  1. Like all the work you did, and if you even get 30% of those prospects hit, this FO will be winning all sorts of awards.
  2. Matz signed with the Cards for 4/44 with the possibility to earn 48. Seems like the twins could have done that.
  3. To me just trading for just him, seems like the move after signing a couple of others, not the start of the plan. I am usually all for trading prospects, but not for a one year pitcher.
  4. Not sure next year is the year to go after FA pitchers. Chris Bassitt, Matthew Boyd, Carlos Carrasco (club option), Mike Clevinger, Jacob deGrom (opt-out), Zach Eflin, Nathan Eovaldi, Chris Flexen (club option), Kyle Gibson, Sonny Gray (club option), Andrew Heaney, Dallas Keuchel (club option), Sean Manaea, Wade Miley, Mike Minor (club option), Charlie Morton (club option), Joe Musgrove, Aaron Nola (club option), Jake Odorizzi (player option), David Price, Chris Sale (opt-out), Luis Severino (club option), Ross Stripling, Noah Syndergaard, Jameson Taillon, Taijuan Walker (player option)
  5. Just think in 10 years we will be talking about Tampa has to trade their best players before then become free agents, j/k Congrats Kid!
  6. Hopefully you are correct they will jump the prospects inning a large amount this year. I mean why not it isn't like any of those guys are young from a prospects stand point. Winder was coming off 86.1 and 107.2 out of college and then 123.2 (combined in 2018 85/38.2), then 125.2 (his only year with a 100 professional innings), then 0, then 72 last year. and was shut down for shoulder fatigue, if that doesn't scream workload management not sure what else would. For the most part the Twins haven't jumped prospects innings a bunch from year to year. The college guys pitch a few more innings than they did in the college the next, the high school kids go up by 20-30 a year.
  7. Name(2018,2019,2020,2021) Winder - 123.2, 125.2, 0, 72 Sands - 75.1, 97.1, 0, 80.1 Vallimont - 109.1, 127.2, 0, 94 Ober = 75, 78.2, 0, 108.1 I guess I don't see a huge difference with any of them (and not one of them pitched as many innings as Ober last year), I would not expect then to double any of those pitchers innings, Maybe Vallimont could see a jump up to 130-140 innings, but he was also terrible last year in AA. Maybe the Twins think these guys are old enough that they don't have to worry about innings anymore, and I would be fine with that.
  8. Couple of things, all the pitchers listed (minus Enlow) will/should be on the same inning count as Ober was this year, so I don't see any starting in the MLB rotation, they could make the team out of the pen, but that doesn't make sense either if they believe them to be starters in the future. As for service time, if the Twins are worried about that with these guys that seems weird, since the youngest is Miranda and he will be 24 in July, the rest are already 24. (again minus Lewis and Enlow), can't imagine either of them being in Mpls this year.
  9. agreed, they are paying Colome 1.25 to not play, 800K is nothing in the grand scheme of things. The only way it really turns bad for the Twins is if they suck and they keep playing him over a prospect. I don't want Laranch/AK or Celestino being the 4th outfielder, so hopefully the plan is to let the young guys play in the minors and Cave ride the bench until they are ready. Why pay any more than 800K for a guy to ride the bench? Or they know he is still hurt and they are being kind to him knowing insurance will cover most of the 800k? (At least I hope that is what the FO is thinking)
  10. Didn't Winder pitch 85 for VMI in 2018 as well? and Varland pitch 55.1 for Concordia in 2019? and didn't Ober pitch 56 for Charleston in 2017, 75 in 2018 and 78.2 in 2019, then 108 in 2021? I have never heard that pitchers get promoted based on the amount of innings pitched, so I guess that's on me? I thank you for pointed out examples to back my case. SWR pitched 17.1 professional innings in 2018, then 106.2 in 2019, then 53.1 in 2021 and got hurt (You pointed out the obvious that he got hurt, and if players don't get hurt they generally pitch more innings), you don't think the Twins are going to take it slow with him? Most of us were pretty good with taking it slow with Ober, but with a 21 year old prospect they just traded for Berrios they are going to rush his innings count? With jordan balazovic, they went 32 in 2016, 40.1 in 2017, 61.2 in 2018, 93.2 in 2019, and he pitched 97 in 2021 (again he was hurt at the beginning of the year, so we don't really know what the Twins plan for innings was, but Austin Schulfer had the most innings in all of the Twins minor leagues (110) Edit: FYI, I never said he won't be in the majors before 2024, I think there is a good chance he is in MN next year by mid-season or a little later, because he pitched so well at AA and AAA, I was trying to say he won't be a full-time 5-6 inning full season guy until them. (so maybe now you will quit arguing against yourself though me)
  11. In August was terrible, .200,.280, .480, if they could of they probably would have sent him down. But he picked it back up a bit in September, .340,.395, .736 Would I trade Martin for Baddoo, nope, because I think he CAN be better than Baddoo in the future. Would I trade Baddoo for just about any non-pitching prospect in the Twins system, yup.
  12. Which is exactly what I was trying to say, SWR pitched: 106.2 in 2019 0 in 2020 53.1 in 2021, So I can't imagine in the next two years they will let him go over 120, so it would be the third year where he goes over that level. (Maybe I am off by a few and they let him go 130ish in 2023, but it is basically the same thing, he won't be a 5-6 inning starting pitcher for 25 plus starts until 2024) I didn't say that the FO is wrong for doing this, I was just pointing out this seems to be their MO. I was just trying to temper expectations that he was going to be savior for the major league staff in the next two years.
