Who Can the Twins Deal?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One could argue the Twins surplus is injured minor league pitchers.? The only player IMO that makes sense to trade is Arraez, because the only minor league position player ready to help next year (again IMO) is Miranda and I think he should be a back up plan to start the year and maybe the same with Laranch. If Lewis sees the majors next year it will be because either he is playing so good that he has to be brought up or plan A, B and C fell though and he is forced to be brought up based on being on the 40. Martin should be close to the same. If I am the Twins I am looking at trading Duran or maybe SWR with a Sabato or Strotman in a Odo or Maeda type trade.- 74 replies

Grading Rocco Baldelli’s First Losing Season
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Exactly, he has been making the same in game decision mistakes since he got here He got bailed out by a team that set the homer record in 2019 and a division that had two teams lose 100 games., how hard is it to win a division when you have 5 guys hit over 30 homers, 7 hit over 20, 11 hit over 10. Odo started the way he did, He again got bailed out in 20202, by a short season and another starting pitcher off to an amazing start. 2021 he didn't have an lineup going crazy or a amazing pitcher, basically everything that could go wrong from the players did, and he still made the same crappy in game decisions. Not blaming this on Rocco, but it is really hard watching baseball when a left handed batter walks up to the plate and the whole left side of the infield is open and that player doesn't even attempt to go the opposite way, -
Grading Rocco Baldelli’s First Losing Season

I give Rocco a F, I thought he was bad when the team was winning the last few years, and I think he is still bad during this season. -
What Happens to the Twins Emerging Star?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
So am I understanding correctly, The Twins should trade a 3B with a 3.2 WAR in in 132 games, and 3.6 in 160 games and eat millions and millions of dollars , for salary relief and hand a spot to rookie 3B?- 52 replies

3 Twins Players Set to Bounce Back in 2022
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gordon has played 43 innings at Short inthe majors, and IMO has don't anywhere near enough to warrant a starting SS job in the majors. I am not even convinced he has done enough to earn the back up role, IMO he has done enough to be considered the back up plan at the back up role. Palacios next year, could be the back up to the back up plan and nothing more, no major league team should ever be starting a 25 year non prospect coming out of AA at SS, EVER! As much as some people might want Polanco at SS, the FO doesn't seem to want that. I like Ray, to me Duffy and Pineda are about the same, you can expect them to miss starts but for the most part be decent. I don't like the idea of going into next year with two injury prone vets, and three unknowns. But that is just me.- 35 replies

3 Twins Players Set to Bounce Back in 2022
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If I was running the team Gordon would start the year in AAA, Polanco at 2B, and I would be looking to trade Arraez, if I can't trade him, he is my back up at 2B, 3B, LF, and DH.- 35 replies

3 Twins Players Set to Bounce Back in 2022
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit with those options at short. A 32 year old, who has never played in the bigs, Gordon who they don't trust there in a lost season. Palacios a 25 year old in AA, Polanco who should be a second baseman and a Lewis who hasn't played a game in two years coming off an ACL.- 35 replies

