  1. the question is - Can Marco Raya Help the Minnesota Twins Bullpen This Season? my question is, is he even helping the Saints at this point? If you started 10 games and average less than 3 innings per start, you are terrible or not really a starter.
  2. what would it cost to get Alcantara at this point? he has been bad but imagine what this staff could do to develop him the next year and a half and if not don't pick up his option in 27. Sure it will cost around 27 million the next year and a half, but .....
  3. Two reactions to this, so there really is no pipeline? and second just what the Twin fans need, another reason to tune out, watching a bunch of relief pitchers trying to win games is not entertaining.
  4. Bailey Ober wasn't really brought along like this, 2018 (first year in the minors) he had 14 starts and 75 innings (over 5 1/3 innings per start) 2019 he pitched in 14 games, 13 starts and was given 78.2 innings No 2020 2021 4/16 in AAA, then 20/92.22 (reduced below 5 per start, but every year since he improved until this year it has dropped a bit but plenty of time to get it back up)
  5. They put up a stat last night on TV that SWR has been on the least effective starters in baseball in terms of IP per start, when you have that stat you should be prepared to pull that guy in a sign of trouble and have a guy ready that can go a couple of innings. Wallner's solo homer was nice, but I would give that up for a single in the 4th when the game was still close.
  6. I really like Wallner and IMO he is one of the best left handed hitters against right handed pitchers in the whole league. And when he is facing a middle of the road right handed relief pitcher I except results (and get them most of the time) But lets hold off on the last paragraph, he isn't a world class hitter, yet. He has done amazing against left handed pitchers in 13 PA's this year, he has been dreadful against them in the past. So before calling him a world class hitter lets see how he does against lefties and what he can do over a full year ( he has never played more than 76 games and if he plays in the rest this year will only get to 122. But like I said above there aren't too many guys in the majors I want batting instead of him against a right handed relief pitcher, but there are dozens I would choose over him against a lefty. So lets go Wallner finish this year super strong and come out next year like a MVP candidate.
  7. The old guys do nothing for me, they are doing what they need to be doing just to say in baseball. The Diaw kid impresses me and hope he keeps it up and can catch.
  8. (This is not meant as a complaint, just an observation and what I heard this weekend from Drew MacPhail) They seem to be limiting the innings and exposure to get better results and keep them healthy, but it hard to envision this guys as top end big league starters when they aren't given the chance in the minors to work though seeing guys multiple times. Soto, Prielipp and Hill do seem like they have some impressive stuff. Seems like Jackson Jobe was treated pretty similar and he seems to run the pitch count up pretty quickly limiting his depth into games (we will see how it goes, Good Luck young men)
  9. On the radio yesterday (I believe, could have been Saturday) they interviewed Drew MacPhail (Director, Player Development) and he said the Twins (don't remember which minor league team) they are trying out pitching on 1 day less rest and pitching less innings (but more overall innings) per game and only seeing the lineup once, said it was better for health and development and hoped to see it happen in the majors. He said their minor league pitchers were actually pitching more innings that way instead of the normal 4 days rest. He said that is what they had been doing with Adams. In theory that sounds like a solid plan, but in reality doesn't seem like a good way to make major league pitchers happy, since IMO it would reduce their overall earning potential. But with the injuries to Lopez and Matthews it would not surprise me if they implemented in some fashion going forward.
  10. My comment had nothing to do with Jeffers, but you are saying that he is good enough to be a starter at the age of 35 after being below replacement the last two years? remember the original comment was "8 to 10 million depending on his season with the bat , but for his defense alone , sign him for 6 million" That is a whole lot different than signing him to a minimal contract to a be a leader and a back up catcher, that I might be able to along with. The guy has two good seasons and a couple decent seasons and will be 35 in August. His career WAR is 6.5, Jeffers has basically put that since Vazquez got here.
  11. What are we the Yanks or Dodgers? signing a back up catcher to that kind of contract. Signing him turned out to be a bad signing, don't make it worse by doubling down.
