  1. I wanted Gibson up a month ago but another couple starts in AAA isn't going to make or break 2014 for Gibson. This "problem" will take care of itself soon enough and he'll be up.
  2. Not exactly. Major league contract just means he went right on the 40 man. So it would cost options to send to the minors but not service time.
  3. Trade Willingham near the deadline, move Ploufge to LF and then give Romero an audition if he still warrants it.
  4. Reusse confirmed. The long national nightmare is over.
  5. I am somewhat intrigued by the premise of the post, but as the replies have shown there are limited options for a manger to use if the team wants to keep a 12 man staff. It should not be surprising that most pitchers do worse their third (and fourth) time through a batting order. It should also not be surprising that the Twins are among the worst in the league at starter's ERA in this part of the game since they are among the worst ERAs (the worst?) for starters in all of baseball. The best solution is to get better starters.
  6. This 2004 game gets brought up all the time to attempt to prove all sorts of unrelated points. Santana went 5 innings, Balfour went 2, and then Gardy went to Rincon for the 8th. Rincon had been amazing all year. Yes, Gardy could have rode Balfour, but if the Yankees started hitting him and the Twins lost we would be destroying Gardy to this day. Putting your best pitchers in the same positions to succeed that they have been utilized all season should be low on the list of complaints against a manager.
  7. No. They are in the business of winning.
  8. You will probably be right that Buxton will be rated higher, but I also agree that barring injury you are a little tardy in your projections for when they'll first see the majors.
  9. Stating the obvious but more evidence that Cedar Rapids is pretty pleased with this new arrangement. Right move at the right time for both sides.
  10. Law recently did an update with Buxton #2 (behind Taveras of StL) and Sano #6.
  11. I second this.
  12. I would still argue that '09 represented the first year the Twins could start spending based upon expected revenues from Target Field, and that is why the difference in international and draft spending started, though the death of Carl is an interesting aspect. No doubt Jim has been more aggressive.
  13. That's true, but it was a worthwhile risk for the team to take. Hard for a team to acquire talent like that in the back half of the first round without taking a little risk on.
  14. Buxton will be the #1 prospect in baseball at the end of the season.
  15. I don't think this guarantees anything. The guy who flipped is not necessarily the most trustworthy source. It will be interesting to see how the union responds. I think they will be a lot less sympathetic to the busted players than those players might hope.
  16. Ended at 7 ip, 3 h, 1 r, 2 bb, 7 k. If he can keep this up in AA he is legit. Either way, not bad for a 10th rounder last year. Gibson with 6 ip, 7 h, 2 r, 1 bb, 4 k.
  17. Major League Baseball might suspend 20 players, including Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun as part of Miami investigation - ESPN I'm thinking this might now have some legs. Over 20 players could get popped.
  18. He signed for slot right?
  19. I can't imagine someone criticizing a draft pick or draft record out of hindsight.
  20. You honestly believe this or is this a bit?
  21. I don't think anyone had doubts on his ability to hit AA pitching. Good for him though, hopefully he can run with his new opportunity.
  22. Level and MLB readiness play a huge factor in prospect rankings. Which should help provide some insight into just how big a monster Buxton potentially is that he is in Low A and is ranked #2 overall.

    Wedge

He kind of stepped in it with his sabermetric comments after Ackley was demoted, but I think he did a pretty good job clarifying here: Wedge discusses his sabermetric remarks | Mariners blog | Seattle Times Lots of good stuff, and definitely close to the way I look at hitting and using sabermetrics.
  24. Wouldn't WPA need to be negative to decrease the chance of a victory? Just means his cycle happened in low leverage at bats, or his out(s) was early in the game when it would be more negative.
  25. The handling of Gomez is probably one the top five blunders of the Smith administration - and there are many contenders. The worst part is that much of it was likely pr driven. A true recipe for disaster.
