  1. Ben Ross is 24 and repeating AA, and has a lower OPS than last year .620 compare to .626. He is future is minor league filler, he shouldn't be blocking anybody
  2. Trade them to a team that isn't trying for a non prospect that doesn't need to be on the Twins 40 man. If they have no value to those teams what value to do they have for a team trying to win? The problem the Twins seem to have is they pretty much are a team of role players. Role players are need to supplement a team, but the idea you can win consistently with a roster full of them is a fools errand. I get why Miranda, Julien and Keirsay are on the 40 man still is for depth, but depth behind guys that aren't very good generally doesn't seem like a good plan. Having guys in the minors until they are 24, 25 or older is a great way to save money, you never really have to pay them real money, but it also means you have guys that not likely to be full time players. The Twins seem to have Buxton, CC and Jeffers as full time players and then 10 other guys filling in. Maybe Lee can ascend to be one. They had lost 4 and a row and supposedly their 2nd or 3rd best hitter was on the bench. Sure Wallner has been terrible in June but he probably still give you the best chance of running into a bad pitch.
  3. Why not just fast track Culpepper? He is 22 playing in A+ if he stays on the pace of being in the minors, he won't be up for another 2 years, making him just another 24 year old dude (which is fine, but if this the Twins plan you could trade him) Get him to AA let him finish the month there and bring him up, it is not against the rules to bring up 22 year old players. Then trade some of the the dead weight on the 40 man, (Miranda, Julien, Gasper, Fitzgerald, Martin, McCusker) Start pushing these younger guys to be something instead of what they have been doing. I am sick of hearing about how these mid 20 and older guys are going to help the Twins out and be full time major league players. How many times do you have to be fooled before coming to the realization that these type of guys (a high percentage of the time) are just fillers?
  4. I have been saying it since 2019 that he isn't a good manager. To his credit at times it sure seems like he has gotten better, but also falls back into his old way too often. He seems like the kind of coach that will do much better in his second job.
  5. He took a foul ball off the hand, stayed in the game but was pinch hit for the next inning.
  6. Of the open day roster, Pablo is the only injured player. Julien, Miranda, Keirsey, SWR and Dobnak got sent down. Alcala got traded. They got Stewart back and Lewis for a bit. Keaschall and Matthews injuries suck, but in reality Julien, Marnada and SWR not being good is the issue not injuries. (Lets see about Buxton, fingers crossed)
  7. Is it really ageism or the history of baseball and the results? Comparing Sample sizes of a 20 year old and 29 is not apples to apples, You could possibly used Keirsey as an example but doesn't really work.
  8. Willy Mays? you are comparing Gasper to Willy Mays? Hey maybe you were comparing what Mays did in Minneapolis as a 20 year old (.477/.524//799/1.323) and then went on to win the ROY to what Gasper has done in St. Paul. I mean there has to be a 29 year old career minor league player that turned into something to compare him to, no?
  9. But he is not a prospect and never has been one. He will be 30 in October, and has put those numbers you listed up while in his prime in the minors (which is basically what is required to stay in baseball) Gasper is the type of guy teams not even pretending to try play in hopes he does something and they can spin him for a prospect. Legit Major league teams don't play guys like him because there is no real future for him on the team, they would give the spot to their next up coming prospect. Like Boston did with Roman Anthony, or Baltimore tried last year with Holliday. Now in the Twins case they probably will have to play him because literally none of their prospects that they should call can stay healthy. I would rather see Miranda/Julien given one chance just to see if they are worth even protecting this offseason on the 40 (they probably aren't but Gasper isn't either so...)
  10. Man it would be nice to have some 22 or 23 year old healthy prospect to give this opportunity. But I can't find one (Darn Schobels and ERod injuries) It just sucks that other teams seem to have a young healthy guy to bring up and see what they have in them and the Twins prospects all need more time (because they aren't as good) So Gasper it probably is and I wish him well.
  11. His other brother is probably a better comparison, but that might be a stretch as well. Luisangel never played rookie ball in the states, and Ronald just one year, Bryan spent two plus years. Also hasn't shown the speed in terms of stolen bases of either of them. His power at this point looks more like Luisangel. I am rooting for the kid, but it would suck to get the worst of the brothers (we already got that with Nick Gordon) I would love for any of these guys or anybody to force the Twins to fast track them and get to the majors at 21 o 22 instead of this slow stream of mid 20 prospects that maybe/kind of/possibly/maybe not work out.
  12. I don't think this is just a Rocco issue, I think it is an organization thing, plus a league wide thing. The Astros didn't bunt over Myers in the bottom of the 10th and I told my son that was a huge mistake, and it would have been had Castro caught a ball he should have. (after they did manufacturer a run in the 9th with a walk, SB and Sac Fly) It would be interesting if there is a stat that shows in extra innings (Just extra innings of a tie game for the home team) if it is more likely to score the one run you need with 1 out and a guy on third or no outs and a guy at third.
