  1. Good post. Thanks for sharing.
  2. As disastrous as the Twins decision was I'm still stunned that no other team jumped in for more. Twins were on the hook for about $2.5 mil in arbitration. They non-tendered and he got $1.25 mil. Do in a sense the Twins did value Ortiz properly at the time.
  3. I also think the idea there are two "camps" here is extremely simplistic. There are certain issues/topics that split people in all sorts of ways. Part of what makes the discussion interesting. On a personal note the only thing I don't think understand is the constant negativity and misery coming from handful of posters (not mike and levi). I understand being upset and critical of moves by the team but I don't understand the misery - it is merely baseball afterall.
  4. Perhaps we can acknowledge most people here are relatively open minded we just don't agree on several things and probably won't - though discussion can be fun and interesting. The original statement by mike made me chuckle coming from him. And I thought your hilarious example deserved a response in kind.
  5. Kind of like if Ryan cured cancer there would be people bitching that he also didn't cure heart disease. If you and Mike are truly offended by this behavior perhaps you could start by modeling change yourselves.
  6. Yes both but I generally give most credit good or bad to the players for their performance. The front office deserves a lot of blame for dumping these guys too early.
  7. I love posts like this. If the player struggles it is the Twins fault but if he does well they had nothing to do with it.
  8. Hardy was demoted to AAA the season before the Twins got him. Maybe the Twins turned his career around (before foolishly dumping him for nothing).
  9. I don't really buy this. Ortiz took off in Boston as soon as he did what the Twins wanted him to do. And does anyone remember watching Gomez as a Twin and think that he didn't swing hard enough?
  10. So if they lose it is a true reflection of talent and if they win it is false hope? Yes they should do better against bad teams but they also just got beat up by 3 of 4-5 best teams in baseball. It evens out.
  11. Luckily free agency hasn't changed in 25the years so I can see how this comparison is even somewhat relevant.
  12. Since Gausman and Buxton are better than anyone in this draft, not signing someone last year would have been a true fiasco. Even Kevin Appel!
  13. Worley has 0 swing and misses on around 50 curveballs this year. That tells me is stuff is not as sharp and my initial thought goes back to the offseason surgery (and that he is probably a little out of shape). Brooks I have no idea what great analysis you provided on Worley earlier in the thread, but I generally saw him as a back of the rotation starter along with Diamond. That and a prospect is about what you should expect for Revere.
  14. I imagine you can appreciate the difference between a 23 year old college pitcher who hasn't really been challenged and 20 year old position player who still can clean a few things up, as great as Sano has been so far.
  15. I think you are getting too cute here. If the Twins want Stewart they will pay him more or less slot and he will sign.
  16. I never said he couldn't say something else. I'm just saying no matter what he said he was going to get crushed.
  17. True. After back to back 90+ loss seasons I think the players knew they were facing an uphill climb.
  18. I would go more with "meh" than approve. For whatever reason Benson wasn't getting it done and wasn't going to make it. Change of scenery was coming one way or another. This reaction is a slightly more intense version of the weeping and gnashing of teeth following the release of Burnett. Over/under on how many additional times Benson is DFAed this year?
  19. I think there was little else Ryan could say in the offseason and if you literally believed him you are not especially savvy. This is another situation where Ryan would get crushed no matter what he said. He is getting crushed for saying what he actually said and he would have been crushed if he tried to sell a rebuild in a publically funded stadium that has eleventy billion dollars a year in revenue.
  20. I don't think they have given up on him. He does lack an out pitch and is currently hurt. That is probably holding him back. I think his future is as a multi inning reliever. His stuff can play up and doesn't need to turn over a lineup three times.
  21. I for one bow down to Mr. Brooks
  22. I think this has always been the case. They might have hoped for a miracle but I can't believe Ryan has any realistic notion they were going to compete (and he shouldn't have had one, this was a rebuilding year). That said - Gibson should still have been called up.
  23. I would agree he should have been the call up right now. I don't agree with any part of your premise that he was mishandled or the Twins bungled up until about a week ago. Calling him up a month late because of financial reasons is many things, but I wouldn't call it slow playing. And I would like to see documentation that he was complaining of arm trouble all year before his surgery. I don't remember that at all.
  24. I agree. There is a good study to be done on this topic. This article is not it.
  25. I don't think this writer is the least bit objective.
