  1. How'd that turn out last night...with essentially the same lineup?
  2. Blake Snell might have something to do with it.
  3. I feel the time has come to remind this audience of something very important. Smoking is not allowed in the Metrodome. NOOOOOOOO SMOKING in the Metrodome!!
  4. The Giants' cross-bay rivals (until September) have scored 24 runs in 26 innings against the Phillies in Philadelphia and are about to win the series. I believe the Twins did slightly better against the Athletics. I will measure the magnitude of all complaints today about the Twins against this standard. UPDATE: Make that 29 runs in 27 innings.
  5. I hope you're safe. My understanding is that entering a facility name-sponsored by Oracle requires you to give a current retina scan and genetic map to Larry Ellison.
  6. No Buck, CC4 or Miranda Warning. Vázquez at 3rd. SWR is not great but keeps the team in contention. Santana pauses his slump magnificently. ¿Oye cómo va? Muy bien! And the bullpen does what the bullpen does. Ho hum, ha ha. Assuming a win Sunday, the Twins winning both series this week might be their best achievement prior to the All-Star break, as they find ways to prevail with several key parts missing. They also moved ahead of the Brewers tonight and have the 6th-best record in MLB. Winning ugly. Refusing to lose. Bliss.
  7. Cleveland prevails in St. Pete, 4-2, Looking like we'll need SWR to dominate tonight to stay 4.5 back. I'm hopeful such will happen, not that I'd admit otherwise.
  8. At some point the Twins' batting surge of the past month was going to cool off, and wins would require other strengths. This team is showing resilience in not allowing a bad game to adversely affect the next one -- they've had only one losing streak (3) in the past 30 games. I'm not sure what will come to the rescue tonight, but I have confidence that something will. Winning ugly is still winning. I enjoyed last night's pun-fest here though the game wasn't fun. I need to focus my humorous thinking, evidently, as too many ideas ruin my concentration and I can't even finish a
  9. Getting near the point tonight where the only number of interest is 29. Not yet assured.
  10. Methinks Mr. Ryan is over his yips. Let's get some runs.
  11. Is his grey poop on display tonight?
  12. Cleveland is retired in the 8th at the Trop. Rays lead, 2-0.
  13. Divisional records vs .500 so far this season: AL East +40 NL Central +7 NL East +2 AL Central -2 NL West -14 AL West -33 The AL is +5 against the NL in interleague play. Amazingly close over more than half a season. Twins' remaining schedule: Teams >= .500, 21 H 16 A Teams < .500, 15 H 17 A
  14. Through the first two games in Pittsburgh, the Twins were streaky in the extreme. From that point on they've been considerably steadier, similar to September last season. I think the current modus operandi is sustainable after the All-Star break, provided that they stay healthy. I'm cautiously optimistic that the Twins in current form can get to the ALCS.
  15. I was gung-ho on getting Fedde until I noticed that he's past 30 and his season ERA is nearly two runs lower than his career average. Getting him for the stretch run reminds me of what the FO hoped to get out of Jorge Lopez.
  16. Wasn't this series fun to watch? Not at all, which makes winning two of three quite pleasant. Santana is in a batting slump, but enough key hits happened elsewhere when needed. The starters weren't stellar but did enough to keep the Twins in contention. And other than the 6th inning Monday, the bullpen was lights out. A toast to winning ugly! Hopefully the elegance returns at McCovey's Cove this weekend.
  17. Silver lining: Fedde threw 35 pitches in the first inning.
  18. First-year records as an NFL head coach: Bud Grant, 3-8-3 Bill Walsh, 2-14 Chuck Noll, 1-13 Tom Landry, 0-11-1 They never amounted to anything.
  19. Lewis. Lee. Wallner. Rodriguez. Ryan. Festa. Jenkins. Et cetera. We cheer their successes and lament their struggles. I am delighted, despite protestations otherwise here, that having so many to cheer and lament is the sign of a successful farm system.
  20. Twins rank in all of MLB entering July 9: BATS 3rd in OPS 1st in doubles 5th in HR 5th in BABIP 21st in Ks per game (106 fewer than number pitched) ARMS 2nd in Ks per game 2nd in fewest walks per game 5th in lowest WHIP