  13. The Twins should absolutely being looks to sell off a couple of their FA's to be, doesn't mean they can't also buy where needed. If Buxton is still healthy, trade Bader for sure; there are options to replace Buxton internally for a couple of months. Same with France,
  14. What happened this morning, was horrible, terrible and every other word imaginable. But Paddack has the nickname sheriff and the rest of it was in reference to a song (I assume), tragic crap happens everyday, if you can't make a clever joke/quip about the damn Twins and a song, which has nothing to do with the events of today then we are done. Mourn today events, and all the events that are happening all over the world, but lighten up when somebody makes a clever comment about something in the entertainment world that may or may not put a smile on somebody's face just for moment. If you didn't like it click the disagree icon or ignore it but don't say it is in poor taste, but other's may think you are in poor taste for conflating the two.
  15. So he is 24 years old, the last 3 plus years in the minors wasn't enough? Sure a little bit more time at AAA is fine, which why I should as soon as possible. The idea that every prospects must spend as much time as possible at each level and then spend another 2 to 3 years being limited in the majors before being let loose is pretty crazy in my mind, but hey it is the Twins way right.
  16. If the Twins think Schobel is an option to replace Castro next year, he should be up as soon as possible to see what he has and start his learning, IMO you can't replace somebody as vital to the Twins as Castro with an unproven rookie. Get him up and give him the time currently given to Clemens.
  17. Clemens might be the best example of why you don't play them more, In June he is 3 for 25 with a .530 OPS, that doesn't include ending May 2/17. That is way you don't play or hope you aren't forced to play guys of this caliber or below more.
  18. I mean he has made 102 starts with a 3.85, 541 K;s in 545 innings, and has more than 4 times the K's than walks. Sure he isn't Skubal or Skenes but really who is. He has been a pretty sold pitcher when given a chance to start for over 4 years. (He career started out better than Festa and Matthews)
  19. Evan if those bench players are worse than the guys playing? Based on ESPN's WAR the only guys worse than Bride are McCusker, Miranda, Julien and Keirsey, the same are Gasper and Fitzgerald. Correct me if I am wrong but all those guys are in the minors. I tend to agree that this team isn't good enough, but playing him doesn't make them better.
  20. IMO, so many things could go wrong with this approach, Number one and probably the most important is could this turn fans off, causing less viewership on TV and stadiums, Before I (and most of my friends that actually go to games) check the starting lineup to see if it worth the price of admission, I am not paying full price to see this approach. Second, are agents going to push teams not to draft or try to force trades away from franchises using the approach, players and their agents always think highly of themselves (as they should) to be more than a bullpen type pitcher. I can see teams doing this to pitchers in the minors that have proven they can't handle the load of a "real" starting pitcher or are often injured, but what about guys that are drafted high and paid handsomely, are they really going to limit there potential? Lastly how is the union going to handle this, are they really going to just let teams slash earning potential of their members without a fight? and this in on top of things @chpettit19 mentioned above, but to his last point I don't see managers changing they way manager the last 2-4 innings, they are still going to use the guys at the end of the game they have the most trust with like they do now. With the current 13 man staff, we can all rank pitchers 1 - 13 (maybe not the exact same, but pretty close) and see how they are used, With this new way you are basically saying all pitchers are repetitively equal and interchangeable, and we know that isn't true. With that said I do like the idea of taking a little older guys with good stuff and seeing if there is a path to helping the major league team out and getting them to the majors.
  21. On the Braves game yesterday, I think they said there was 228 in 2003, and were a bit surprised they brought out Schwellenback out for the 9th after 90 pitches or so.
  22. I started reading the article thinking it was going to be satire. The Twins have little to no outfield depth, The idea of any of the players listed as a step away are anything other than an injury fill in for a week or two is laughable. I mean if Jenkins or ERod could stay healthy, maybe. The Twins are like most every other team, very little major league depth and a bunch of prospects that look good and people will dream about being major league players but most will fail. Other than Jenkins and Keaschall none of these prospects are bringing anything back by themselves and will require at least one if not more other top prospects to be included.
  23. The question was - Has Ty France Had a Successful Year? Based on how he hit in 23 and 24, I think the answer is yes, Based on 20,21,22 the answer is probably no. IMO I would assume he has been pretty happy with how he is doing in pressure situation and probably not as happy in the "non" pressure situations. I would assume he was hoping for a bit better so maybe somebody would give him a multiple year contract next season. If the question was meant to be - was signing Ty France a successful signing for the Twins. To me it is all relative, for the contract the answer is yes, having a first basemen with and OPS+ of 102, maybe not so much, but again at the cost, compared to other first basemen signings, probably yes again. By signing him that took away the option of seeing if Wallner, Larnach, Lewis were/all capable. (The Twins don't seem to think these are real options)
  24. are there any in the top 10 besides Jenkins and Keaschall that wouldn't be willing to trade? Maybe not Erod and Soto, but would a Raya, Winokurt and say Lewis be enough?
