it’ll be slim pickings. Might be a fairly quiet deadline.
-
Take Clark at 5. Stock up on arms with the next 6-7 picks. If we’re taking arms then take Dollander or Lowder. I’m perfectly fine with those 2 at 5 as opposed to Meyer. As others said about a slot deal maybe. But there’s so much other talent at 5 that I’d prefer almost any of the other top 10 guys at this point.

Correa seems to be on to something. Buxton is hitting the ball hard most AB’s. Kiriloff had some solid hits and maybe out of his “mini” slump. If the big guns (I consider Kiriloff a big gun now) can keep doing what they’re doing and the other guys stay solid we’ll be in good shape. Just having good at bats and not striking out so much is huge! Getting a guy over, putting the ball in play. As much as it pains me old school Twins baseball. It’s what we need right now.

There’s a lot of factors at play here. If we do any worse than we are right now by the deadline we need to find a suitor for Gray for sure. If we can get anything for next year and beyond we make those marginal moves as well. Solano, Castro, Taylor? If we do the same or start getting on a roll we just tweak things. We have gotta get Kepler and Gallo out of this lineup! I’m not sure but maybe we get someone on the fringes. I’m just spit balling but for some reason I keep thinking what could a trade for Charlie Blackmon and either Daniel Bard/Brad Hand bring us? Chuck nasty seems to be that older professional type hitter from the left side that may help. Contract expires after this year. Then one of Hand or Bard? Professional bullpen guy. Maybe just needs a change of scenery. An old school Twins move. Bring upWallner and/or Larnach and between those 3 see who sticks as our LH compliment to Correa and Buxton. Get rid of the 2 ankle weights in this offense and plug in a few lefties. If there’s any professional/veteran hitters that could come cheap to replace chucky I’m all ears but it needs to be a subtle cheap move to boost the left side of the plate and a complimentary bullpen piece. I was very encouraged last night to see the big 8th inning we had that relied on singles and walks instead of 5 run homers! Correa’s 4 hits! We strung together an inning and played a decent game. Against KC but at least we looked decent in most of the at bats.

Love the article! With that being said this horse is beat to death dang near. Let’s see what this looks like in a few years shall we. The Twins have always been in search of pitching. I don’t see this as being a problem of trading Arraez for Lopez. The writing was on the wall. Arraez has bad knees, had no position and I think the trade was more trying to find value in a guy at the right time to obtain a guy who stabilized a position that was our downfall for so many years. What did everyone here see from Arraez in 2-3 years? A guy who’s knees probably relegated him to DH? Position inflexibility? A guy who logjams the best position to “try out” these hitting prospects we have coming through (Lewis at the time, Julien, Lee)? I remember the clamoring going on here and now we have the hangover from what we all wanted because Arraez is doing better in this one season since what we wanted to happen. We all saw this coming. All I’m saying is we traded from a position of strength and got something we needed. SP stabilization. Let’s just see how it plays out in year 2-?.

Nygaard Mock Draft v. 2.0
TNtwins85 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
I would have to agree on Teel. Maybe he becomes a solid backstop or even an all star backstop. His pedigree is good and I like that in a player almost more than the analytics sometimes. But when there is star power available at the 5th pick in a 5 tool player you’ve gotta go that route. If Clark is as good as advertised then we have a CFer in 3 years who’s got the ability to take over games. If the Twins are gonna draft out of the 2nd tier of players we should take Lowder and plug him into the rotation by the middle to end of next year. A solid 3 maybe even a 2 for the next 6 years. Idk, my opinion but if one of Langford, Jenkins or Clark is available we just need to not overthink this pick and just go with the star power that’s available. Lol- 31 replies

TNtwins85 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
Jeffers? Granted he’s not a superstar but a 2nd round pick I believe that’s a reach at the time is up and contributing in 2 years is a win. But to your point that’s one of many reaches they’ve made that we’re still waiting on.- 31 replies

Nygaard Mock Draft v. 2.0
TNtwins85 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
No way Clark drops that far. I don’t think we should take a pitcher that high put we really need to if there’s any chance of ace material there which dollander might be with some professional coaching. My thoughts are if Max Clark is there at 5 you take him. Historically catchers taken that high don’t seem to become the studs they’re made out to be once they reach the majors. If he was a Joe Mauer type then sure but Teel isn’t even in the same universe. Especially when you literally win the lottery and nab the 5th pick.- 31 replies

Kepler and gallo need to go. Neither one seems to want to get better as they just seem to be mimicking who they truly are. Waller can improve and has it in him to get hot and go streaking. Larnach is the type of player I see as wanting to really keep improving. I think he’s got a bad taste in his mouth after the last demotion and has got to the point where he either improves exponentially or just is who he is. I want to see who he is. Give him the at bats!
-
Exactly! I’m not sure what the cards are looking for but surely we can make a package! The big thing is getting Kepler and gallo out of there. Home runs are great but when there’s no one on and we’re only getting 1 run every 15 AB’s or when there is and they’re striking out and killing innings on 3 pitches it’s demoralizing for momentum and morale.