If you want to say the front office has done a terrible job in general with trades, you will not get an argument from me. I was just looking at this trade by itself, because the topic was who won the Jake Cave/Luis Gil trade, and IMO I can't say how any trade where one teams gets more major league WAR over the other team getting 25 innings pitched years later goes to the 25 innings pitched team, not at this point anyway, maybe next year Gil turns into a reliable relief pitcher or even better than that, then the Yanks probably win the trade, but I would make that type of trade every time, The twins signed him in 2015 and they just now would be getting a guy to the majors that twice hasn't been drafted in rule 5. compared to a guy that has already had two decent or better years in the majors, a OK year, and a terrible year.
-
Because for every Gil or Ynoa, there are dozens of others that fail, Stewart, Jay, Gonzo, Romero, Meyer, and on and on and on. If you are a contending team and there is a player you think could help you win, you can trade those young pitchers because the odds of them becoming even a fairly reliable relief pitcher so super low. Now I am not saying you trade a Chase Perry to another team because they are having a hard time finding a 40 man spot for, but do I trade Perry for the right controllable pitcher, yup. Remember when people on here were complaining or worried about trading Chih-Wei Hu after his first 10 innings in TB?
-
So only trade minor league pitchers that have proven they aren't what you are looking for (not sure that is how to get decent players from other team trading for your garbage) Not sure what Ynoa has to do with a Gil/Cave trade, unless your are saying this FO shouldn't have a job, there are a bunch of other threads complaining about them. (also Littell was a huge part of a division championship, Ynoa has less than 100 MLB innings, lets see how that works out) I will say this is the kind of trade the Twins need to do the opposite way, when you have a 40 man crunch you trade for a young high end prospect. (That is one of the reasons the Rays gave up Strotman) I wasn't afraid when the Twins traded Gil, and I am not worried going forward they traded him, if he turns out to be a star, good for him, the FO did something they needed to do, and that was upgrade the major league team.
-
The Cave that had a WAR of 1.5 in 2018 in 91 games, the Cave that had a .9 WAR in 72 games, even last year had a .3 in 42 games. That is better than replacement level. Wade played some in 19 and 20 in was negative in the WAR or 0. I am not a really a fan of Cave, but he played a role in two divisions champions that was statistically better than replacement. From what I can tell I can't find a prospect list that had him even in the top 50 for the Twins prior to being traded. He has walked 165 guys in 284 minor league innings, he has walked 15 in his first 25 major league innings. This year e pitched in AA started 7 games for 30 innings with 13 walks, lots of K's and a decent 3.23 ERA. He started in AAA 10 times and pitched in 11 games, 46.1, 28 walks with a 4.66 ERA. If these aren't the type of pitchers you trade, who the heck can you trade and expect to get anything back for.
-
The Twins got 3 years of plus WAR, while winning two Division titles. The Yanks have gotten 25 MLB innings. As of today it isn't even close the Twins have won the first 3 years, this year is a draw unless Gill continues to pitch well. Going forward is more than likely the Yanks, but it is the kind of trade you do when you are trying to win.

Game Score: Royals 5, Twins 3
TwinsDr2021 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was surprised to see that Do-Hyoung Park didn't tweet out that Ober extended his less than 3 earned runs to 10 games. But the writer of the article did and he actually got the number wrong. I will say this again, I like Ober and think he has a real chance to be a major league starter but saying he had a strong performance is ridiculous, his ERA for this game was 6.24 and you don't get to take out the first six batters There were definitely things to like in his last two starts, 0 walks, 10 K's in 8 innings, and 11 hits in those innings are good as well. Hopefully next year he can deeper into games and these results translate in another inning or three. IMO any starting pitcher that pitches 5 or less innings and gives up more than 2 earned runs should not be considered a good start.- 8 replies

Which Prospect Anchors 2022's Rotation?
TwinsDr2021 commented on bean5302's blog entry in Shallow Thoughts - bean5302
Winder has pitched 72 innings this yer, 0 in 2020, 125.2 in 2019, and a combined 123.2 in 2018. Expecting him next year to pitch anything more than about 100 is unrealistic, plus the odds are he will start in AAA next year, so my expectation of him are hopefully next year will be this years Ober. 20 -25 starts combined averaging 5 innings per start. -
Game Score: Minnesota 5, Cleveland 2
TwinsDr2021 replied to Nate Palmer's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Man it is sad how far the Twins have fallen that actual reportrts find this to be big news "Bailey Ober has now allowed 3 or fewer earned runs in 9 consecutive starts." When out of those 9 starts, twice were 4 innings starts, and has averaged 5.07 innings in those starts, don't get me wrong I love what he has done, and I totally get the inning and pitch count stuff, but come on. Compare what he has done to say Robby Ray in the last 8 games, Never more than 2 earned runs, while never pitching less than 6 innings, once finishing 8, 3 times finishing 7, three 6, and lastly 6.2. It is sad we have this to get excited about.- 26 replies

