  1. Interesting. That's worth looking at in his next start. I think there's a mental block indeed, but a mechanical issue as you describe may be contributing to it.
  2. “Ninety percent of baseball is mental. The other half is physical.” One need look no further at what Yogi Berra meant than when Pablo Lopez allows a runner on base in a key inning of a game (the first inning tonight). It’s Mr. Hyde becoming Dr. Jekyll in a split second, with no return to the overpowering self. I'm inclined to think this is fixable, and when he gets this under control he will be lethal. The wait is agonizing.
  3. Guardians rained out tonight. Supposing a doubleheader vs Arizona tomorrow.
  4. Only now you're taking the Royals seriously? Their confidence has been evident all season, and their play over the last three weeks has demonstrated they can get over a slump with resilience. To be fair, the same can be said of last year's Twins, and there's sufficient evidence of me here being doubtful about them until Labor Day. The trades the Royals made last off-season to get better are the ones Falvine will need to make in the following one, likely at a less steep price than what Tanner Scott cost last week.
  5. Followed by the inherited runner scoring with Clase on the mound. Maybe...?
  6. D-backs score 2 in the top of the 1st at Cleveland but leave the bases loaded.
  7. The Phillies have lost 13 of 18, just as the Twins did in April. The Yankees lost 24 of 35 before their recent resurgence. The Braves have struggled, due in large part to season-ending injuries for Strider, Acuna and Albies. No team is immune from extended struggle this year. And these Twins, with rookies routinely in the lineup, have not had a four-game losing streak since June 8. We're gonna win, Twins. You're showing us how it's done.
  8. That was laborious -- 390 pitches thrown in total. But it's a sweep nonetheless, and a season-high +14 vs. .500. How ironic that the team flying to Chicago tonight is not the team from Chicago. Three at the Friendly Confines before the big homestand beginning Friday afternoon. Here's hoping that Waveland and Sheffield Avenues are full of Twins home runs this week.
  9. The TD game chat board. Putting the "fun" in funereal.
  10. Looks like Hawk Harrelson knew exactly when to retire from the broadcast booth.
  11. Simone Biles has her self-named signature gymnastic moves. Given the regularity of Mr. Castro's baserunning adventures I figured similar recognition was due.
  12. I take it Willi pulled a Willi on the basepaths...
  13. I looked at attendance trends in 2024 vs 2023 by MLB club. Through last night's games: The Royals rank 1st with a per game attendance increase of 23.2%. The White Sox rank 30th with a per game attendance decline of 18.9%. The Twins rank 18th with a per game decline of 3.0%, though recent games are improving this metric. This change is roughly equal to that of the Brewers and Braves, and better than that of the Mariners, Astros, Cardinals and Mets. And the correlation between on-field success and changes in attendance is unsurprisingly obvious.
  14. There are new heroes for the Twins in every game. Jeffers's and Kepler's home runs and Castro's 13-pitch, 2 RBI single are evidence of this, and so were Martin, Lee and Margot in requiring 21 total pitches for Crochet to get through them in the 3rd inning. That surely contributed to his departure after the 4th, with the bullpen feasting delayed but realized. And Bailey Ober. This is becoming much fun. 34,000 average home attendance since the All-Star break. Royals and Guardians losing tonight. Good things come to those who wait.
  15. Orioles have scored 3 in the 8th and lead Cleveland, 6-2.
  16. I actually hope they stick with Jax to start the 9th so that Duran can remain fresh if needed. There's a big thunderstorm about 50 miles away.
  17. Rain is approaching from the north. Could be a lengthy delay if Duran doesn't finish things.
  18. 34 pitches in the 3rd -- 60 for the game. Good at-bats despite no scoring.
  19. Crochet missed a stitch, and it frayed. Oops. Two Ryans getting hot now would be fantastic.
  20. Last seven starts per the MLB website: Ober: 48.1 IP, 1.86 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, 9 BB, 56 K López: 44 IP, 2.86 ERA, 0.93 WHIP. 10 BB, 55 K If these two stay on a roll like this, October will happen. If either SWR or Ryan gets on a roll like this, October will be delightful.
  21. The Twins have released Josh Staumont. At least he had mostly good performances before the All-Star break.