  13. Agreed, at this point aren't we hoping Martin at age 23 does what Baddoo at age 22 did in the majors? With Martin in left/center I love his OBP and hate is SLG, with Martin at SS playing above average defensive, I absolutely love his OBP, and am happy with his SLG. Just to clarify, I am talking about his minor league SLG, not his college SLG. ( I get all the reasons people might say about why that happened, he was young for AA, he started in AA, first year with a wood bat, but won't that all be true next year (minus the first year of a wood bat?) I also just looked and Martin has played a total of 45 games at SS since 2018. Compare that to with Royce Lewis who has played 275 since 2017. I can't image any team throwing a young kid with 45 games at SS under his belt to the wolves, so if the FO thinks he can be a major league SS, I see him starting in AA next year (possibly AAA).
  14. Making crappy assumptions is tired as well, I NEVER mentioned moving prospects along though the system slowing, I was talking about innings pitched, and some of your examples above prove my point. Now maybe you could enlighten us with examples of pitchers they jump large innings? "Twins bring pitchers along it could be another three years to get him to 120+ innings a year."
  15. I will take the Blue Jays side of this deal, I would easily give them back Martin and SWR for Berrios and his contract. I would also take Berrios and his contract over the assumed contract the older guys (Ray and and Gaussman) are going to get. Now if you told me the Twins are going to sign Ray or Gaussman, and their contacts is going to be between 3 - 5 years, that might change my mind. But I am also the type of person that would trade SWR and Martin for a consistent 3+ WAR pitcher. I love SWR as a prospect, but it also worries me a bit he has only pitched 177.1 innings since 2018, and with the way the Twins bring pitchers along it could be another three years to get him to 120+ innings a year.
  16. I am not trading Larnach and Jeffers for one year of Montas, because if they weren't willing to give Berrios a good contract, why would they give a big one to him, because he is going to get paid if he has another year like last year. Then they end up trading him for less than they gave away. I would include either Larnach or Jeffers, plus a decent pitching prospect and a flier on a young athlete. This trade as no chance of happening, if you were the Twins and somebody offered you Arraez, Rooker and Varland what would you be willing to give up? IMO it wouldn't be anything close to a major league pitcher. Rooker is going to be a throw in on any trade not a guy that has any actual value, again IMO A's Get: Arraez 33.3 Rooker 1.7 L. varland .50 = 35.5 Twins Get: Bassitt 17.0 Manaea 18.5 = 35.5
  17. The pirates won, 94,88,98, 78,75,82 games from 2013 though 2018, and won three playoff games in that time. They attempted to 2018 with the archer trade, it back fired badly.
  18. I guess I was trying to say if they had made those in-season trades in the great years, it would be way easier to accept them trading Berrios and possibly Buxton away now. Would it suck, sure, but it would be understandable. But if this team won't sign its stars OR make trades when they are good, well why stick and have loyalty when they obvious don't care. My point was you can't separate the two with the fans, Brook tried that in a thread about being Mediocre, and the comments trended towards how they did in the postseason and regular season.
  19. Has Tampa really been consistently good? They basically have great the last 4 years, then not so good for 4 years, then good to really good for 6, and before that terrible. One of the things that Tampa seems to do, is wheel and deal with their minor league players
  20. You are missing, that as Twins fans we can agree we have to trade away players at times to reload, but when things are going well or unexpected we also expect the Twin to do something to get them over the top (doesn't have to be a championship, has to be an attempt to win the championship). In your examples, you left out that the A's, White Sox and Royals all did this, made in-season trades or signed players to supplement their core players brought along though the minor leagues. You are only telling half the story of those teams.
  21. To be honest I think most twins fans understand this, there are times the Twins are going to have to trade away players to reload, most of us understand we are not the Yanks, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc... The frustration comes from when they are doing really well, they didn't make the in-season trades that the Royals, White Sox and yes the A's have. And the Twins fans were told they didn't make those trades because they were focusing on sustained success.
  22. If they trade Buxton, they should trade Sano, Kepler, Polanco, and Garver, that way they will have gotten rid of everybody from the old front office, and basically everybody from the last 3 playoff runs, and try to win with their guys. Give them next year and 2023 to prove their worth. The great thing (for them) is there will be no expectations on them and very few fans watching the games. On a different note, would you trade the Blue Jays Martin and SWR for Berrios and his contract? I would
  23. I like Glasnow, but trading a 28 year old Buxton for a 28 year old Glasnow , a 29 year old Houser, and a 32 year old Bradley. Doesn't seem like the kind of trade that replenishes the pipeline. IMO if the trade Buxton there better be a possible superstar in the making (even if it doesn't work out.) Trading for guys like Glasnow and Houser, again IMO should be for prospects. I do like that Houser has 3 years of control, not a fan that Glasnow has only 2.
  24. If they trade Buxton, I also believe they should trade Donaldson, but why sign anybody, it isn't like there will be much of anybody watching or caring about if they lose 90,100,110 or 120 games. I mean if you don't actually care about winning at the major league level, why pretend? Wouldn't it best to try the 3 inning pitcher or some other option, when there are no fans to complain about it? My 13 year old son said if they trade Buxton, lets get the MLB network and find another team to cheer for. He said "today him and a few of his baseball friends were talking at school and they were discussing which team was going to be their new favorite" In the past I would have tried to convince him not to, and I just said I kind of like the Padres and Blue Jays, who you thinking?
  25. You keep changing what I said. first you clam I said 3 straight titles, now you claim I said they having done anything. Neither of which I said. Also - The Twins signed Cruz to a one-year, $14.3 million contract that comes with a $12 million club option for 2020. Which is exactly what I said basically a 1 year contract.
