  1. I would add Bard and Chargois, but I have a feeling Chargois won't pitch 20 more innings in the Twins org.
  2. I don't remember this conversation but I'm pretty sure we could make 7-8 spots with very little trouble. Also it is a small point but you use the 60 day DL at the same time as adding to the 40 man.
  3. I'm curious what rhetoric from Ryan you are referring to?
  4. The counter is that Gibson has been inconsistent. The counter to that is that given the state of the Twins staff, who cares? Definitely worth an opportunity to see if he can give the staff a shot in the arm.
  5. For me I want about 90% of tweets to be about baseball, the Twins, or interaction with fans/questions. Less than that and I generally won't follow. Seth, I appreciate the work you do but the extraneous stuff you had on twitter made me stop following. I imagine I am in the small minority.
  6. I would respectfully disagree. Broad, balanced points are whittled down to specific points - in this particular point the disagreement is on the downside risk of long term pitching contracts. Few (if any) would argue signing a pitcher like this would result in anything other than extra wins in the short term. It isn't mentioned because I see it as understood.
  7. Why do different risk preferences and calculations amaze you? Using "fear" shows significant misunderstanding.
  8. You can also get paid if your theory matches the desires of those requesting it. This is true whether or not the theory actually means anything in reality.
  9. Right now is the best collection of writers the Twins have ever had. I'm still a Reusse guy first but there is great diversity over. Berardino is my go to beat guy. On a side note, if you aren't following all of them on Twitter you are really missing out.
  10. This is for a couple of reasons. Twins are patient and allow proper development. They don't get "cheap" high ranked prospects via age/level inflation (who bust at a higher rate). They don't overly hype their own guys. Their top ranked prospects are generally legit.
  11. They don't ignore it, they just signed two free agents this offseason.
  12. I would accept this list with some slight modifications. On point 1 I would emphasize a bad run instead of sucking. The front office has developed talent before and probably will again. On point 2 I would cut out "for some reason". It adds nothing to the point and I personally think there are several good reasons why they didn't spend this offseason.
  13. +1. I would add a couple thoughts. 1. Contract rank might not be the best indicator of talent as this will vary based upon age of pitcher or certain intangibles (ie desire to play for contender or certain geographic location). Perhaps the rankings of MLBTR? 2. Despite Seth's comments, I would think of FA as a relative crapshoot. Few, if any, would argue that Greinke was #1, Sanchez #2, and Dempster #3 last offseason. The crapshoot starts in the next tier and I would imagine if you knock out the clear top performers that the correlation would be that much smaller.
  14. He was non-tendered and became a free agent. Doesn't change the fact he was mediocre in AAA last year and has already been hurt this year. Just because the Twins signed two less than ideal options doesn't mean this guy was the answer.
  15. I agree but not until July.
  16. I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with the MSM. And this is not exactly a new phenomenon. The majority of the population has been stupid (and ill-informed) since the founding of the country, why would we expect anything different now? On your other point: left-wingers are indeed leading the charge for the AP situation because it involved the media directly, but it really won't last. My hope, as I said before, is that it leads to some awareness of and reining in of the power of the executive, but I'm not holding my breath. We have a never-ending war to fight!
  17. Video of the walk off slam by Buxton. Apparently it went 450 feet off a 98 mph pitch.
  18. I didn't expect greatness from Worley but I did expect him to be a decent back of the rotation type guy along with Diamond. I still have hope for him but a trip to minors might not be the worst thing, to get straightened out and/or healthy.
  19. One of the shames of the new collective bargaining agreement is that they can't use the extra cash they have for either overslot drafts or extra spending on the international front. That would make a (temporary - hopefully) decrease in payroll more palatable. As I have said previously I don't have a problem with the payroll being at the level it currently is for the current season, but I do want to acknowledge that I understand the other point of view and do realize it has an impact on how many fans will view the team. There is truth that a business needs to spend and invest money to make money.
  20. True, but I was thinking more on the lines of a senior sign and the impact that can have on other signings.
  21. Not sure there is really a place for him at the moment, but have to think he will be up if there is an injury or later in the year if they make a trade.
  22. I'll save you the time and energy - not a whole lot is at the bottom of these scandals. They will consume some oxygen for the next couple of weeks because the Washington press is bored, and then they will move on to something else as equally mundane. For a couple of months after that some right wingers will keep hammering at them, gain no traction, and then blame the MSM for not covering them closely enough.
  23. The old "people aren't outraged because the MSM won't cover it" angle. I approve. I can only imagine how disappointed you must be with an institution you put so much trust in and admire like the MSM letting you and the whole country down.
  24. I am very interested to hear what you think was "really" going on in Benghazi.
  25. This will hardly be the first generation without a strong male presence nor the first children of gay couples. I guarantee on balance children of gay couples will be better off than single parents.