  12. Congrats for these guys but wouldn't it be nice to see some of the Twins younger prospects doing so well they force their way onto the list. (Yes Hill, Morris, Jones and Lee are 23 or less but those haven't been that great and/or haven't pitched much innings)
  13. Should be 0% chance, he just ended the month too bad .279/.362/.623/.985 with 10 extra base hits compared to Judge .364/.453/.798/1.251 with 19 extra base hits or Ramirez .386/.451/.634/1.085 with 14 extra base hits or Raleigh .304/.430/.739/1.169 with 16 extra base hits or Devers .356/.468/.606/1.074 with 12 extra base hits With that said he had a darn good month in lines with Holiday, Butler, Ward, Vargas, Witt, Lowe, Pena and others. If Clemens could be someplace between with the way he started and ended the month and his hot streak that would be wonderful.
  14. Well he is 5 years younger, and one could say the Twins choose the wrong pitcher? Honest question would the Twins be OK with his 14 BB in 28.2 innings and he has only been give 8 saves chances and blew 2 of them (maybe that has to with how bad Miami is?)
  15. When did Kody rake in AAA, he hasn't played AAA this year. He had a .937 OPS in AAA in 2023 and a .644 in the majors, Last year .811 in AAA and .706 in the majors. And yes Clemens had an amazing week plus, but since has came back to earth 1/13 or 2/17 or 3/19 or or 4/22 or 5/26 after starting 2/15 So could Gasper do this, not if starts 2/15 like Kody did and Kody isn't hitting .250.
  16. and what do these two and MAGA media have to do with the bill or the Twins sale? I tend to agree with Major league Ready - " Keep in mind these expenses are deducted from revenue to determine taxable income. Then, they get a bonus deduction. It's simply not fair. " I will add two things, if this was passed in the last budget the people not liking it would be OK with it and the other side would be against it And like others have said most of this article could have been left out and basically said on page 966 of the the bill being debated the bill reads a “Limitation on Amortization of Certain Sports Franchises.” The clause replaces language in the current tax code, reducing “the adjusted basis” of various team assets from 100% to “50 percent.” As the New York Times reports, those assets “include player contracts, media rights and sponsorships … Under the House plan, team owners would be able to deduct from their taxes only half the value of those intangible assets over that period.” To put it plainly, many teams would be accepting a much higher bill than any cuts they might get. This could affect the sale of the twins what are you thoughts on the ramifications of this?
  17. Really? Does a 29 year old raking really in AAA translate to the majors?
  18. Can we stop comparing players that aren't similar? Ventura went 8/45 as a 21 year old and by the time he was in his age 28 season had over 30 career WAR. Hunter went 4/17 as a 22 year old and was winning gold gloves and MVP votes by age 25. Keirsey turns 28 next week and so far is 4/42 in his career with zero walks, he isn't a major league starter, he is what he is and that is the last man on a active roster,
  19. and yet Ramirez stole second on a pitch out and was trying for third on the winning hit. (Bader did look like a slipped a bit)
  20. No serious team thinks hey lets put Gasner at DH and lead him off, and just for sihts and giggles lets also play Keirsay today.
  21. Back to Doom and gloom? after winning 4 in row they lose a tough 2 - 1, I didn't watch it but both teams threw less than 130 pitches and only gave up 13 hits and 3 walks combined. I am not taking anything away from this game except; damn looks like it was a tough night for hitters (both teams). Lets see how the next two games go, they weren't going to sweep them and 2 - 2 or better was and is a win for this series,
  22. Not to take anything away from Keaschall, but the second steal last night was an absolute must have, before the first pitch to the batter the pitcher had used both of his disengagements, so you have to go on the first move.
  23. Is it time to put Festa in the pen? He looks like an ace for 4 innings and then things fall apart. It also seems unfair not to mention the horrible play by LK (It didn't cost any extra runs but man it was Julienist (SP?) and I would have left Topa in for another inning. The umpire was so bad for both teams it was ridiculousness! On the good things Julien and Laranch got extra base hits off a lefty, LK doesn't look over matched at the plate and love the stealing (Maybe Rocco is saying to the FO give me some guys that can do it and I will manager that way) The bullpen did a good job, 5 innings 1 run, sure Sands let a couple guys score in the 5th but then don't leave two guys on with no outs. Finish the sweep today and take 2 of 3 from LAA.