Minor League Report 9/4 Simeon Woods Richardson Debuts
TwinsDr2021 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I was hoping Winder would get up this year, so maybe he could help next year, but I don't see him being a very viable option for next year (at least the first half) if he doesn't pitch again this year. -
Personally if they want to go young pitchers, they for sure will have to sign some one year vets to fill innings, currently I have seen the names of around 15 rookie (or Jax, Ober, Dodnak) names mentioned, can a major league team really carry 15 rookie type starting pitchers on their 40 man? Seems unlikely, sure some will get hurt, but that mean other retreads or rookies filling in. And then why sign Buxton over the winter, because if these pitchers don't pan out, what good is he to have around on a rebuild? what if the likes of Balazovi,c, Duran, Strotman, Ryan, etc.. have years like Ober had this year, does that guarantee anything for 2023? To me, it means we have some good depth and can sign a high end Free Agent but it kind of makes 2023 a crap shoot also, but I think they can sign a free agent this year. To me this off season and 2022 will show if this FO is around in 2023, I hope Rocco is gone after this season, but that is another topic.
-
If the FO feels 2022 is a development year, what good is paying Donaldson 21 million each of the next two years, Sano 9.25 next year with an option for 14 million in 2023 which it sounds like there is no chance of picking up. Also we love to talk about trading people at their peak on TD, Will Polanco's peak be any higher than this off season? Also, I say good luck to the Pohlad's with fans in the stands next year, especially if Buxton is not extended.

The question I would have and you didn't address, was. You have told us your plan the last few years was sustained success, now you are coming to me with a plan for sustained success in the future. You asked us to spend 92 million on Donaldson, 6.25 on Colume, 30 million on Sano, 2 on Shoemaker and 8 on Happ to get us though this year, and you traded our best pitching prospect (Graterol) for a veteran pitcher. The only unexpected things that happened this year that affects next year are: Maeda is lost for next year and some of the prospects got hurt that you thought MIGHT be able to help us next year. What happens next year if Winder, Duran, Balazovic, Strotman, Woods Richardson, Ober and others get hurt again or aren't as good as you are expecting? Are you going to come to me next year and tell me you need punt on 2023? If 2022 is a more than likely a lost year and 2023 is based on prospects, why not cut my loses and trade Donaldson, Sano, Kepler and Polanco. The only one of that group that has a contract for 2024 is Kepler?

Did you see the post I was responding to? It said "it's going to be a lost year. " And I said "If the FO thinks this way", I didn't say I thought it was a lost year and I don't believe it should be. And if they think 2022 is a lost year and time to get all the prospects up, then they wouldn't have sustained success, that would be two lost years, and if those prospects don't turn out as advertised, 2023 and beyond could be lost as well. But if your opinion is go cheap next year because the year is lost, and don't think they should trade everybody, that's great because it is your opinion, I wouldn't call you simplistic or crude. Missed this the first time I posted. I said "put a contending team on the field consistently" and you turned that into "put a contending team on the field every year". In my simplistic/crude mind: put a contending team on the field consistently = sustained success

If the FO thinks this way, they should trade everybody possible on the team. Kepler, Garver, Sano, Donaldson, Polanco, Arreaz, all of them and start over, second they should come out publicly and admit they were wrong in their ability to put a contending team on the field consistently (that is what they promised was it not?)

Who Will Be the Twins Top Prospect in 2023?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I thought AK had his surgery in 17, spent 18 in A and A+, 19 in AA, and was called up 9/2020? Sano had his in 14 and was called up from AA in 15, after 66 games and hitting .269, with 18 doubles and 15 homers with a .918 OPS. Sano and AK were far superior hitting prospects to Lewis, Lewis career minor league OPS is .740, Sano's .932, and AK .869. So unless Royce comes back and does stuff he never has done in the minors or continues to absolutely rake like he did in the fall league I don't see he coming up next year, on top of playing great defense, which could be hard playing SS after coming back from TJ. IMO I guess if the FO totally blows a back up plan for the outfield, Lewis could be forced to come up and play OF since his will be on the 40.- 27 replies

To me it is Ober and it really isn't close. 5 starts, 3 of them he started pitching the 6th inning, two of them he completed the 6th, and all of them finished 5 innings. Something he has not been able to prior to August. He has learned to get more out of his 70/80 pitches as the season has went on.
